Lisinopril Atypical, Medication, Tried Diet, Term Basis, Hbp
Posted over a year ago
I have been reading all the comments and I can't help wondering if I am atypical, but I have not had any of these side effects. In fact the only thing that Lisinopril has done for me is to lower my bp. I was 130 over 90 and now 116 over 78, so it sure works for me!
Guest0222 - If it is working for you then that is great!
Be aware though that the side effects can happen at any time (even after years of success with this med), and especially after a change in dosage (either up or down!!).
If you're doctor says you need to go up in dosage be very very wary beacuse that could be a sign that either your borderline hbp is simply getting worse (what the doctors will probably say), that the medication is loosing its effectiveness (what the doctors may say), or that it has begun to giving you grief: many report higher bp on this med (probably due to the havoc it wreeks on the body over time).
It seems like 130/90 is not that high. I wonder if you've tried diet and exercise and some weight loss already, along with a maybe bit more potassium and magnesium in your diet. If you've already tried that well then that's that. But if not you could probably drop 5 pts and 125/85 is quite reasonable for unmedicated bp.
I'm not a doctor but it seems to me that taking medication on a long term basis incurs so many more risks than bp of merely 125/85.
Camberwell - Oh, it worked for me re: reducing blood pressure, too low at time, in the double digits top and bottom ie 85/65 and possibly lower. it was all the other stuff that didn't work for me!! I was absolutely fine when I first started taking it, but I guess as it built up in my system is when all the other unpleasant stuff happened.
Bgaarsoe - You are probably not atypical if you do not have any side effects from Lisinopril. I just think that people who are having problems with it are more inclined to talk about it and compare notes with other people.
I have been taking Lisinopril for about two years, and in terms of side effects, it has been like taking a sugar pill. That is, I have not had a single adverse effect of any kind, and it has taken my bp from 160/107 down below 120/80, and so far, I have not had to increase my dosage from the inital 10mg the doctor prescribed.
Collie - I agree with bgaarsoe... many (most?) people who go to medications.com do so because they are having problems.
While I do not have any hard proof, it does seem to be a common occurance that many people must 'try out' multiple BP meds before finding one that presents little side effects. Perhaps that is one of the reasons there are so many different BP meds.
If Lisinopril works for you, that's great... just be aware that you may experience side effects in the future (as can happen with any med).
Good luck!
