DISASTER
Nowfaithbeejay - Please contact me regarding this medication Lisinopril HCTZ. I have just had a very scary experience this week and landed in the emergency room with rapid heart rate, malfunctioning kidney, post nasal drip, dizziness, forgetfulness etc. Contact me at jaylayes@comcast.net
Thanks
Marks2009 - My mom is still in the hospital and the family believes it is because of Lisinop. She had kidney failure, rapid heart rate, and most side effects listed by others.
Lindab1 - My husband is a 62 year old veteran who up until 8 years ago for a minor shoulder injury was hospitalized {outpatient}for the first time in his life. The dr's at that time couldn't believe how healthy he was.
About 4 years ago , he was diagnosed by a VA dr. that his blood pressure was high. For 18 months he was on Lisinipril and during that time he had started with this cough that would make him want to throw up. He was in an environment that made him think it was just allergies but it grew worse.
About 2 years ago his Mom saw an article in the paper that a woman wrote with the same health issues as him so he called the dr and told them he would be stopping this medication. They told him yes, a persistant cough is one of the side effects. By that time after only taking it for 18 months starting at 10 MG , the dr. had doubled the dose to 20.
He is after the past 2 years suffering with an irregular heartbeat and the worst part is his breathing, which is so very labored when he does anything at all he practically passes out. He loves to golf but has passed out just walking to the club house. He wheezes constantly now and has been on umpteen different antibiotics .
He has 2 weeks ago just finished another 45 days on antibiotics and is going to have to start them again because at this point he can't live like this, {sick} he says. He would rather take the antibiotics to live and hopefully breath and feel better again than to not.
After reading this blog { I can't believe I didnt search for this before this} I hope no one ever takes this medication again for any reason. It is simply not worth the risks.
My husband is now on 6 different medications due to the slow deterioration of his system.
This all started with the Lisinipril.
We would be happy to be a part of this class action lawsuit and will gladly send you any information to help. He has been strictly under VA care and is trying to get on disabilty to overcome the fact that he cannot work at this point.
Thanks Linda B & Mike
Pampam - I have been on this med for 2 months now and I have a steady nose drip dry cough sweating and sooooo tired. I can not keep my eyes open from the time I get up till I go to sleep every couple hours all during the day. I am a night owl and I go on and off sleeping as the family watches tv at night. I thought it was this med that is all I am on. Something needs to be done to get rid of this med.
Smithjodi44 - Lisinopril is an ACE inhibitor and it is a very good drug for those people who are able to tolerate it. It lowers your risk of heart disease and renal failure and increases your energy levels, however, the cough, allergy like symptoms and angioedema (severe swelling to the face, causing shortness of breath) are bad side effects of the medication. If your physician did not tell you this it was on the insert that you received from the pharmacy. As patients we need to inform ourselves of what is going into our bodies and learn to ask questions. For the millions of people this drug has helped it would be a shame for the hundreds that have had side effects due to lack of knowledge to have it removed from the market because you did not take the time to inform yourself and ask the right questions. I have taken Lisinopril and I have the chronic cough, I knew about the possibility of it and wanted to at least try it because it is such a good medication for blood pressure. There is another class of drug known as the ACE Receptor Blockers that give you the same benefits without some of the side effects including the cough. I hope that this has helped someone.
Dlf2250 - I have had many side effects from this drug....I definitely want to pursue a class action suit. Let me know how I can help.
Thanks,
Debra
Danny144 - I am so thankful for this site, I thought I had a disease. Every symptom I have has been listed by everyone here. Although upset because Lisinopril is the culprit I am so relieved I know what is wrong. I made an appt with my dr tonight so I can get off it. I am 33 yrs old on 40 mg for 18 months. It has completely destroyed my sex drive, I have a dry nagging cough every night which ruins sleeping with my wife. I cough many times till I vomit and am red in the face. My bp may be lower but I am in a living hell.
Clrf616 - I have been taking Lisinopril since November of 2008. Immediately I noticed a slight cough which could be controlled with Robitussin and I did not associate it with the Lisinopril at that time. Sweating was also a big side afffect for me along with insomnia and fatigue. In June of 2010 I went on vacation, 2 days before I left I started to get a more persistent cough. It got worse while we were gone. Upon returning I saw my doctor who prescribed an antibiotic and cough medicine. It was still not going away, another round of antibiotics, steriods, inhalers, different cough medication, 3 different allergy medicines. Nothing helped. 2 weeks ago I asked my doctor if it could be related to the lisinopril, she said I had been on it too long for it it affect that way. I reminded her of the slight cough I have had for a long time. She said that the bronchitis I had exacerbated the effects of the lisinopril. I quit taking the lisinopril 2 weeks ago, she switched me to hyzaar. My cough initially got worse, making me think it might not be the lisinopril. I would cough so hard I couldn't catch my breath, could not sleep any longer than an hour at a time. I am now taking Chertussin and it is helping to relieve the secretions in my lungs from the lisinopril. 2 nights ago I finally slept for 3 straight hours. I almost lost my job because the coughing was so bad and I work for a doctor and the patients were complaining because they thought I was contagious. My quality of life went straight down hill not wanting to go any where because the couging fits were embarrassing. I definitely think there should be some action taken. CLRF616
Anderson1 - Please call or email me (p) 757.746.3318 email tiffanyanderson442@gmail.com in regards to this law suit. I have already spoke with a lawyer who has stated they would be willing to pay a portion of the cost for the suit if we had enough people. Please contact me anytime to discuss.
Wakesmith - My wife took Lisinopril for blood pressure and it caused her to cough so hard it tore here diaphragm causing a Hiatal Hernia. She tried to get the doctor to listen to her but to know avail. She finally when to another Doc who see Lisinopril said this is your problem and stopped the medication but that did not correct the Hiatal Hernia which she still deals with.
