My mother who took Lisinopril for years with no problem was increased from 5mg to 20 mg over night and given the combo drug with the diuretic. Within days she started to fail, became confused and weak and depressed - started to cry about everything. She developed rashes. When my sister brought her back the doctor took a urine test (assuming she had elderly bladder infection syndrome) and even though she had protein in her urine (indicating renal problems related to her hypertension) they kept her on the drug and added an antibiotic (for the rash!), and cortisone cream, and within days she started to hallucinate and become totally mad. Two weeks earlier she had been a happy old lady, reading a book a week and cheerful and full of gossip. Now she was a drooling and slumped silent lady who repeated words and was half out of her mind. They have not tested the drug on people over 65 years of age. So I guess after living a successful and happy life for 88 years they decided my mother should be a guinea pig. Our medical system if bought by the pharmos and is much sicker than the patients!
