Yasmin I am 16 years old and started Ocella in June 2009. At first, everything seemed fine except for the fact that I had really bad nausea for the first month on the pill. As the summer progressed, I noticed a lot of change in my body. I've always been super active and have been riding horses since I was 4. But whenever I rode over the summer, I would start feeling very faint or sick and I would have to stop. Soon I started getting dizzy just from standing up. Like I said, I'm 16 and have always been very healthy so this was unusual. I also began waking up in the middle of the night every night with very severe pains in my calves. It was the worst pain I have ever felt and I would wake up screaming bloody murder. At first my family and I thought it was just from pulling my muscles while jumping my horses, but the pain only happened in bed in the middle of the night and wasn't evident during the day. I finally decided to go to the doctor when I would randomly start to black out simply from walking or getting up. It had also gotten so bad that I could barely drive anymore because every time I did I felt like the world was spinning and I couldn't focus on anything. I went to the doctor complaining of the pain in my legs, the head troubles I'd been experiencing, and other strange side effects such as heart palpitations and profuse shaking. As soon as I told my doctor my symptoms, she said that she was taking me off the pill right away because it had done extreme damage to my brain tissue, heart and leg muscles, and had caused liver and kidney damage. I was especially shocked when she told me that, had I ignored the side effects, the pill would have probably ended up killing me within a month. Getting off of Ocella was no cake walk either. I got off in September or October and I am still experiencing horrible side effects. Although the have lessened significantly, I still experience random "episodes" including bad nose bleeds (I've never had nose bleeds before), dizziness, nausea, uncontrollable shaking and sweating, and passing out. Thankfully, my menstrual cycle is probably more normal than it was when I was on Ocella and my body's hormones are starting to equalize themselves out again. I'm told that these side effects will be gone for good by April. I urge everybody to stand up against Yaz, Yasmin, and Ocella, no matter how old you are. Good luck!
