I have been on Atenolol (25g) for many years ( over 10) with very good results. Recently my doctor changed my prescription to Metoprolol (12.5g) ( I cut a 25g pill in half ).
What would be a reason for changing from Atenolol to Metoprolol ?
I intend to ask my doctor again but am interested in all responses. Thanks
Ikung - My husband was switched my his doctor from 25 mg/day of Atenolol to 25 mg/day of Metoprolol succinate. Within a week to 10 days his blood pressure went sky high and even started to feel pain in his upper back (akin to what he felt before his heart problems 12 years ago). He had been on Atenolol (different dosages) for 12 years. It seemed to be a very bad mistake to switch. Besides, we just did a research online and found out that there is an FDA letter that says that some Metoprolol (generics) do not have the desired effects.
