I am 5 days post removal and need reassurance. Unlike everyone else, I have NOT felt better right away. I am just as tired (if not more), more irritable, and JUST GOT ACNE on my face and arms 2 days AFTER removal! I'm still dizzy and the brain fog is just as bad. Have not bled a drop at all.
I know everyone is different, but my removal experience has been completely different... don't feel better, no bleeding/clots, no immediate improvement. IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH ME??? Was it not the Mirena after all???

I had my Mirena removed yesterday after having it in for just over 5 years
Today I have felt dizzy, had to sit down and close my eyes as the room was spinning, feel quite down too ( rather emotional) haven't had much bleeding though

i had my mirena removed about 10 weeks ago now and the improvement didn't come straight away. it fades gradually, i was still very dizzy and in a fog for about a month i think, it took about a week to bleed and it wasn't much. i had a period 3 weeks later and thet only lasted about 4 days. then 5 weeks after that i had aperiod which was very heavy. i have had bad skin since i had mine removed, but i think its the change in hormones thats done it. my joint pains have improved slowly week by week and my mood has improved week by week. the only other thing i would say is my pms just before my period is worse than before i was on mirena, the dizziness comes back for a few days and subsides after the period starts. i hop e this helps you. feel free to contact me if you want to.
Helen4692 - hello again. i just noticed in one of your posts you mentioned tingling in your head? i've had this too, it feels like a tingling all over my head/scalp sometimes accompanied by a tension headache sometimes not. its only happened after i had my mirena out though and no tingles elsewhere. did they say what yours was?
Calybo - Just read your post so sorry to hear what you're going through. I don't want to discourage you but.... it has been 9 months since I had mine removed and have just started feeling "normal". Although the weight gain is still an issue. My symptoms didn't totally disappear after removal but they started getting better. It was the anxiety type symptoms that continued for me. I finally went to get accupuncture because all the conventional doctors could not figure out what was up and were trying to put me on anti-anxiety meds.
that is when things really started to turn around for me. I also went to a holistic health clinic where they actually tested my hormone levels and found that my progesterone levels were extremely low. They believe that the synthetic hormones in the mirena caused my body to not produce what it should on it's own(Hormone imbalance). It has been a long hall, believe me. I wish I had been a little more aggressive in dealing with my health problems right after removal. I thought that just removing it would be the cure, but I needed help to get to where I am now. I remember when I posted back in October '08 that I got a reply back from a woman who said she could have written everything I had word for word about her experience with Mirena and she said that she was 11 months post removal and was just feeling 95% better. It was kind of discouraging at the time but it has comforted me these last 6 months or so knowing that the road to well- being was longer for someone else as well. Keep your chin up. And if you continue to not feel quite right, be aggressive about seeking help. And seek outside the conventional medical circles. Best of Luck!!!!
Redshrimp - Had my mirena removed last Wednesday, hoping every day I will wake up and the dizzy/brain fog will be gone (but it isn't) My mood has gotten a drop better (I mean a drop) Waiting just like you to actually show signs of improvement. Plus mega mega heavy period and long duration to boot.
Icegal8 - I'm in the same boat here...had two rounds of depo with no periods prior to mirena inserted in dec 2008...my body expelled the thing in april and I am just now getting my periond...still tired and for sure not back to myself again...
Mikki1976 - I had my Mirena for almost 4 years. Not too many problems....biggest complaint was no sex drive which is why I decided to have it removed in January. At first everything was about the same. Then in March, I had problems with all my joints aching. I ended up going to the doctor and had blood work done for Rheumatoid Arthritis and Lupus (came back good). Since then I have had several issues: lump in throat, dizziness,nausea, headaches, anxiety, trouble sleeping (feel like I dream all night), a few hot flashes, frequent urination. The thing that scares me most is that I am having a burning feeling on my scalp (usually around the crown of my head). I think that everyone must thing I am crazy. I'm 33 years old and I have always been healthy. To have so many weird issues is out of character for me. I have no idea if this is normal or if there is something seriously wrong with me because I do not have a doctor that really cares. I hate that everyone is having so many problems, but it makes me feel a little better that I'm not alone.
