My husband had a bad reaction, we are assuming was associated with Niaspan. He has been taking Niaspan for 5 months and has had no serious reactions. After eating shrimp earlier and then taking his medication before bedtime, he was awakened with a beet red body and face, his face and hands were swollen and his whole body itched, his lips and tongue were numb. The redness went away with an antihistamine tablet, but it took another 12 hours and another antihistamine for his hands to stop swelling and for his lips to regain feeling. Does shellfish cause a more adverse reaction? Or was it just a reaction to shellfish and not the Niaspan?
