My 8yr old daughter was put on nitrofurantoin for UTI while waiting for vesicoureteral reflux surgery in June. She was on nitrofurantoin for just over a month when her leg went numb. One week later the other leg went numb. Both are numb almost to the hip. Now one foot gives pain if she tries to put weight on it and straighten out her foot. Every doctor (including Johns Hopkins neurologists) are so quick to say it couldn't be a reaction to nitrofurantoin. I question it even more now as I know doctors tend to like sticking with their "favorite" medicines to prescribe. But meanwhile my daughter can hardly walk with crutches. What do do? Can the neuropathy be reversed? So far the only thing that brought back any feeling (she can slightly feel tickling on the bottoms of her feet) was acupuncture.
