I was on nuva ring for many years. It was great at first. Helped with my migraines, didn't make me super hormonal, evened out my periods, (sometimes they would only last 4 days and on time), and didn't have a problem with terrible weight gain.
I was starting to have some sexual side effects though. I started "drying" up down there and it hurt for my husband to enter me. No matter how much lube we used and how slow we took it. It was like my muscles were not allowing him to enter. It hurt for the use of a vibrator to enter me as well, or even to put in a tampon. I started experiencing "lag" (for lack of a better term)when orgasming. Where I would be able to achieve orgasm within a few minutes and more than once during sex, became a chore. 20, 30 , 40 minutes to get off once, and they weren't as intense as my prior orgasms. It finally came down to sex being painful and not being able to orgasm at all. It was like my clitoris just stopped working. I couldn't even masturbate. I felt broken. I felt horrid and frustrated.
I went to my doctor and demanded to be taken off of the nuva ring. It was my savior for many years, but it was making my life hell. Now I have been off if it since march. I can have sex without issue. My "button" works again, and sex is not painful. I just wanted you ladies to know that it does get better. I started feeling better and being able to achieve orgasm a few weeks after quitting nuva. Best decision I've ever made. I feel whole again.
