I've been on prednisone for nearly 3 years continuously for Ulcerative Colitis. I've been on 60 mgs for quite a while but I am now down to 4 mgs. Once I went below 10 mgs. I started experiencing severe itching on my entire scalp and then upper back, ears and collar bone. I went to a dermatologist but she can't see any reason for the itching. Has anyone else had this side effect while tapering? It's making me crazy!
Kelcat - Have started on "the damn drug" 5mg, back in Feb. for Polymyalgia Rheumatica. Weight gain --look like I am 5-6 mos. pregnant--bitchiness-- some itchiness--later on mild depression but have finally tapered off 4 days ago. Last night I woke up in the middle of the night with severe itching. Finally got up & took an antihistamine. I hope it will be out of my system soon & life willl be more normal.
Andrews640 - My 10 year old daughter is going through this now..she has suffered almost every side effect out there when it comes to prednisone..she suffers from ulcerative colitis..she just tapered down to 5mg and developed intense itching and reddened patches all over her scalp, and behind her ears..nothing as of yet on the collarbone..but she said her head itches like crazy..I ended up giving her some benadryl to ease a bit if the itching and I also put baby powder onto her scalp...thank you for ur post..if it weren't for all of us out there making these comments I would never have known the wiser..:) good luck to you and your health..:))
