13 yr old on yasmin
does anyone know when the side effects from this pill subside. my daughter was given this because she was bleeding all the time. a frien who is an ob gave this to her. her symptoms have included tiredness, heart palipitations, extreme exhaustion, fatigue, out of breath, hot flashes, back pain. earlier in the year she had mono and that is when we stopped giving her the pill. That was way before i stumbled upon this web site. she has not had this since march. She was on the yasmin for about 8 months. she is still having these symptoms so much so that we had her tonsils removed a couple of weeks ago. does this y mess with your immune system as well. that would maby explain why she just cant seem to get well.
In my experience, Ortho TriCyclen is a much better pill. I will be going back to it this month. I have PMDD which is why I take Yaz. With Yaz, I have 3-day periods with almost no pain but a plethora of other side effects throughout the month including migraines everyday. With Ortho, my period lasts about 5-days, is a little heavier, and a little more painful, but it's worth it to get away from these side-effects (which it sounds like your daughter is suffering heavily from as well).
When it comes to your daughter, mono messes with your immune system. A friend of mine had it when we were in jr. high and it took about a year for her to get completely back to normal. She is probably still getting the Yasmin out of her system as well, and because of the mono it may take longer than normal. (Please note, I am not a doctor.) I have, however, had experience with discontinuing birth control pills and I know that sometimes it can take upwards of a year to get them out of your system.
I really hope your daughter feels better soon. 13 is very young to have to deal with mono and BC side effects.
I hate this for your daughter,GODbless you both.I would give her a good vitamin, lots of rest and give her body time to get over the yasmin.

Please do not give your daughter this pill.
This is a combination BC pill. It contains a low dosage of estradial, and a form of progesterone, called Drospirinone.
(Added to this pill to alleviate fluid retention during menstruation, and as a way to combat any unwanted hair growth, facial, etc.)
The Drospirinone is a diuretic which can disrupt the water/ electrolyte balance in her body, thus, leading to dehydration, and heart complications if not properly monitored.
(Fortunately, potassium is spared/held on to with this drug, an electrolyte that is vital to the beating rhythm of the heart.
If this is depleted, an irregular hearbeat, fatigue, dizziness(Vertigo), can occur.
It is also an anti-androgenic drug, which means that it diminishes the effects of testosterone.
Yes, testosterone is a male hormone, but women have it too.
(Also, testosterone is ultimately converted to estrogen.)
I strongly feel that any disruption in a developing girl's hormonal status is dangerous. Such ramifications may not present themselves for years.
Please have your daughter's thyorid levels checked, as heavy bleeding during menstruation is sometimes indicative of an overactive thyoid.
Weight loss, palpitations, fatigue, depression, skin, and hair---all indicators.)
(A low TSH may signal hyperthyroidism/Graves Disease.)
I am not a DR, but I have been raised within a family of physicians and nurses.
I have also suffered with menstrual irregularities, thryoid issues, and a history of anorexia since the age of 13. (I am 35 now.)
I hope that this was helpful, and not too complex!
Good Luck,
Ava
I am 16 years old and I am stopping this pill immediatly. I have passed out in school and I keep having panic attacts and shaking that I can't stop because of it. I stopped talking it yesterday and hopefully it will get better- but I was coming down with the stomach flu because of it and had to go to the ER because of being sick. I was going though almost the same thing as she is. I started taking it beause of irregular periods for the past 4 years but I wasn't allowed to start taking it until i turned 16. I'm not sure why that is the case, but I suggest being careful with her being so young on the pill. My doctor was very serious about waiting and I couldn't get an appointment with a gyn until i was 16 also. I hope she feels better and knows that it's happenend to me also!
