Aldactone, Birth control, and Constipation

Posted at 11:10 AM on Aug 01, 2008 by fugitive928, #6981
I had a quick questions about Spironolactone. I'm currently 20 years old and breaking out in mild acne. I was on birth control prior and realized that I'm incredibly sensitive to it and can no longer take it. During the time I was on the pill I developed terrible constipation and bloating. I tried Yasmin for a week and I had the same side effects and decided it wasn't worth it. I've been reading about spironolactone and I was wondering if anyone had any issues like these while taking it. i feel like spironolactone is my last hope.

Well, this answer is coming a bit late I guess, since you asked back in August. But just in case anyone else wanted some advice, I take spironolactone combined with yaz, birth control. I have seen amazing results. I started out on an antibiotic to help the infection but that kept causing yeast infections, and just wasn't really helping with the oiliness of my skin. Since I started taking spironolactone my acne has completely cleared and my skin feels great, not too dry or too oily. I have experienced a little bit of constipation and dizziness though, which are listed as side effects. Overall I really like this medication and am completely satisfied with it.
