Aldara Itching

I am using Aldara and am curious as to whether the excessive itching that occurs is common. I put the cream on before I go to bed and twice now I have been waken from my sleep because the itching is so bad.
Even the next day after I shower, the itching remains (although not as extreme) until the middle of the day.
