allergic reactions

Posted at 11:14 PM on May 18, 2008 by raca579, #6071
I am allergic to penicillin. But I've had allergic reactions to a few different substitutes of this medicine before. Well now I was on Doxycycline Hyclate for 1 week and started noticing I was nauseous, and starting getting these little water blisters around my mouth, chest, neck, and back. I took benadryl last night and they haven't gone away yet! I also am very tired. What could I do to get rid of this? Its an awful feeling. I am contacting my doctor tomorrow. BUT in teh meantime are there any suggestions???

Nausea is just one side effect of doxycycline. It may also cause dizziness which is why you should always take this with a snack or a full glass of water. The nausea really stinks! Water blisters...all I can say is that doxycycline also makes you very photosensitive. If you've been out in the sun, this may have cause it. (Do you get blisters when you get sun burnt?) Penicillin is in a different class of antibiotics so I don't suspect any cross-sensitivity there. Benadryl would not help, in fact, that makes you sleepy. Ouch, hope you feel better. Don't pop those blisters.
