You can pretty much use any statin (the class that simvastatin is in) to treat high cholesterol. If you use a newer one, like Lipitor or Crestor, it will be a smaller dose and more expensive. If you use an older medicine, like pravastatin, lovastatin, or fluvastatin, it will be a higher dose. Do you have specific problems with simvastatin? And no, there is no other generic for Zocor.

simvastatin upsets my wife's stomach. My insurance won't pay for a name brand when a generic is available.
