Can Lipitor cause pre-diabetes symptoms?

Posted at 11:50 PM on Apr 30, 2009 by bluewing737, #9805
Does anyone know if Lipitor can cause pre-diabetes symptoms? My blood glucose was high on the fasting blood test, and it wasn't before I started lipitor 5 years ago. It makes sense that it might, considering lipitor's effects on the liver. I became toxic and have been off lipitor for 3 weeks now.

This dangerous drug can cause MANY side effects. You need to ask your dr. about your pre-diabetes question. Good that you stopped taking this POISON. . . .surprised that you didn't had problems before if you were taking it for 5 years.

First of all - I have never taken Lipitor or any other statin - nor would I. I have seen side effects in people close to me. That forced me to to look for information in books and on the Internet. Yes, statins can alter your blood sugar. Here is a part of a patient story from www.spacedoc.net. ".... . I am at my wits' end--I just don't know what to do about all this. After being on Lipitor for a while, I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes--and I suspect Lipitor caused it. My Dr. has not suggested any alternatives to Lipitor, and we are not on our previously friendly basis!... " No, doubt there are other stories. When it comes to the cholesterol issue please visit www.ravnskov.nu, www.spacedoc.net, www.thincs.org (may interesting articles under "news" and "links"). Also visit www.statineffects.com (there you will find links to The University of California Statin Study (Beatrice Golomb). If you look at Adverse Effects on that site you will find more information. Google "Stopped our statins" - there is lots of information about different side effects etc. Read Anthony Colpos book "The Great Cholesterol Con" and Marcia Angell`s "The Truth About The Drug Companies". I could make this list very much longer. I love the Internet. Imagine here I am sitting in Sweden and thanks to my experience as a concerned relative I can try to help you! Good luck - the situation is exactly the same in Sweden.

Yes, all statin trials have shown an increase in diabetes in the statin group vs. placebo. Interesting how they never talk about this when they advertise statins on tv or magazines. From your username, you must be a 737 pilot. Southwest? If you are an airline pilot, I strongly urge you to look into the side effects of statins with cognitive function? Cholesterol lowering severely affected my thinking skills for instrument flying.
