Can Lipitor cause inflammation of nerves?

Posted at 1:45 PM on Jun 07, 2009 by mcuneo1, #10128
My mom is currently hospitalized because of extreme muscle weakness in both leg along with inflammation of the sciatic nerve. She now has be to transferred to a rehab hospital to hopefully regain her strength to walk again without falling. She has taken Lipitor for 2 years. Her doctors believe Lipitor is what caused this to happen to her. Is Lipitor known to cause inflammation of nerves? Is it possible for the muscle damage to be permanent?

I am a victim of this dangerous drug . . . although I stopped taking it 16 mos. again, I still have side effects. . . .muscle/nerves. etc. everyone is different .. . . in time, a lot of people get better. . unfortunately, some never. The drs. and the drug co's have a SCAM going on anti-cholesterol . . . it is big $$ business and people suffer. Your mind/body needs cholesterol to function.

cholesterol plays an important role in nerve function. On our nerves is a protective fatty layer, much of which is made up of cholesterol. This protective layer is called the myelin sheath. Cholesterol is made in the liver and the LDL protien carries cholesterol from the liver to all the tissues of the body. Once on the jop site, cholesterol goes to work making repairs to nerves and cells. When we inhibit our body's ability to make LDL chiolesterol, we have fired our body's maintenance crew. Cholesterol is the building blocks to healthy nerves and muscles. Inhibit cholesterol and we risk deterioration. This is why this has happened to your mother. But those with commercial financial interests in the cholesterol lowering theory will deny it.
