Hi; I've been switched to Klonopin .5 mg. qid in lieu of the Valium 10 mg. qid I've been off for an off label use for 15 years. Valium has a long half life with it's active metabolites and I'm wondering if the agitation, hyper-excitability, rapid pulse I feel is due to Valium withdrawal or Klonopin addition. I understand Valium metabolites can be stored in body fat for years. Thoughts anyone? It's been 3 weeks since the switch.

excuse me, a typo; Should be "on" instead of "off" for 15 years.

Well, I personally believe Klonopin to be a nightmare drug. I've only been taking it for two weeks 1mg at night and .25 mg during the day so 1.25mg per day total. I was having opposite reactions to what i should have been having...major anxiety, panic attacks, etc. My dr. told me to go off it He said I wouldn't withdraw because I was on a low dose for a very short period of time. However, the past four days (the time I've been off) has been a nightmare. I've been going through withdrawal symptoms so badly. I say it could be either. Klonopin in my opinion is a horrible drug. I didn't abuse it yet got addicted so quickly. YUCK. My axneity and panic feels better but the withdrawal symptoms are horrific.

Hi; Re, addiction; I feel Klonopin rates up there with Xanax, EVEN THOUGH, it has a longer half life than Xanax. I continue in the 15th year of Valium at a now 10 mg. tid, and do feel my body is not reacting to it as earlier. Seems the benzo is actually causing symptoms. I suppose this could be rebound withdrawal, or, the old bod is finally saying; "OK, Enough already... " Thanks for your comments, Becky! Russ ( whose PCP thinks he is a junkie; NOT )
