This just happened to me also just today 2/13/09. I thought it was strange and I called and talked to the Pharmacist because I had just changed pharmacy and I thought they made a mistake. He said there is a difference in the two and if I was on ER before that there may of been an error when the office called in my prescription. It was 8 o'clock at night and the pharmacist called my physician and he wanted me to stay on the ER. I was able to bring back the others and exchange. The ER cost more but there is a difference. The ER stands for extended release which I assume means the medication stays in your system longer helping you with your pressure. You may want to double check with your physician.

Strange isn't it that we both had the same experience. Stranger still that we got different responses when asking about the change. I called my doctor's office and was told that because the Succinate ER was on "back order" it is ok to take the new Tart tablet. I think I remember reading in the newspaper a couple of days ago that there was some reason to stop production of Toprolol but did not think it affected Metoprolol. If you find out anything more please let me know. And thanks for having answered my previous request. I am not sure what the right thng to do is proper now.

I have a similar experience. I was on Metoprolol Succ ER 50mg and when I got a refill it was changed to Toprol XL 50 mg because the pharmacist said there was a nationwide recall on Metoprolol.

I too had been on Metoprolol Succ.Er Tabs 100 mg for a while. The mail order pharmacy was unable to refill the prescription and I got various answers-"can't get from company", "was recalled due to a mislabeling" My doctor prescribed Bystolic-a brandname, doctor's samples, more expensive, not even on my drug plan's formulary-some negative effects but has now moved me to metoprolol tart tab 50 mg 2x daily. What is really going on here?
