does irregular use of Synthroid cause serious health problems?

Posted at 11:55 PM on Feb 24, 2008 by ldina, #4971
I have an adult daughter that does not take her synthroid regularly and it worries me that she might be causing herself harm. Sometimes she skips it for a week or two! It seems that would be dangerous. Does irregular use cause any serious problems ? Could you comment on this so that I can either quit worrying about it....or show her why she needs to take it regularly. Thanks, LdV

I agree with nicolewo8's response. I am assuming your daughter doesn't struggle with fatigue from being hypothyroid, because she feels she doesn't need to take it every day. For many of us, we know exactly how we will feel if we miss a day or two, and it's horrible (at least for me). It depends on your daughter's symptoms really. If Synthroid isn't taken faithfully everyday, then the symptoms won't go away, and will only get worse as time goes by. -Karly
