I have been on Synthroid for a Hypothyroid for almost three years.......Experience few side effects.....but one that has freaked me out since my diagnosis is the hair loss.........and it isn't stopping!!! my doctor never told me that this could be due to the meds.....any suggestions.....She just upped my meds to .75 milligrams ..seven days a week, before it was 75 milligrams 6 days a week..Is this right.........Should I find another doctor
FIND ANOTHER DOCTOR! I had the exact same problem, along with dry skin, fatigue, weight gain and the inability to lose any, etc. for the past 5 years. Every time I went to the Dr. and told him my symptoms, he told me that the lab results were fine and that I should be ok. (Thanks....I'm sure the lab tests are much more important than how I actually feel). (I must note that I have also been to 3 different doctors to date; all because they said the same thing and weren't willing to work with me or care about how I was feeling.) I finally decided to take a different route and found a Dr. who would prescribe Armour Thyroid. (Synthroid was obviously not working for me). I have done a lot of research on Armour, (An excellent site is Stopthethyroidmadness.com) and decided to give it a try. I have only been on Armour for a little over a week, but the hair loss has already slowed way down. I know I'm not at my optimum dosage on the Armour yet; (it takes time to get there), but I already feel better and just the fact that I'm not losing clumps of hair every time I shower has been worth it for me. Good luck to you and God bless.
Let me add to my post above...I've been thinking about it and it sounds like your doctor really is trying to work with you. If you feel comfortable with her and trust her, then maybe you can suggest that she either switch you to Armour, (if you want to try it...I suggest you look at the site I suggested above as well as Mary Shomon's thyroid site and learn all you can so you can make some decisions for yourself and your care.), or maybe even add some T3 to your T4. Good doctors who are willing to listen and willing to try different treatments are hard to come by, so if you have one like that, and you feel confident with her, you should hang on to her. Again, the best of luck to you!
