Can going off toprol xl 100mg cold turkey cause headaches?

Abruptly stopping this medication is dangerous. You must gradually decrease your dosage, otherwise you are risking chest pain, or worse, heart attack. (I'm not a doctor, but you probably have headaches because your blood pressure increased to high from stopping cold turkey.) Talk to your doctor before stopping this medication!
