My son's been on singulair for 7 years for asthma. He is now 12. Always blamed the mood swings on the steroids as all the meds started at the same time. When we stopped the steroids a few years ago, the moodswings didn't stop. He has learned to control his anger most of the time. I just took him off the singulair 6 days ago and it's like taking a step backwards. He's very emotional, crying, short tempered, headaches.
It's like everything been magnifyed! How long will this drug stay in his system?
My son's off for 4 weeks now. There have been some major changes. His frequent headaches have disappeared, he's not as moody, and he seems to sleep better.
The first week off, his mood swings were horrible, but that seem to be tappering off. He's still moody off and on, seems like it lasts a day and then he'll be fine again.
He seems to actually be more amimated, just alot more lively which I didn't expect. Always has been very "slow", if thats the right term.(He's very bright, but always seemed to be physically slower, walks slow, last one to be anywhere) Now he just seems full of energy. It's a bit of a shock.
He's a chatterbox now, like his older sister. I just thought it was a girl/boy difference. And he's dropped weight. I didn't expect miracles going off singulair, but that's alot of changes.
