How many people have reported diabetes onset after prednisone treatment?

My dr. told me 9 months after using prednisone (bottle after bottle) to cure my lung infection, I have steroid induced diabetes. No one ever on either side of my family have had diabetes. I am 60, 130 lbs. If this is a common problem why isn't a person warned that the cure could cost you a change that would last a lifetime?
