My finance has been on Wellbutrin for almost 4 years now. His doctor also suggested he start taking Lamictal 100 mg with the Wellbutrin. After being on the 100 mg his doctor increased the dosage to 150 mg. He has been on the 150 mg with the Wellbutrin now for 2 weeks and just yesterday I noticed that he wasn't acting himself. He seemed to be more aggressive and was forgetting things, etc. Can taking these two medications cause these effects?
I started taking Lamictal about two months ago and am up to 100 mg. My depression was still a problem (I had a major manic episode from April to July and completely was completely crashed by September) so the doctor added Wellbutrin XL and am up to 300 mg of that. My main complaint is forgetfulness - it sucks! I'm going to have to start writing EVERYTHING down. I'm still job hunting and am afraid it'll take forever to get trained and learn everything because I just don't retain information like I used to. Both drugs are meant to energize you so I have trouble sleeping at night so I have to take Ambien. I'd hate to have to get ANOTHER stinking prescription to help me focus but I might have to. Everyone keeps telling me to stay on the meds and be patient. It can take months to fine tune the right combination of meds - ugh - but I can't risk going manic again, I made a huge mess for myself last time. Best of luck to your fiance.
I have been on 300 mg Wellbutrin for 2 years and my doctor decided to add Lamictal for Generalized Anxiety Disorder. I am very depressed in the winter so Mine may be that seasonal depression but Lately I just don't know if it is working. I started taking Provigil to focus at work b/c I couldnt. SO you are right... You have to take one thing to counteract another and its a Viscious cycle.... I have lowered myself to 150 wellbutrin and 100 Lamictal. I am trying to come off both of them and see how I am without all this in my system. One day I am Pro-Meds and then I realize, I still have my days of sadness.... I can't be gaining weight, still having mood swings etc... so I may as well get off.... I will let you know in a month how it goes with me coming off both.
No, Wellbutrin is an antidepressant, whereas Lamictal is an anticonvusant/mood stablizer. And as far as the Provigil thing, that is only approved for narcolepsy, shift work sleep disorder, and obstructive sleep apnea. However it is used off-label for ADHD depression,[9] cocaine dependence,[10] Parkinson's disease,[11] schizophrenia,[12] shift worker's sleep disorder. Now most insuranse won't cover off-label use of meds unless you can convince your doctor that you need it for the approved used by the FDA. Long story short if you cant focus at work, then you may have adult ADHD/ADD and there are meds for that Ritalin is the worst, try Straterra, Adderall, or a combo of Adderall with wellbutrin which is also supposed to help with ADHD off-labl but it boosts the antidepressant effects of Wellbutrin. For your anxiety, you might try Xanax, Klonopin, Ativan, or Valium, but I prefer Xanax or Ativan, Xanax is best for severe anxiety/panic attacks. Try to stay on your Wellbutrin, and get on Adderall with Xanax and if you have pain like me vicodin, because Wellbutrin can cause migraine. thats my combo, but keep in mind that doctors don't like that changing meds every month thing. Wellbutrin 100 MG three times a day for depression, Xanax 1 mg three times a day as needed, And Adderall 30 mg twice daily, and Vicodin 5/500 mg is perfect combo for me after all the meds i have tried. I got off the Abilify and Ambien, because Ambien is more habit forming than xanax. you should look into this combo.
Hi,
and thanks for your response. This happened almost 2 years ago and I finally realized why he was acting differently. He was using feurocet (spelling?) and ended up getting really messed up on these and went to rehab probably 4 times in about 3 months...
Things seem fine now - so I will keep my fingers crossed.
Thanks,
