levaquin and cancer

Posted at 9:15 PM on May 22, 2009 by seakelp27, #9999
84 year old mother took 8 500 mg tablets for undiagnosed infection. Goes to hospital with swelling in her throat a week later. Biopsy reveals some kind of cancer (not yet sure what kind). Does anyone know of a link between Levaquin and cancer?

Someone in my family now in hospital awaiting biopsy today. For the past 2 months has seen numerous docs and specialists who thought might be an allergy to levaquin. Finally saw someone who ordered chest CT and found mass near superior vena cava. Biopsy will determine type of mass, but what I've read says usually type of lymphoma or lung cancer. Do you have any more info?

Sorry wasn't finished yet. Did you get the biopsy back yet? I hope things go well for her, and treatment will be quick and successful. Is the cancer in her throat where the swelling was? In our case swelling was all over face and neck, and if she lifted her hands above her head her face turned purple.

Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer, The worst type. Dad also took Levaquin, had severe reaction, and ended up in hospital . Diagnosed with B-Cell Lymphoma few weeks later.

Found some research that suggested a link between antibiotics and b-cell lymphoma.
