Lvothyroxin and foot pain

My father-in-law has been taking Levothyroxine for about 3 years. He has noticed and increase in foot pain and aching. When he has accidentally forgotten to take his levothyroxine, he reports and decrease in foot pain and aching. He has now since stopped taking levothyroxine due to this to figure this out and his feet feel great....no pains or aching? Is this a common side affect?
