Neurontin trouble

Posted at 9:39 AM on Jan 17, 2008 by kathrynengel, #4497
My mother took neurontin (gabapentin) for about two weeks. doctor did not tell her to gradually put it into her system. Her tongue swollen so badly that it cracked, too weak to get out of bed, and dizzy, slurred speech. She did not realize that it was the neurontin and continued to take 1800 mgs a day for the two weeks. I told her to stop due to her drugged state. Now she runs a low grade fever, had a UTI, is sometimes too weak to get out of bed, has a dry cough, and blood work says she is anemic. Found listing for side effects of this drug and all are listed. Problem is they are not going away. Any one else with this problem?

I to am on Neurontin even though I found out after it was to late that I should never have been prescribed it that it was dangerous for me to be taking it. I tried to stop taking it but it has made me a wreck. I have trouble sleeping, lose control of my hands, severly burned myself because of it twice. I have problems with memory and speech, it has made my life a nightmare. I am stuck also and do not know what to do. Is there any recourse for people like us. The doctor that prescribed it for me won't even see me or talk to me about it. But it is more dangerous to stop taking it then it is to find help. Please let me know if you have any solutions. Thanks. I can be emailed at dixie74801@yahoo.com
