panic disordere

My doctor put me on depakote for panic disorder, I am not sure he has made the right decision. Should I be taking depakote for panic disorder. The reason why he gave me the depakote is because in the past I have had bad reactions to anti depressants. I went on an anti depressant last year for anxiety and they had to give me xanax for along with the anti depressant so that I could get on it. Since then I had two episodes of depression and then they switched it too Lexapro for the depression from the cymbalta for my depression and that made me even more anxious, so he is thinking I may have bi polar but definitely a panic disorder as my heart races and I can't think straight and am very forgetful.
