Prednisone prescribed by Dermatologist

My skin doctor gave me Prednisone for acne treatment. I don't understand this. I've been reading about this drug causes acne and I don't want the side effects that steroids cause which is increase in weight. Why did the doctor prescribe this drug for acne treatment.

Why not ask the dr. who prescribed this drug? There are many alternatives for acne issues. . . .most drs. are drug-happy.
