Quitting Lamictal

Posted at 9:51 AM on Aug 10, 2007 by wkfountain, #2876
I was diagnosed with Bipolar 1 when I was 52 years old. I was prescribed Lamictal 200 mg and Risperdal 2mg. I am now 55 years old, having taken Lamictal for 3 years. I was taken off Risperdal about 6 months ago. I have only had one episode in my life, it lasted about 1 1/2 years until I felt normal again. I have been normal for about the same amount of time (1 1/2 years). My question is: Does the brain become dependent on Lamictal. If I stop taking it, which I hope to gradually decrease, is it probable that I will have another episode? My pdoc says I will without question.
