quitting smoking when on paxil

I've been on paxil for 17 years,started smoking 8years ago(I'm 42) during a divorce,and now want to quit smoking.I quit for 8 days and was already feeling better,a little irritable,but not bad.On the 8th day my car had problems and I had a complete breakdown(mentally),extreme anger followed by extreme sadness and 3 days of no sleep and depression.Is this normal? Is there a drug interaction between paxil and nicotine?
