Remeron for over one year

Posted at 5:31 PM on Dec 09, 2002 by ejsulla, #340
I've been on remeron for over one year, currently at 60mg/day. I don't know why my Dr. has me on this amount, as everything I have found in my research indicates a maximum of 45mg/day. At first it did seem to help a bit with my major depression, at the time I was on 40mg of paxil, too, which was a nightmare in itself. I was then switched to Celexa, which had less G.I. problems than paxil, although I still experienced anxiety daily, and the combination of celexa and remeron drained me of all energy-All I wanted to do was sleep in the morning. Now that I have been on 'just' Remeron,I've been boosted to 60mg/day-while on the ssri's I was taking 30mg of remeron at night. At first after elimianting the ssri's I felt great- I had energy and my mood improved dramatically. Now I am depressed again(still?), and I wonder if I should get off of Remeron. Doesn't anyone know how long one should be on Remeron if they are not feeling less depressed? The weight gain I have experienced on Remeron is not helpful with my depression. I have never had a weight problem before. Also, I now have high blood pressure, which also has never been an issue before. Do antidepressants cause high blood pressue? I'm convinced Remeron has caused the weight gain. It seems that I came into the Dr.'s office with anxiety and depression, and now I have two more problems to deal with on top of the original two. Why can't these Dr.'s seem to help me? I am very frustrated by this situation, and extremely skeptical of all Dr.'s now.
