I have been taking Lipitor since 2003. Several months ago I slowly developed a slurred speech. I am currently seeing a neurologist and having extensive testing done. My MRI was normal. He is testing for ALS among other diseases. He took me off Lipitor about two months ago. I began taking 200mg of CoQ10 about a month ago. I still slur. If it's the lipitor, will I recover? Will the CoQ10 help? Am I taking a correct dosage?
In my dread and panic, I thank you for your help.

This dangerous drug can cause MANY side effects, including speech problems. Unfortunately, drs, continue to push the anti-cholesterol drugs when people suffer and waste time/$ for testing. . . . Statins are big $$ business. In reality, your mind/body needs cholesterol to function properly. Everyone is different, but, since you were taking this POISON for several years, you could take awhile to rid of it in your system. Don't let your dr. to con you to take any statins.
I am a victim of Lipitor, too . . . . Let me know if I can help you.
Kathy,
The highest concentrations of cholesterol are found in the brain.
Of course our speech command center is in the brain. We all learned that in high school biology class. But few people realize that roughly 25% of the body's cholesterol is found in the brain. Cholesterol plays a very important role in nerve transmission in the brain. A process called "synapses".
Lipitor toxicity can mimic ALS and other neurological disorders. Cholesterol helps form the fatty insulating myelin sheath around our nerves.
My speech was affected after aggressive cholesterol lowering, and I recovered. I understand what you are going thru, but try not to panic. Panic and worry will only serve to delay healing.
Learn not to fear cholesterol. It gives us life. Without it we would not exist.
