Can someone out there please tell me if you or anyone you know has encountered heart palpitations after taking synthroid for just a couple of weeks?? I have tried it every which way, just starting with the lowest dose, even breaking the 25's in half to 12.5mg! No matter how I take it sure as can be I still get jumps in my chest, enough to have to go the ER. So, I have to stop taking it and I have hypothyroidism, what's one to do...?
My doctor put me on Synthroid 25 mg back in Feb. I took it for about 35 days and had terrible heart palp. Like you - thought I'd have to be rushed to ER! It was very uncomfortable. I also was unable to sleep. I also was starving all the time and gained 10 pounds while on it. So I stopped it. Last week another doctor put me on Levoxyl 25 mg and the first day I developed terrible hot flushes, Day 2, depression, crying set in like you wouldn't beleive, hot flushes worst and no energy to get out of bed. So i stopped taking it. Now thinking about seeing an Endocrinologist, because seems my OBGYN and GP doctors don't know what they are doing. My TSH is only 6.0 - so not very high. It was 5.0 in Feb.
Like you I don't know what to do. MY GP was going to add Cytomel to the Levoxyl, but I'm not so sure. I'd rather get a 3rd opinion by an expert in the field. I thought I'd cut the Levoxyl in half, but if you still had the side effects, I guess not worth trying to go thru all that again. Please keep me posted on what you do and find out.
I've been on Synthroid for 32 years. Developed heart palipatations in late 40's and doc said was just menopause..Ha! Three years ago developed heart racing or Atrial Fibulation..........in & out of the emergency room. Finally had heart catherization /ablation last February. Was doing great, but now heart acting up again 8 weeks after dose uped from .100 to .112. Now doc trying to take it back down to .100, but then I get severe joint pain in ankles, knees, wrists, & shoulders...yikes! Now don't know what to do. There is no in between dose of Synthroid. I hate Synthroid! But had thryoidectomy so many years ago and must take a thryoid replacement. Also, I have gluten sensitivity so must have medication with out gluten. What to do?
