ultram er 200mg vs vicodin 5/500

Vicodin is better for pain. But it is more additive than ultram. Ultram would be safer to take!

I have suffered with chronic discogenic pain for years, and have taken several different medications to manage the discomfort. My preference is the Vicodin 7.5/750 or 5/500 because they seem to take the edge off to a better degree than the Ultram 300. The Ultram 300 is safer in my opinion (not a doc) because it is taken once daily, and the Vicodin is needed every 4-6 hours, which is harder on the liver, and kidneys. The Ultram works well but I still find myself needing the Vicodin 5/500 at least once a day for breakthrough pain/stiffness. I guess the answer depends on the individuals needs, and tolorance for pain. I have zero tolerance, and a doctor that dislikes prescribing Vicodin because of my age.There are several different factors in a doctor's decision for prescribinig medication. It would be best to ask this question to your doctor or pharmacist as they are the better qualified to reply. My answer is strictly experience related, and I am also seeking other's opinions for information about side effects they have expreienced/not experienced, from taking the Ultram ER. So if you take Ultram ER, please leave feedback as a patient too. It would be very helpful to know of different websites that offer professional prescription advise. I have a back injury. I was taking vicodin 7.5/750 and then my new doctor prescribed Ultram er 100. Ultram does not take the edge off the pain. Told the doctor and he seems "not to care".
