I am 36 and have 2 children for starters. I had the mirena inserted on May 10, 2010 and had mild cramping afterwards. I have also had some of the less severe side effects such as cramping and spotting. About 3 weeks ago I began to feel the emotional side effects. I have been nervous and anxious. I am experiencing panic attacks and mood swings as well as depression. I have not be able to sleep through the night in weeks. As many women have stated I feel as if I'm going crazy and have become a person I do not even recognize.* After speaking with my ob/gyn she said she has not heard of this happening in any other women and is there anything going on in my life that would trigger this. There are circumstances out of the norm occurring right now, but nothing the "old me" wouldn't have been able to handle. She has suggested waiting it out a few more weeks to see if I level out... has anyone attempted to wait it out? Did it get better?

* I have experienced this emotional roller coaster one other time in my life and it was 6 years ago during my first 5 months of pregnancy.

I started taking Loestrin 24 about 3 months ago and had horrible breakouts the first three weeks (I think it was just my body adjusting to having hormones as I had not been on BCP before) but after that have experienced nothing but what I would consider good side effects. I haven't gained much weight with the exception of the increase in cup size...went from a full D to a DD and my periods that were at least seven to ten days of pain before are barely spotting for a few days, 2-3. I haven't been on it for long but from what I've experienced I like it.

I have sever headaches everyday! I have also gained weight, and it just won't come off no matter what I do. The "break through" bleeding is awful and my sex drive is so low as to be nonexcistant. I have high blood pressure, and am on meds for that, and have been worried the headaches were being caused by that. I am going crazy with the mood swings and am having diarrhea atleast 3 times a week. I have been having heart palpatations and depression so I was put on meds for that(which is also contraindicated for high blood pressure). All so I don't have to have the heavy 7 -9 day periods...So no Worth It!!

This site is certainly an eye opener! I’ve been on Lisinopril for two months and feel worse than I’ve felt in years—and believe me, that is no small thing! In the past twelve years I’ve had ten surgeries, including both rotator cuffs, four back surgeries, four hip surgeries. I’ve also had eight shoulder dislocations and seven hip dislocations as well as a MERSA and pneumonia…and at no time did I feel as tired and listless as I have since I started taking Lisinopril. The dry, hacking cough is embarrassing as well as painful; when I hack and cough my way into a room, others find reasons to leave! Breathing in Florida in the summertime is a chore in itself. Take Lisinopril on top of that and you find yourself stopping to gasp for air every few steps. I’ve been afraid to make plans with friends and family because I don’t know if I’ll have the energy to get up that morning, let alone actually go somewhere or do something. All the joints and parts that have been replaced and repaired have decided to ache at the same time. My feet swell enough that my shoes don’t fit by afternoon. And brain fog? I had to write the symptoms down when I thought about them because I knew I would never remember them all when I got to the dr’s office. Of course, she took one look at my meds list and one listen to my cough and immediately knew what the problem was. So I quit taking the pills. This is day three without the Lisinopril and I’m still coughing, aching, loafing, and swelling. The dr. said it might take four or five days to work out of my system. If it doesn’t, what’s next???

I have been taking Singulair for about three to four months, and for the past three weeks have experienced severe leg cramping day and night. The pain has been so severe that it persists even after the cramp has passed. I stopped taking Singulair two days ago, and have had only one cramp since that time. It is listed at the bottom of side effects on the list for Singulair side effects. I will not take it again as these were the worst possible cramps I have ever experienced.

I just returned from the doctor. I have been on10 mg. Lipitor for over 7 years. Recently, I've been experiencing achy joints, stiffness, back ache, and numbness in my arms when I sleep. He told me to stop taking Lipitor for 6 weeks to see if the cause is side effects. I'll let you all know in 6 weeks. 56 male.

I have been on 40mg of Simvastatin for more than a year. I began to notice pain in the left hip, lower back and knees last summer. But On 30 November, the constant pain in the left hip became so severe that I almost called an ambulance. I could not walk, stand or sit without extreme pain. After taking about 8 pain pills I was finally able to crawl to bed. The pain in the hip continued, but at a reduced rate thereafter. As long as I was sitting I was ok. But as soon as I got up or woke up in the morning, I could hardly walk because of the intense pain in the hip and lower back.

My doctor finally recommended physical therapy in March 2010 after three xrays of the hip and lower back found nothing unusual. Instead, I did some research and finally stopped taking simvastatin unilaterally on 14 July after reading about painful side affects.

After being off that medication for about a week all of the pain practically disappeared. I still have slight pain in the lower back after two weeks, but the hip and knee pain has totally disappeared, and I can now stop routinely taking pain pills. There is no doubt my pain issues are related to the Simvastatin.

I was recently prescribed YAZ and it's been 2 weeks so far. I feel happy! No real problems and haven't even spotted!

Anyways, a day or so after taking YAZ I am having trouble sleeping through the night! I will fall asleep at 11pm or around that time after a long day and wake up at 3am, 4am, 5am, 6am, 7am, 8am and then I'm finally so restless I just wake up for good. I toss and turn all night! I wake up with my sheets and blankets blown across the room like a tornado came through!

Does anyone else expereience this? Does it ever go away?

Hi ladies. I just in shock today I found out that I have a pituitary tumor! My prolactin levels are high, I had the Mirena inserted 2 years ago. Since then I have abdominal pain, cramps, joint pain (in my knees and elbows), and lately dizziness, blurry vision, and lactating. I really didn't know that the Mirena can be the cause. Now I am lactating, all sweaty and the tumor! My doctor recommended and I trusted her, now I am not sure if I am sure it was my worst decision ever...

I had Mirena inserted 3/10/09 after insertion very painful for about an hour than mild cramping for about a week. Had bleeding straight through for about 3 months than just spotting since then. Have had bad discharge and sex drive has gone which sucks husband is just out of his mind. Had gained about 10 pounds up until I had a needed surgery which dropped me from 135 to 122 but it was the surgury. I recovered from surgery around Feb. 2010 since then gained back all that weight and then some 145 pounds. I haven't changed eating habbits. I can't seem to feel happy have mood swings and Im always tired and always straving. I recently had severe breast pain like pregnancy and my breasts have definatley gotten larger. My look pregnant and my thighs have gotten huge also. I have had digestive problems at least 8 months or more I have several bowel movements a day which never had before. Im gassy and bloated and have misterious pains in my abdomen sometimes twingy and other times sharp and intense. Have had bad mood swings where I am either so emotional or completely mad out of my mind. Depressed all the time feelings of unhappiness even when I should be happy. Getting this thing out on 8/9/2010 can't wait to feel normal again.

i cant believe what im reading on this site. i had my daughter in march 09 i tried the "patch" for a while which worked great except my hormones didn't like it and made my blood pressure rise. so i got the iud in june i think. its worked just fine not pregnant or anything although i feel like i am.. i feel little thumps on my stomach which i dont know if it could be gas but it feels an awful lot like when i had my daughter in my tummy. im always tired cant seem to get enough sleep and i eat like crazy. i have gained 15-20 lbs since i had my baby. i dont know if i could be pregant or not?? i do have mood swings like crazy, loss of sex drive, lack of energy, and weight gain one thing that i have never had is cramps. i want to take it out but i know if i do i will get pregnant but i dont want that to happen i have to much going on. i cant use any birth control that has hormones in it so im pretty much shit out of luck. but i want to get it out so i can be happy again and have sex like i used to with my husband i dont know what to do!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was told to take aspirin 30 minutes before taking Niaspan ER 500MG. Well, I didn't on 2 nights. The first night was OK, but on the 2nd night, I woke up on fire from my head to my toes. No sweating, just reddness and burning. I took an aspirin and it went away in about 45 minutes, but it was awful. My heart was beating rapidly and I started thinking I might have a heart attack or someting. I am calling my doctor and telling her of this and that I am disposing of this horrendous drug. My battle against cholesterol will be a healthier diet and baby aspirin. I am glad I found this site.

I am a nurse and have taken simvastatin for 2 mos after 2 weeks of taking the new drug i started having charlie horses severly in my legs at night. i chalked it up to walking all day at work in the ER and bought 2 new pairs of shoes. then i GOOGLED it and was shocked to here the severe side affects of this drug was what i was experienced. mine were, ringing in the ears, nighmares, pain in my legs all day long, without relief with aleve or tylenol. up all night with charlie horses. last sunday i coud not get out of bed, very tired and i usually am out of bed at 0400 am and busy all day not a lazy person. i felt like i was in quick sand pain in my hands, forearms, shoulders, even hurt to hold my head up, severe pain in my back, and heavy sore to touch crampy legs, it actuall hurt to walk or do anything at all. i went to the dr. monday, she told me i was having a reaction to the new med to stop taking it and wanted to put me on a new statin. i refused because i have researched them and they all have same side effects i will try coQ10 and exercise and watch wath you eat. another word of advise to you all: i always get a copy of my labs to take home to interpret on the web for myself drs. are not always truthful. my doc said my labs were fine and i got a copy my bun and creatnine were low a result of severe muscle injury or severe liver injury or over hydration and means your kidneys are over working. but said i was fine and told me to drink more water, not the right answer at all. so i adivse you to get copies always and review them with your computer GOOGLE IT, you will find all the answers there.

Hello,

I got the IUD inserted 4 1/2 yrs ago, I had been on the pill for ten years and needed a change. The Dr. said that I would experience slight cramping upon insertion. Little to say I almost passed out from the pain and bled for days after that. The first year I noticed a change in my periods, I used to have a light flow 2-3 days. After the IUD it was Niagara Falls and 5-7 days long!!! That was ok at the time cuz it was the only side effect.I was sexually active and in the third year I started to get pregnancy frights. I did at home test and they were positive!!! But then I would get my period eventually, sometime three weeks late and it was not a normal period. It was full of clots and extremelly painful. I was exhausted all the time and felt no drive for anything at all. The Dr. said that it was possible that I was getting "pregnant" and that the IUD was interupting the growth of the embryo causing me to miscarriage. That's hard to swallow, I was taking BC not to get pregnant, but was still getting pregnant and was miscarrying. Emotionally it's very hard on a woman to know that they are pregnant 3-5 a year I've been a stress ball thinking I'm pregnant and going to have a baby and than not. I've searched internet forums for similar case. I have found none. The Dr. said that the IUD may no longer be releasing the hormones, resulting in me conceiving and having the IUD being present in the uterus was causing the miscarriages. Another side effect was bleeding after intercourse (3 days avg). My Dr. said the physical pressure of having intercourse could cause the IUD to cause an irritation and result in bleeding.I personally think it was a little more than an irritation. I suffered with yeast infections continuously which often led to UTI. The end result is that I had it removed yesterday by a different gyno than the one I had seen over the last four years. I explained to him all the complications I had experienced. He was shocked that my own Dr. would not recommend the removal of the IUD. He asked me an interesting question; How many children I had? I said none, at that point he was appauled. He told me that women who have not had a full term pregnancy should not have IUD's inserted because their uterus has not stretched and is very small. Sometimes too small, as in my case, should not ever be recommended as a form of BC. He removed the IUD, and it was just as painful as it was when I had inserted the first time. Sever cramping, bleeding and general weakness from the procedure. I'm not a Sensitive Sally, please I understand I race supersport motorcycles and have had crashes that never caused me as much pain as the IUD. Please get a second opinion if you experience anything like I have, it's not worth the pain and headache.

I took Loestrin 24 Fe last year for a couple of months, and it was terrible. For some reason every time I drank alcohol, even just with one drink, I would get spotty bleeding for a few days after. Everything I've researched says alcohol doesn't decrease the effectiveness of birth control pills, but I just don't believe it. I was basically having spotty on and off bleeding all the time. That can't possibly be healthy..

I've tried to find women who have also had this problem with the pill, but mostly women are just getting terrible hangovers and nausea. Don't get me wrong, I'm incredibly thankful I didn't have this issue, but I can't possibly be the only one who had such bad bleeding after a single drink.

Also, I started to get seriously dangerous mood swings. So I definitely can relate to the terrible depressed feeling.

I stopped taking the pill right after I realized what was going on, and I'm fine now. I'm not taking any birth control pill at the moment, just because I'm scared that craziness will happen again.. but I'm hoping to find a different option that won't cause me to have a boring, depressing lifestyle.
