I have been on Lipitor for almost 5 years. I started with a low dose of 10mg for 3 years but my cholesterol did not come down significantly enough so the dose was increased to 20mgs two years ago. I have noticed my hair thinning almost immediately after being put on Lipitor but when the dose was increased the hair started falling out where now it is noticeable, at the front along the hairline, on top and at temples. It has become another problem, at this point, like having high cholesterol. It seems to be happening now at an accelerated rate and my scalp is visible from my hairline 3 inches back. Styling is now impossible without coming the hair all the way forward from the crown, what's left of it. I had no idea hair loss was a symptom of Lipitor until I thought about when it started and the fact I take no other medications. There is no history of this type of hair loss in my family. The Lipitor brought my cholesterol level down to preferred levels but if I stay on it much longer I will be bald on the top and sides of my head. I'm worried it won't grow back.

I had the Mirena inserted 2 weeks ago and about 5 days post insertion I began feeling changes. The first problem I had was the inability to fall asleep and stay asleep. My 2 months old daughter has been sleeping through the night and I was looking at the clock all hours just trying to fall asleep! I had insomnia! Then I began getting horrible acne, deep lumps in chin, very painful. I have been a horrible person to live with. I have been crying for no reason at all and yelling at my husband and children. Luckily, I noticed that these changes began happening shortly following the insertion of the Mirena. I began my research and found this website! I feel so lucky that I realized it was the Mirena before it ruined my life. I have an appointment to get it taken out in 3 days! Of course, my doctor said, "The Mirena couldn't be causing these problems, the hormones are only in the uterus." Bull! I know my body and it is having a terrible reaction to the hormones! Keep your chin up and get the Mirena out, you can be normal again!

I have a seizure disorder (Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy) that started in 2000. I was on Valporic Acid till 2005 at which time I gradually switched over to Lamotrigine (Lamictal). My reason for switching to Lamictal is because it is a lot safer for an unborn baby than Valporic Acid and I got married in 2005 so just wanted to be safe just in case. Valporic Acid controlled both my myoclonic jerks and my grand mal seizures. I was on 1500mg a day (6 x 250mg). With the Lamictal I started at 100mg/day and now am on 125mg/day (5 x 25mg). I take 3 in the morning and 2 in the evening, exactly 12 hours apart. If I take my doses longer than 12 hours apart, I start feeling the withdrawal. My body just starts feeling strange. At first I thought this way I felt meant I was going to start having myoclonus jerks or a seizure but I now realize that it is withdrawal I am feeling. I hate how my body, my life, is controlled by the Lamictal. I hate the withdrawal feeling I feel almost every evening, and it goes away once I take my evening dose. Other than that I don't really know of any side effects I have. I know I am on a really low dose compared to a lot of people. My neurologist and family doctor want me to go up on my dosage to control my myoclonus jerks better but I keep refusing because I HATE HATE HATE being on any psychiatric medication. I have been on antidepressants in the past (Paxil, Effexor, Remeron, Cipralex at different times over 4 years) and I have been through withdrawal from them. I am so glad to be free from those drugs but I tell you the withdrawal is HELL. But if it wasn't for my seizure disorder, I would GLADLY go through hell again to be off of Lamictal. Recently I tried lowering my Lamictal dosage in hopes I could be on a lower dose. I cut one of my 5 pills in half which took me from 125mg to 112.5 mg. The first 7 weeks were fine - some minor hardly noticeable side effects. But then the withdrawal hit hard - panic attacks and extreme nausea being the worst, but also very weak/no strength, anxiety, trembling, etc. After 4 days of that I went back up to 125mg and after about 3 weeks was back to normal. The only reason I did not stick it out was because my myoclonus jerks were increasing and I did not want to seizure. I have stuck out half a year of antidepressant withdrawal torture and I would've stuck out the Lamictal withdrawal if it wasn't for my seizure disorder. Great book that really helped me if you want to go off Lamictal is Your Drug May Be Your Problem - How and Why to Stop Taking Psychiatric Medications by Peter R. Breggin MD and David Cohen MD. This book really helped me during my antidepressant withdrawal. Dr. Breggin also has a website which is www breggin dot com. I do have some mild problems with anxiety and I have become a little OCD but I think that is left over from my years of antidepressant use as they both seem to gradually get better over time (I have been free from the death grip of antidepressants for 2 years now). If you decide to withdraw from Lamictal please do it SAFELY. Have strong support. Do it very gradually. Know the risks. I for one may have to be on this for life which is discouraging. After I am done having kids (I'm a 26 year old female, been married for 4 years, hoping to start a family soon) maybe I will switch back over to Valproic Acid.....it would control my jerks better but who knows if it would bring on a whole 'nother set of problems, right?

hi i had the mirena put in me on april 30, 2009 and to be honest i really dont like it. when i start my period i bleed for about 20 something days and just recently for the past couple of days i have been bleeding just a little tiny bit its really nothing though. i should have started my period a couple of days ago... but with the mirena you dont really know when... anyways i went to the doctor on june 5, 2009 so she could check the mirena... guess what? she couldn't find the strings so i had to go get an ultrasound to make sure it was in the right spot which it was... my doctor told me that since my strings werent there then it was going to be really hard to take it out... it hurt going in and im scared about how much it was going to hurt. i do have cramps from time to time... acne is bad mainly on my forehead. i want it taken out. i do have headaches at least once a day. heres some advice to any of you women who are thinking about getting the mirena... dont get it!!! My sister in law got the mirena but somehow it got lost in her uterus she got pregnant and had a little boy. the doctors were surprised that she didnt have a miscarriage because usually the mirena will cause a miscarriage. anyways the mirena came out of her because it was embedded into the placenta... again like i said if you want to save yourself trouble dont get the mirena!!!!

I had my mirena place in October 2008. I had no symptoms at first, but about 3 months ago that all changed. I'm losing my hair, severe abdominal cramping, fluttering (like being pregnant), severe lower back pain, dizziness, headache constantly at least once a day. I also had regular periods up until last month, when it simply never came. I freaked thinking I was pregnant I had all symptoms (tender breast, missed period, frequent urination, and nausea). So I called my doctor and demanded he order a blood test because with my son the home pregnancy test did not show positive until I was 3 months pregnant. Of course the test came back negative, but I swear I am pregnant, all the symptoms I had with my son I am having now. I know that I'm not but these are crazy side effects from the mirena..Also I didn't know until I read on here that the cyst are a side effect I have one on my right hand that just appeared out of no where about 3 months ago as well..It hurts just to type :)....In the end I will not have the mirena removed, the benefits surely out weigh the risks. Good luck to everyone with the mirena!

Today, I completed 10 days of taking 100 mg twice a day. It was prescribed to me by my dentist to prevent infection (took a tooth out). I had severe depression, nausea, dizziness, anxiety. I got to a point that I believed I needed psychological help. This is not me, so I begun research. Thanks to this site, I called my dentist and kaiser to told me to stop taking it since 10 is the maximum. The doctors do not believe it causes depression, but what do they know in my own personal experience with doctors with prescriptions they have put me through hell. I WANT TO THANK YOU ALL...YOU WERE MY HELP...MY SANITY. GOD BLESS EVERYONE...I AM JUST HOPING NO MORE SIDE EFFECTS ON THE LONG RUN...AND TO BE BACK TO MY NORMAL POSITIVE, OPTIMISTIC AND FUNNY SELF. HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!

I have been on Lantus for about 6 months. I have had TERRIBLE leg and foot cramps. I have chronic insomnia and hardly sleep at all. Can I just stop and go back to oral meds? Last night I spent almost the entire night in the bathtub, trying to relieve the leg and foot cramps. All day I am tired and just want to take a nap. In addition, I feel shaky all the time. HELP!!

I have no idea what most of you are saying. My son has cronic severe asthma and there have been times where he has been close to dying. He is 8 yrs old and been through a lot more than most people have been their entire lives. He has been on singulair for about 6 or 7 yrs now and he hasn't any problems with side effects that any of you are talking about. Before he was put on singulair controlling his asthma was almost impossible. For the parents who have not given ao have just stop giving their children their medication just like that. You should talk to you doctors because I know first hand how dangerous asthma can be. If any parent has ever had to rush their child to the ER and then you child was put into the icu for weeks at a time. You will think you lucky stars there is a medicine like singulair out there. Thank You for letting me share my story.

So I just read through a few of these and have to admit a similar story. I am 26 years old and have hereditary high blood pressure due to polycystic kidneys. My doctor put me on 20mg at first. I have always been an avid exerciser and after about 3 months on the drug I was in the pool swimming laps and my arms completely cramped up and started spasming, had no control whatsoever. My bestfriend's dad is a nuerologist and his mouth about hit the floor when I told him how many mg of lisinopril my doctor had prescribed. He immediately cut my dosage in half. My symptoms have still progressed and I am officially stopping taking it because I have had heart flutters and palpitations that would scare any normal human being into thinking they're dying. I also have the shortness of breath, diziness, numbness and tingling in all of my limbs, odd pains I have never had before in the most random places such as my forearms, calves, abdomen, and I feel like I have arthritis! NONE of this EVER bothered me before I started taking this medication and it has taken me months to actually come to the realization that these are not signs of aging or fatigue. I'm a healthy 26 year old female who exercises on average 5 days a week with low-fat high fiber diet. Point of my story: this drug claims to be the best on the market, but something tells me the doctor's push is coming from phramacutical endorsements!!!! Beware of the poison.

Now you guys have me all paranoid. Are any of you first time mothers because some of these things your are experiencing are also post childbirth side effects. Hair loss, when you are pregnant you stop loosing hair, those couple of hairs you loose every time you comb your hair, well they stop happening but you keep growing more hair hence the fantastic thick pregnant lady hair. Once you have the baby the hair that didn't fall out while you were pregnant finally falls out. Also if you are breastfeeding it can cause you to loose your sex drive, its your bodies way of preventing another pregnancy because pregnancy can make your milk supply dry up and then your baby has nothing to eat! My only symptom that sucks that I KNOW is from Mirena is acne and and that's because of the kind of BC it is, which is just something I have to deal with because its the kind I need that wont mess with my milk supply and my son comes first! I am having no mood swings or depression which is something, if someone's going to get it its going to be me, I was diagnosed depressed and bi-polar and an anxiety disorder all through my teenage years and I'm fine now, maybe a little anxious but that comes with having children!

I do also have back pain but I always get back pain when I have my period and well, I've been on my period for almost 3 weeks now so.. Alot of you just sound like tired over worked Moms.

PS: tiny 35 year old.. your 35, your metabolism slows down with age and with every child you have, you can't eat all you want anymore, I lost that ability with my first child before Mirena, you just have to exchange the oatmeal cream pies for carrot sticks, its what I do.

I am 22, and a newly wed. I have been using NR since i was 18. I have been pretty happy with it until this last couple months when i have started to have some severe side effects. I actually ended up in the ER the 29th of may. i had some weight gain at the beginning but i figured that it was normal and didnt think too much of it. When i went to the ER it was because of how much pain i was in with my lower abdomen. They said they THOUGHT it MIGHT be a ruptured cyst. I went to the doctor the next day and she said that it wasnt. Since then i have noticed that my hair has been falling out, im a very thick haired blonde. (not fair!!) the pain in my uterine area has been crippling. I ended up quitting my job due to nervous break down because of the pain and the not knowing why. I have abnormal pap smears the months that i used the nuva ring. Body aches, massive head aches, depression, moodiness, heavy excruciating periods, back aches, nausea, breast tenderness, and more and more weight gain. I have gained about 50 lbs since starting NR. I used it because i am AWFUL with pills. So that leaves me with nothing other than condoms, and they hurt me. When my husband and i have sex, WHEN we have sex, it hurts before, during and after. To the tune that my husband is afraid to have sex with me, for fear of causing me pain. So what to do?

My third day taking lowest dose of Lamictal. Have been taking Adderall and Cymbalta with no negative effects. I expressed to my doctor, that I am still sleeping a lot and sometimes don't even feel like getting up to taking my meds. When I do take them, I'm pretty great for about 6 hours, then right back to the couch.....
My doctor told me to stop the Cymbalta and start taking Lamictal. The first day I was my usual self, second day: dizzy, cloudy head with bad headache in temples. Weird throbbing in head. If I turn my head to fast, it feels like I need a extra second for the rest of me to catch up. I've been in bed, lifeless for the past two days. Don't feel that I can do much with my head like this. My hip bones and lower back ache.
My main concern is "Will these side effects subside?" I'm not Bipolar. I suffer from long term Depression/Anxiety triggered by abuse and trauma.
Please if anyone out there has felt similar effects from this drug, let me know. I want to give the drug a chance, but also would like to hear other's experiences.

I love Jolessa! I haven't had any major side effects. I take pills continuously and just have light break throughs every now and then — much more manageable than my normal period! I haven't experienced weight gain, though my breasts are slightly larger than when I am off the pill, a pretty normal side effect of any pill. No mood swings and 100% less cramps than my normal cycle. Every woman is different, so this may or not be the pill for you!

I've been debating on taking this medicine for 2 days already, and I'm flat out refusing. My doctor said that I was being a hypochondriac and that Aspirin has worse effects. If they really give us this med to get more business, that's just sick. I refuse. Don't feed deer in the forest and fall and have the top of your foot cut.-boo. :(
