I took aldactone (50mg / day) for a little over 6 years for the excess hair growth associated with PCOS. It did make the hair issue much better. About a year into taking it I wasn't sure it was working, so I stopped taking it. All my old facial hair grew back while off of it, so I started back up again.

I had no problems with the medication at all - or so I thought. I have had dizzy spells for years, especially after standing up from sitting or squatting, to the point where I would almost fall over or black out. For 6 years I went on like this, thinking it was no big deal until I went to a new doctor and he mentioned that my blood pressure was low 90/60 (Usually the nurse would say "you're BP is low, that's good") and he asked me if I ever got dizzy spells and I said yes all the time. He told me to stop taking the spironalactone NOW because REALLY LOW bp can cause damage to your organs. Now that I have stopped, my face is more hairy but I'm not dizzy anymore.

It works for PCOS, but keep an eye on your BP.

extreme fatigue and after having a partial hysterectomy which left my ovaries I was not advised my ovaries would disappear which is what they did...and aldactone caused weight gain and irritability.

It also caused severe anemia which came back in my cbc blood test...I was so tired I thought I was dieing...

On it for 6 years skin did clear but minocyccline is much safer and better.

I've only been on it for just over a week, taking 25mg daily x 7 days and now !00mg daily. I am experiencing mild stomach cramping but nothing else. Have not seen any improvements yet either. I am menopausal, so I can't gage my periods. My facial acne developed when I became pre-menopausal at around age 45. I am now 52. I sometimes get very slight headaches if I don't take the medication on a full stomach.

I took Aldactone for several years. Feb. 2008, my OB/GYN found a cyst on my left ovary (after I had a period at age 62). I asked to go to an endocrinologist for a consultation, and after he asked me several questions about what I could be eating to have extra estrogen, he stated that Aldactone can cause excess breast tissue in men and ovarian cysts in women. The aldactone also caused my beast to be tight and full and I had not idea where that was coming from. After I stopped the Aldactone, the fullness in my breasts went away.

I am interested in taking Aldactone for facial hair growth and acne. Is it worth it?

My dermatologist prescribed this for acne (Im 49 and still had cystic acne due probably to neuroleptics.)

It cleared my skin, after taking for a couple of months. The real surprise, though, was regrowth of hair on my head, which had gotten thinner without mty noticing!?!!

Felt weak while taking Aldactone, and also had a couple of episodes of flu-like symptoms when I took Naproxyn for pain at the same time I was on Aldactone. Can't mix Aldactone with the NSAIDS, which I found out!!!!

Started Aldactone in response to high level of testosterone due to poly Cystic Ovarian Disease (I'm 22).
Experienced daily headaches and found that i can combat them by taking the Aldactone ONLY directly after eating.
I'm on 50 mg 2x a day.

I'm using Aldactone 3 times a day for 5 months now and the only side effect that I can see is a little bit swelling on my right breast and a bit pain when accidentally bump or touch with pressure. I'm only 30 yrs. old and suffering from hypokalemia.

Side effect for Aldactone included double menstruation roughly every two weeks. One period consisted of a dark fluid, while the other was full on menstrual cycle. Both came with bloating and water weight gain as well as the same onset of PMS symtoms and mood swings.
