Adderall X-R saved my life! I've been taking 20mg a day for 2 mos. and I noticed that it was even more effective if i drank coffee. I only just found out that you can't mix caffeine and adderall so I talked to my dr. about it and we increased my dosage to 30mg a day. I didn't have any noticeable side effects on 20mg but i've got some pretty big ones on 30mg, namely, neck pain, headaches, restless sleep, and dry mouth. has anyone experienced these and did you eventually adjust? Thanks for any response!

I began taking Adderall when I was about 16 yrs old.My doctor prescribed me 30 mg of Adderall RX. At first I would take it ALL the time (more than I was prescribed) and my grades improved tremendously..but then all the bad side effects began happening. I would get horrible back pains, had trouble swallowing (felt like I was swallowing a ball of dry food - usually happened late at night) Insomnia that kept me up all night. Another side effect that led me to stop taking the meds all together was that I felt like it was slowing my brain down. I couldn't construct sentences as easily as I once used to, and I felt like a ROBOT. I was numb to everything, my friends even started noticing my change. I was just a different person on this medication and not my usual bubbly self. So I stopped taking the medication daily and would only take it when I really needed it - for example, SAT'S, test, etc. When I got to college I began taking it as well for tests, long lectures, etc..but I started getting horrible migraines at night - not even Tylenol would work.. I used to have to lay in complete darkness and try to go to sleep. HORRIBLE. Anyway..has anyone found any remedies for the side effects you feel later on in the day when you start "coming down" from the medication? Tylenol doesn't seem to work..also, is it okay to be on sleeping pills and adderall? My doctor prescribed me both but I really felt like she was just handing out meds just cause she could so I didn't take them.

adderall XR -is a time released drug.
must be taken first thing when you wake up... the effects thus will start to wear off around 4pm... and complete by 8 or 9pm. basically we piss it out of our system.
don't take on weekends.
taking less then 20mg is not necessary...cuz then you are abusing the drug. anyone who takes less then 20mg could be simply experiencing a placebo effect. adults are not to take less then 20mg since this is the starting point. yes, metabolism does effect everyone diff.
don't mix with caffeine, or allergy drugs like zyrtec D -this drug increases your pulse and so does adderall and then if you add coffee -you could be heading towards a heart attack or even worse like a stroke.
think about the tingling effects you all have reported.
i too have had those... and there was pain that kept me up at night. i had to go to a neurologist who prescribed laxipro (depressant) to calm my nerves that had gotten literally a tight hold on my finger's blood vessels and thus i wasn't able to feel them at times.
this drug helps you focus... and times, that is what "us" anxiety prone people need -simply the time to focus in order to do our job or study for a test, etc. but cuz we are with anxiety or prone to it -genetic, it can get the most of us when this drug starts to wear off in the day -since it's time released. our anxieties return and then we feel them even more then before.

easy to understand if you read a little on this drug.
i take birth control too -so estrogen causes anxiety on it's own.

so... read... and observe your body. eat accordingly to help your metabolism adjust your body's dealing with this drug.
drink water to avoid headaches due to dehydration -this drug makes your mouth dry to begin with...so water is best vs coffee. or simply make sure to drink lots of water with your coffee.
don't take the drug past 10am -otherwise, you'll have a hard time to sleep.

don't make your own portions of this pill. if you have 20mg don't break it down. these capsels have ingredients that help the time release process and thus if you break it down or up -the effects are not known.

i'd recommend a special doctor that monitors depression with a pharmacy background. they are out there. they can begin to test your metabolism with the right drug with the right dosage to help you achieve the most effective result.

good luck everyone!

My Strangest Experience with Adderall Yet

First off, my deepest apologies if this post is way too long for it's own good. If anything, I'm surprised that I was able to write this much in the condition I'm in. I just strongly feel that people who are currently taking adderall should take get the chance to hear from a first-person experience while it's still fresh and some pointers from them, ESPECIALLY those who are new to taking the medication. This just may come in handy in the near future...

So for starters, I am currently a highschool student, as you know, the use of drugs such as adderall and other amphetamines are common in high school, and even in college. I currently have finals that I CANNOT afford to receive NOTHING BUT flying, perfect straight A's. Then again, schools and getting into colleges with so much competition have gotten much harder over the few years. Honestly, no really, honesty. I used to be straight-edge goody-two shoes, but the constant, beating high pressure of my grades and the dire need to receive straight A's cannot be helped and I eventually caved and gave in.

Grades mean everything to me... I gave up my sobriety for the grades, I mean, would you say that's unforgivable? Straight A student, responsible, healthy, and ambitious? Bad kid? I think NOT! So if you're in the same place as I am, I can't blame ya and people have no right to criticize your right to choose what are your priorities are and the sacrifices that must be given up. Don't feel guilty if that's the cause; you are not alone.

This reason for taking adderall is quite common actually, in the previous recent years. "A fall 2007 American College Health Association study found that over 90 percent of college students felt overwhelmed by all that they had to do.So it’s not surprising that some turn to illegal prescription drugs to boost their ability to study harder and longer. " (Source: http://www.bu.edu/today/campus-life/2008/05/02/other-side-adderall) In my case, due to the constant pressure from parents and the constantly-stressed beliefs that school, college, and your career is EVERYTHING, that's just how I am and I'm willing to take risks for it, even if it's my life FOR the sake of my future life.

I'm pretty sure there are those of you out there, who are going or have gone through the same experience completely understand and know what I mean. So for all you criticizing people! (Mainly those adults, who keep insisting that ALL drugs are bad for you and try oh-so hard to keep kids of drugs. You've had your time with all the bud and psychedelics, and whatnot, at least we didn't judge you! We're doing this for our future, so enough with criticism or cut the pressure.

We're not that much of mindless ignorant, juvenile delinquents that you think we are, cut us some slack, jeez. We're not stupid, we are well-aware that drugs have their side effects and consequences. I mean wouldn't believe that after years of programs school's offer such as D.A.R.E., that we get the big picture and we'd know by now? Lol when you really think about, programs like that become ineffective once a child has gone through his/or her teenage phase. It's the impulse to try things, to experiment. To do things for yourself, what makes you feel good and NOT doing what adults are telling you to do OR vice-versa, doing what they tell you NOT to do :P (ah, the first signs of teenage rebellion).

So what if they are bad and harmful to ourselves? We already know that, yet people all over the world continue to take drugs, despite the dangers and risks that they have to one's life and health. The warnings dont' stop them. You know why? Of course you do! Because people make decisions for themselves. It's the way of life. And that means, even if it takes some drugs to reach those goals. At least SOME of us, take certain drugs to get ahead and pursue something of value, so at least take that into consideration and believe that not ALL of us are drug addicts or miscreants because truth is, we're all really not that bad. So it makes you wonder, is it REALLY that wrong for people like me to take adderall for educational purposes?

Lol Eh, in most cases, blame it on the parents or the fact that it is extremely difficult to get into a good college or university :P No really. Duh. Thing is, there are also the psychological reasons behind why a person takes drugs. Whether it's for the high, the escape for emotional problems, or the just for the sake of taking them. I, on the other hand, had to make a choice on this. It was my decision, my reasons, by my hand. I chose this method. As a person, I rarely drink, smoke, blaze, or take any other drug as the matter of fact. I'm just taking adderall for the sake of college and other demands/requirements (No, it DOES NOT mean that they're encouraging students to take it, so don't take it the wrong way). I mean, I think I'm a good kid overall and I know taking adderall is not really the right way to go or path to choose; that it is a wrong, bad decision and abuse of medication. But again, hey I chose this, and it's my way of getting through parts of life.

I don't know about you but to me, it's completely worth the risk, side-effects, and the results.. I mean really, it's not like I overdose all the time or that I'm addicted (pray that I don't) on it all the time, truthfully this this only my 3rd time taking adderall. The last time of which went smoothly and pretty well, received nothing or any strange, out-of-the-ordinary side effects such as today. So, in case your wondering... No, my life so far has not become demoralized or unmanageable nor am I addicted to the substance, but I will admit that I have a slight tendency to rely on it sometimes. (Slight addiction or dependency?)

I took exactly 2 pills of adderall, rx capsules both of which are 20 mg.. which in total, equals 40 mg. I just want to know from what I mentioned above, what (like what kind of side-effects I should keep an eye out for) could pose as warning signals that I may have overdosed and perhaps, overlooked the effects, unaware of the risk I may be in. Maybe a few pointers and tips if you will, on how to lessen the effects, because as of right now, the numbing sensation is a little too much than what I expected and more than I asked for.

Unfortunately, I thought the first one got out out of my system but I'm starting to have rapid/heavy breathing, numbness (more specifically a tingly feeling) in my face/chest, both of my hands, and every time I get up to walk, my legs feel really numb/loose/weak, and it's starting to spread ALL (almost entirely) over my body, which obviously CAN'T be a good sign. Like I can barely get a hold of my head (feels like everything's spinning around) or my balance to even stand, never mind being able to walk :/ I was so woozy and dizzy, I almost fell on my way to the bathroom, which is only a few steps away! I can surely tell that I am not able to walk in a straight line. (Lights kind of dim when I'm woozy as I walk, like barely so it's not really scary, kind of trippy I have to admit). I am panicking but I'm willing and able to keep myself calm, the more self control I struggle to get the less numbness.

Despite all these things happening all at once, and that I should be panicking, I'm not afraid. I was well-aware of the consequences and the side-effects, i just never knew I would feel it so strongly. However, I am concerned with the the deafening of my ears. It occurred twice in the same hour, except just in the past 4 minutes ago as I was typing this, instead of everything becoming muffled, I only a constant grainy sound which kinda went with the rhythm of my numbness. All these prickly, numb feelings kinda synchronized with the grainy deafening.

I kinda like the feeling. And I am quiet satisfied with the extra push that I need for school, and the high that it's giving me. I won't say it makes you smarter, but it definitely helps me in my case. I was suffering from a major writer's block, but adderall definitely increased my productivity and made essays, test studying/taking, and just any tedious assignment a breeze, really. I apologize if it sounds like I'm trying to advertise this drug, but at least I'm being 100% honest. Really, couldn't have done it without and it really saved my life, now let's just hope if I DID overdose (cross my fingers that I didn't!) that I'll still live!

Again, sorry for coming off as if I'm taking this lightheartedly when important issues such as health/life is involved. Haha this really shouldn't be a joking matter, I just don't see the reason to panic. Blame the funny feeling that's causing me to behave this way.

Just from the past hour, I realized I started to worry a little, that worry grew into a slight concern, to a mild panic. And as my body quickly but gradually progressed in the numbness, I also noticed that my breathing gets even faster, and the numbness starts to travel in larger waves, which is not a feeling of which I enjoyed. So my advice, even though you're panicking, or if you feel to start get anxiety, TRY to remain cool. Doesn't matter what you do, a slap or two to the face to trying to out shake the numbness or just keep your body moving, (which I've done in the past 30 minutes, you'd be surprised that it helps a little).

But the one method that works for me is focus, let me try to explain the feeling when it starts to get a little overwhelming. Try imagining yourself like a camera, doesn't matter which (video or just camera). Picture that you're seeing through lens and maybe add the feeling of a something resembling to feeling slightly tipsy (but not exactly). It feels as though you're out of focus, try controlling, as spiritual and cheesy as this may sound, instead of panicking because as we all know, once a person starts panicking that's all they're focusing on.

One can only try to keep it together before his/or her anxiety levels worsen, which may have a possible amplifying effect of causing someone to believe he/or she is undergoing a seizure/heart attack. If anything, if a person was about under the point where they really believe they're going to have stroke, the MORE crucial and imperative it is to remain calm. The faster your heart beats which by the way, is a common side-effect, so don't panic just yet. You'll only make it worse. So the more you slow down your breathing, the slower your heart. And the less you panic, the less anxiety that causes your heart to beat faster.

So really try to focus on just focusing (if that makes sense), tell yourself to get a hold of yourself, and stay calm. As difficult as this may sound while in the state of panic, slow down your breathing. Your body is going to automatically breathe hard and fast, so it's really under your control. To help ease the numbness/tingly feeling if it's getting way out of hand, I recommend sitting flat on your butt, with your legs stretched out infront of you, this way the numbness/tingly feeling decreases and calms down just a little. While sitting in this position, lean forward, as if you're doing a pancake stretch or open pike. No need to overdo it, just stick out about 20 degrees from your hips, head over center-line. (Meaning your head has to pass your stomach).

To see if you're able to support yourself, try standing. Have something near to grab a hold on, or your legs will almost collapse like mine on my trip to the bathroom. If you can walk without toppling over or lose your footing, proceed with whatever you're doing, you're clear ;) However, if you're wobbling all over the place, I strongly suggest you take my advices above. I'm in this position as we speak, with my macbook propped between my legs, infront of me :)

IF ANYTHING, the very most important advice I can give you if you EVER take adderall or any other drugs similar to it, ALWAYS HAVE LOTS OF WATER IN REACH AND NEARBY. I DON' T CARE IF YOU HAVE TO KEEP A GALLON IN YOUR ROOM OR IN A CLASS WHILE TAKING A TEST, HAVE WATER WITH YOU AT ALL TIMES AND PLENTY OF IT. I REPEAT, THIS IS A MUST! I almost GUARANTEE you that you WILL get dehydrated and the effects of dehydration may worsen your state, more importantly your health.

So please, be safe. I thought 2 whole cups and 2 7.7 fl bottles of arrowhead water was enough, but boy was I wrong. My mouth and throat would get so dry that I would take like 1 swig every 5-10 minutes, so all that water disappeared shortly. Because I ran out of water, and still was unable to walk properly, I had a strong feeling that using the stairs wasn't a good idea.

Fortunately for me, I have an awesome older brother (who had also taken adderall and other medications before, might I add), to bring up a bottle of water for me. I'm so relieved that he was awake when I needed some assistance (Thank god he stays up late like when I do). I would've been ROYALLY screwed trying to climb my way down my huge, seemingly never-ending, staircase. Then my parents will definitely find out what I've been taking and that would lead to a huge disappointment :( ...unless i found some way to crawl back upstairs in time, which I honestly have to say may be the most impossible thing yet while under the effects of adderall :P

Anyways, this last bottle should do the trick and hopefully, last me for the rest of the night. I'm not positive but I may be coming down a little, so that's good news. I think.. Well there ya have it. My semi-scary, strange, odd-feeling experience ever.

As much as I was happy to give all that out to you guys, it all leads to one important question. From what you've read above and my detailed experiences, or even from your own experiences, the big question is... Did I overdose? Could it be possible that these signs and feelings/reactions are/were warning signs OR just part of the enjoyable high? Because I need to know whether I'm okay or not, despite that I'm calm and content. Truthfully, I can't tell and that I am unable to distinguish these 'feelings' from each other.

Because if the case is that I did overdose, that could be a big problem, either now or in the future that is, if I make it out of this one (Hopefully, its not life-threatening). I really need to know the body's signal(s) that will definitely let me know that I could possibly be in a bad situation, especially in case that this happens again and who knows, I may have really been in a dangerous state but really couldn't recognize it. So your opinions and sayings really do matter :) Not just to me, but to all the people who are asking themselves the same questions, worried out of their minds and in seek of help and advice.

So please, feel free to drop a sentence or a few. It would really help a lot. This way, I am more cautious taking the pill(s) and depending what your responses are, possibly lower my intake a tad bit. Or at least, just taking enough to get me working. Just the constant, tingly feeling makes me all giddy inside... So maybe realistically, I SHOULD be freaking out and panicking... Maybe even calling for help! :P But hopefully, someone out here will be kind to let me know your opinion and feel free to add suggestions before I resort to the sudden panicking and help :) Lol I bet by the time SOMEONE is finished reading this post and typing up their reply, I probably sobered up. Oh well, this ain't just for me, it's also for the rest of you guys out there, so this post will not be in vain :)

P.S. DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE YOU TAKE ANY OF THESE KINDS OF MEDICATION. SCRATCH THAT, DO RESEARCH ON ANYTHING GIVEN TO YOU, EVEN IF IT'S PRESCRIBED BY YOUR OWN DOCTOR! Trust me on this, it'll really help clear up thing and answer your questions, and more importantly, answers to questions regarding your health. I'm doing my research, why not do yours? It will only take a few measly minutes. As always said, better to be SAFE than SORRY!

What up. I take tons of adderall XR. Nowadays I need around 60Mills to get me going and i take 30Mills every 5 hours after that. I stay up for days.

I've had every side effect from populations to swelling of hands and feet. All except Seziure and Sudden Death. (Thank God...)

Its my essence.. I have been diagnosed as being a Sociopath. I honestly think it keeps me from killing people.

I have been taking Adderall XR on and off for about 4 years. I am 27 years old and have also been taking birth control for about 10 years. I got off birth control almost a years ago and have not had a period since, so I went to the OBGYN with my concerns as my husband and I are trying to get pregnant. Has anyone experienced missed periods? My Dr. did a pelvic ultrasound and I found out that I have PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) and its going to be hard for me to get pregnant. Has anyone else had issues getting pregnant and think that Adderall might be the cause???

ok my brother was taking adderall for about 1 year I reali dont no what the milliagrams where but i do no they where orange pills not the capsuls. And about a month or so ago he actually said he thought he was having a heart attack so my g/ma took him to the hospital and the doc said it wasnt a heart attack but it was hypertentsion or something like that. Also if he started playin a game or anything it was like everything else disapeared.I swear when he was playin a game watching t.v or anything else it was like talking to a brick wall.He also was up for days and wouldnt eat anything he lost like 30pounds when he actually needed to gain 30 pounds to begin with.A couple of times he didnt take it and he would sleep and eat ALOT.But after he had his (what he thought heart attack) he quit taking it and it has been about 2 months now and i feel as if he is doing so much better now.The first month he was off it tho he as i mentioned earlier ate and sleep ALOT and had extrem mood swings. He was also very depressed. Was that from the adderall?

I'm 22 years old and I've been prescribed Adderall XR 20 mg for about 6 months now. Adderall XR has made me have insane mood swings to the point where I want to throw things and I flip out. When I get upset about something, it turns into WWIII and I can't control myself. I've also been very depressed. It does help me focus. It has helped me tremendously with school and work.Is there anything else I can take? Stratera doesn't work for me. Also, I'm afraid I'm going to gain weight and lose focus if I get off Adderall.

Hi,

To the first poster: bbk I had the same problem. I've been on Adderall-the regular kind, not XR-since my ADD diagnosis in June.

Whenever I start an SSRI: Prozac, Zoloft, Effexor, Lexapro, my Adderall stops working. I get exhausted, brain fog, and I also get an insane appetite.

I've done some research and the explanations I've found are that SSRIs tend to increase your insulin and lower dopamine. Adderall is supposed to increase dopamine. Basically, the SSRI interferes with the Adderall.

In one appointment with my doctor (while I was on Prozac) he actually admitted that most SSRIs raise insulin, Prozac being worse than others. Guess that explains why my blood sugar was always in the 60s and I felt horrible no matter what I ate or did.

If you're already overweight and insulin resistant it will screw you up more than other people.

I'm currently trying to find an anti-depressant that works well with Adderall.

I have been taking the XR 30s for about 10 months. I get the right eye twitching, but this is just started recently. Also, the crash I experience in the late afternoon when I am coming home from work is unbearable. Before that, I was taking the generic Adderall tablets (they were blue) and they didn't work very well. Before that I was taking the peach Adderall (not XR) a couple a day that amounted to about 30 mgs and tht seem to work the best. I am going to ask my doctor to go back to those I think. You are correct, they do work in helping you to stay focused, but there do seem to be a lot of side effects. I did not get these side effects when I first started on the medicine.

My son is 10 years old and has been on Adderall XR for 2 years. About 6 months ago he started pulling his eyelashes out, they are all gone. He can't keep his hands away from his eyes. I am happy to have found the 2 others who have written about their hair pulling experiences. We are now in the process of finding another alternative medication or taking him off completely. I gave him a lower dose yesterday and I did not give him his medicine today and immediately he is better. What a relief for myself and most of all for him to know that he does not have to go through this anymore.

Sometimes with the adderall, I get super anxious and I tend to eat A LOT from sheer nervousness. It's almost an OCD feeling. I do have ADD and it does help a lot, especially at work, but the eating thing is so weird. When I temper the Adderall with a Klonopin, I feel much better. It just seems weird to me to be mixing an upper with a downer, but my doc tells me they work in different ways in the brain. I also get really hot with the adderall. Anyone else experience that. I'm always freezing cold, but not anymore. And, ladies, beware, it will mess with your periods somewhat. It can delay them before you get a gusher. Sorry to be so graphic, but that's been my experience.

I was prescribed Adderall 30mg tablets 3X's daily. Right from the beginning I found that the Adderall caused a very very annoying agitation to my throat. The only way I know how to describe the sensation is that it feels almost like I have phlemgm stuck in my throat,it causes me to almost continuously cough and gag so that I can clear my throat, but, nothing ever comes up!?? I'm wondering, could the Adderall be causing minor swelling or inflammation causing my throat to feel this way. If so, does anyone know of anything that would counteract this reaction?? I would hate to have to discontinue this medication as it helps me so much as far as staying focused. If anyone has any idea as to what I could do to make this bad reaction go away or to at least make it subside somewhat, I would be so grateful!!!!

I've been taking Adderall XR 30mg per day for two years. I've gained 20 pounds and feel terrible. My doctor keeps telling me he doesn't know why I'm gaining weight. That is making me feel even worse!!! Can anyone tell me what's going on??? I also take Wellburtin & Lexapro. Before I took any of these medications, I asked the doctor if I could gain weight from them. He told me that these particular drugs do not cause weight gain. The thing that's so frustrating is, I was put on these drugs for anxiety and depression (results of an abusive marriage). How can I begin to feel better about myself if I'm gaining lots of weight? That just kills it for me. Can anyone out there offer some advice? My doctor won't even let me take an appetite suppressant. I take Adderall in the A.M. If I want, I can go right back to bed and sleep again. I also get hunger pains about 2 hours later!!! Help!!

I have had really bad anxiety and panic disorder for a year now from being a former pot smoker. My doctor prescribed me adderall xr 20mg after I asked her to. I'm in college and I have a friend I go to school with who takes it. I found out about it from her and she gave me a few. When I took it I was fine. Even the come down wasn't as bad as what I am experiencing now. I took the first pill out of the bottle yesterday. The first 5 hours were great. I was focus on what I was doing and I had no anxiety or weird side affects what so ever. Around 2am I started feeling dizzy, fatigue, parts of my body was going numb, my limbs were getting weak and they hurt, i got massive migraines, chest pains, weird shots of pain that felt like lightning going up my spine to my neck, blurred vision, and my speech was slurred. I did not want to wake my parents up because I thought maybe i was just having a panic attack. My doctor put me on metadate prior to adderall and I had some panic disorders with it, but this was far worse. Then I realized that all of these horrible feelings couldn't be from anxiety. I usually just get the rapid heart beat, short breath, numbness due to hypertension, and chest pains. This was far worse! I felt like a thousand needles were poking into my chest, at time I felt so weak I thought I was going to faint, if I got up too fast I got dizzy spells and everything became a blur to me. I was so scared that I felt like I was going to die. I had read the papers given with the drug and it said to seek medical attention immediately with the symptoms that I had. I didn't want to do anything drastic like call 911, because thats what I did with the metadate and over time i felt fine, so instead I called the poison control hotline on the pamphlet. The woman over the phone said that what I was experiencing was normal and that everything only seems more intense because its late and i'm tired but I can't get any sleep. Her voice and assurance made me feel slightly better, but afterwards things just got worse. I don't understand why this drug had these effects on me when I took the same thing before with no problem! During that time I had anxiety as well, and I still did not have any issues. I love the fact that this drug helps me to remain focus, but the after affects are so horrible. Does anyone know if I can just sprinkle half of the pill in some food or something and I won't have these problems, or if there is something equivalent to adderall without those horrid side effect?

Question:
Can anyone describe differences between XR and regular, either from experience or medically speaking?

I was diagnosed add and prescribed about 10 months ago. The adderall worked immediately, no significant side effects. I mentioned it wore off before I was ready. I was prescribed 30XR and 15XR twice a day. I feel a little different than before, i have anxiety I didn't have before. Also, I do feel like if I skip a day, I took Nyquil, and I can't do anything except sit around.

Normal? is it the XR vs the normal? thanks for the comments

I've been taking addrerall since before it was prescribed to me. I abused it horribly for a while there, staying up 2 or 3 nights in a row. I also drank a bit and smoked pot almost daily.

Now, I have left the drinking and smoking and I am actually prescribed adderall XR. 30 mg in the morning. My 110lbs, male 5'6", has actually increased to 130lbs, which is more toward normal, good health.

I was concerned about dependency one or twice. I was an alcoholic at one point before ever taking this drug and I did not want that to happen again. So I stopped taking it for a few weeks.. and I just felt like a did before.. i would come home from work utterly drained and fatigued. I felt like it wasn't normal but I couldn't get past it. I just wanted to lay down. Stare at a wall for a while.

Adderall has helped me live a normal life, Gain wait, helped me get off my ass, and actually focus once I'm off of my ass. And whence I'm off my ass I still feel normal.. I can make a choice to lay back down or move forward.. Where as before I had no choice.

Look, if your kids start twitching and pulling their hair, losing weight, etc. then adderall is apparently not for them. If adderall makes you feel strange, abnormal, or whatever, consult your doctor or neurologist.

I have read many posts about Adderall XR side effects, and wondered if anyone has found another medicine that works better for them. My 12 year old daughter is taking 20mg/day of Adderall XR. It definitely helps her tremendously in focusing at school, but the side effects are just too much. (she has huge mood swings, verbal tics, compulsive hair plucking, etc.) We need an alternative ASAP. If you have something else that you recommend, please let me know. Thanks!

I was finally diagnosed with add last November. The doctor tried me on Straterra. It made me tired all the time and emotional. Next we tried Concerta. That made me agitated and irritable, So then we finally got around to adderall. It worked, yay! 10mg 3xday did nothing for me, so the next time I went to my pdoc I told her. So she upped my dosage to 20mg in the am, 10mg at noon, and 10mg in the pm. I did not understand this. I tried this for a few days and guess what? I did okay in the am, but the noon and pm dose were useless. So I took it upon myself to just go ahead and take 20mg 3xday. Only side effects were dry mouth and appetite reduction. I ran out a week early, but no biggie, I was prepared for the consequences,
So the next time, I see my pdoc (new one this time), I tell her what I'd done and I felt that 20mg 3xday was right for me. She recommended adderall xr30mg in the am and 20 regular adderall in the pm. I decided to go ahead and try it, figuring xr is the same stuff in a time released form.
Oh how wrong was I! Side effects started with headache, then drowsiness to the point I had to take a nap. I've been becoming more and more emotional and irritable since I've been taking it (2 weeks now).
Earlier tonight I had an episode that could have turned into a bad panic attack. Luckily, though, I got to my clonezapam before I got too far out of control.
I just don't understand how the (supposed) same drug in a different form could have such different side effects. I was going to continue with the xr, hoping the bad side effects would diminish in time, but after tonight, I think I will flush them.
Has anyone else had the same or similar experience?

WHY DID YOU TAKE THE 8 PILLS? WHAT HAPPEN TO YOU? ARE YOU PLANNING ON GETTING OFF? I AM ON ADERALL XR AS AN ADULT FOR ABOUT 5 YEARS NOW. I AM 34. I TAKE ONE 20 MG PILL A DAY AND HAVE HAD SOME CRAZY MOOD SWINGS. I FIGURED IT WAS MY AGE WITH NO KIDS. ONE GOOD THING IS THAT IT HAS HELPED ME CONCENTRATE AND IT HAS HELPED ME STAY THIN! ALTHOUGH, RECENTLY I HAVE BEEN GAINING WEIGHT. IM NOT SURE WHY, IM DOING THE SAME THINGS. I GAINED 10 LBS IN 3 MONTHS. I DID GO FROM ADDERALL TO ADDERALL XR, BUT MY DOCTOR HAS BEEN SWITCHING ME THE WHOLE TIME IVE BEEN TAKING IT. IVE ALSO HAD WEIRD STOMACH GURGLES AND STRANGE OTHER PROBLEMS WITH MY BUTT. NOT SURE IF THEY RELATE, BUT I REALLY AM JUST LOOKING FOR OTHERS WITH THE SAME ISSUES. THANKS.

I have taken adderall xr 30mg once a day for 4 years and have noticed many different emotional levels and behavioral changes. At only 20 i am starting to become concerned with my mental state as of now and in the future. I have experimented with the drug and found that i can take 8 30mg pills at once and survive it, not recommended at all.

My beautiful 11 year old daughter was on Adderall XR 20 mg per day for 4 years. After about 2 years she started to develop some minor facial tics. After 3 years the facial tics were worse along with severe head shaking and she also started to develop trichotillomania (obsessive compulsive hair pulling). The hair pulling continued until she was almost bald. Her grades began to drop and she withdrew herself from her friends and family. Finally, we took her off the medication in October 2007 at age 12 and she immediately stopped the tics and hair pulling. We have found 3 other families whose daughters have developed these same symptoms after being on this medication for at least 2 years. We have filed a report with the FDA as our own doctor had no idea that this medication was causing the hair pulling. Now 5 months later her hair is growing and the tics are approximately 97% gone. We have taken her to a homeopathic doctor and she is doing absolutely great now. Marks have gone up and she is smiling and socializing. I am so happy we have our daughter back. The side effects of this drug was definitely not work it.

My daughter was recently changed to Adderall XR 10mg. She takes one pill in the morning. Her pupils are staying dilated, she is emotional at times, very clingy to me (to the point I'm having to sleep in bed with her), and weight loss. We switched her to this due to lack of appetite, but she is still losing weight. I'm giving it another week and if I don't see some positive changes then she's coming off of it. She only needs help focusing. It breaks my heart to see her this way!

I take Adderall NON xr 20mg with Lexapro 20 mg. I have general anxiety disorder so sometimes I get that chest tightness or the lump in throat feeling and it being hard to breathe but it usually went away when I took an Ativan. The Lexapro just seemed to stop working for me and my depression was bad and so we decided to add Adderall in because it made me more clear minded, hopeful, happy, and balanced. the only problem is, after about 4 or 5 hours I feel a "comedown" from this and it's completely horrible. I start to get very edgy and irritated, I lose my focus and feel kind of light headed and headache, I get tired but cannot sleep, my chest tightness and anxiety comes back pretty bad, and I get goosebumps and my back and neck tense up. I love how it makes me feel during the first 4 or 5 hours but once it starts wearing off the come down is just so awful I'm not sure what to do. i do take 1 Ativan before bed and that helps me sleep. I heard that I may need to take another 10mg of Adderall around 1 or 2 to give me a boost and sustain my balance and focus and all the good things about this medication. Does this actually work? Or do I just need to up my dosage? I understand that Adderall enhances anxiety in general so it makes sense but I wonder why I don't get anxiety when I first take it, but it seems to come on after the medication is starting to wear off.

I have been taking Adderall xr for a while now. and every time either run out of it or don't take it for a few days, and then start up, the end of my tongue gets very red, raw, and sore, my throat is also sore and has a burning feeling to it. Is this related and if it is would Ritalin be a better choice.

my six year old has been on Adderall xr 10mg for about two months. He gets so upset!!!!! very easy then he cries. He cries so hard sometimes he cant even breath. In school he is doing great still behind academically. He is seeing a neurologist next month to see about a learning disability until then I am very concerned about him getting so up set and crying He even said he didn't think I loved him. That just broke my heart. Before the Meds he had never been like this. As soon as as I held him he calmed right down. I also have a 9yr old that takes 15mg. He suffered a severe Brain injury this past July of 2007 The med is working well with him his Focus. He injured the frontal lobe and right and left side of the brain. If he gets upset it is a bit different too I am assuming it is more the injury I am not sure He is definitely not like my six yr old. They both do have a hard time settling down for bed time at night the DR said that was a big side affect and prescribed them both Melatonin 1 hour before bed that seems to help. s any suggestions I am open.

just started taking Adderall, though i am not prescribed. I went to my doctor and asked for it but she said no. I explained that I am often overwhelmed at work, I am a case manager and keeping on task with all of the work is hard. My doctor said when she was in med school, med students used to take it for that purpose. So anyway i bought 5 pills from a coworker. I seem to have super human energy, get all types of work done and stay focused all day. On the down side, in 5 days I have lost 3lbs., I want to lose weight, but not that fast. I have what I consider to be Adderall hangovers the next day, where I am extremely tired. I also have noticed severe headaches, every day that I have taken it, I crash by the end of the day at work and cant wait to get home, because I am so tired. My neck aches, and I had to change to a firmer chair at work, because all of a sudden my back is killing me, I also get insomnia and have to counteract the Aderall with Tylenol pm just to get to sleep. These side effects freak me out, and I don't know if I want to again ask my doctor for a script, but I get so much done at work, and I am heading back for grad school, I just don't know what to do? oh yeah, the pills that I bought were Adderall XR 30 mg.

I'm 17 I am not prescribed but I use to take it to help me focus. I moved with my mom and stop taking all of Adderall. I couldn't seem to focus everything distracted me. I bought some of a kid for 2$ each got 10. Bout 30 minutes of taking it I felt great and got everything done. Took 1 20 mg every day for the 10 that I had bought. dropped weight rapidly. about 7 pounds in like 3 days. couldn't seem to eat. Now my heart is pounding. I m afraid to get prescribed but I really need it. My grades went up tremendously. but when it wears off I feel pissed, and extremely tired. It also helps within people. I seem not to give a *** and I have a pretty good day. Right now tho I don't seem to feel that it is working. I'm also trying to lose some lbs ne ways for weight competitions and it helps but I am not trying to lose muscle. I just don't remember any of these symptoms when I was on it in 9th and now I am a senior?

My side effects:

jittery
mood swings
cant seem to be still
very focused
cannot sleep at all
* does it speed your metabolism up? and will it hurt my heart?

I hated this medication. I had been on Dexedrine for 1 year and Adderall XR was given to me by a new doctor to try instead. I was told this medication was the same, but it was a world of difference when it came to things such as insomnia. The worst insomnia I have ever had. Not to mention the severe panic attacks, shifting eyes that could not focus. I could not be focused enough on anything very long. I kept trying to do multiple things at once and would find myself asking what was I doing. I became extremely agitated and angered very easily. I mood could shift as fast as snapping your fingers. My right eye begun to twitch and would become worse and tear when I was more tired, but would not be able to relieve it without shutting my eye because I suffered from such horrible insomnia.
I would not advise this medication to any one that has a mood disorder because it seems to make the mood swings skyrocket through the roof and that can end up being a terrible mistake.

I remember, 4th grade when I got glasses and could actually see what everyone else saw, I couldn't believe how blind I was. This is the way I felt when I tried adderall for the first time. It was givin to me my senior year by a friend who was diagnosed with adhd. It gave me a feeling like I could accomplish anything. I seemed to be on top of everything. Growing up my mother always forced me to go to the clinic, because there was something "not right" with me. I hated all the medicines, especially zoloft. About my 8th grade year was when I rebelled, and stopped taking it. High School went decent, I made it, My favorite subjects were and still are art and music. Once I was introduced to adderall senior year I couldnt get over the fact that maybe my mom was right, I tried it a few other times over the next year in college and it seemed to help emensly, It felt as though I was quicker in my thought process. Problem was I wasnt perscribed and I felt I should go talk to a physician. I went in, sat down, said I have problems focusing and that was it. I was out the door with the perscription. I went to the pharmacy, ten minutes later I get a bottle that says Amphetimine Salts.... which kinda bothered me. So I took 10 mg a day for a month then 20mg the next month, over this time period I noticed that I started looking forward to taking it every day and having dry mouth. I also drank more soda then usual which was odd. I wanted to tell my physician but I didnt in fear of being pulled off the medicine and felt the benifits out weighed the the dry mouth. The 3rd month was where things got worse, I would take it before work have an awesome day and be worn out after, and then I come home and stare at all of my homework. Tired and tempted by the bottle on my dressor, I started abusing it. I would say "ok only this time", yet It seemed like I always got put in a bind and gave in. I started to notice a little bit of teeth grinding but not to bad. Now currently as of tonight I no longer will take adderall, because I saw myself in the mirror, I have a cracked tooth after 4 months of taking it. I brush and floss regularly everyday. Its not to big of a crack but big enough to have opened my eyes. I dumped all my my perscribtion down the garbage disposal, and all I want to say is parents be careful and adults be responsible and that sometimes its ok not to see or be "not right" and drop this medicine if you experience any of this.

I have been taking adderall for over a year, but for about 10 months ago, I started taking wellbutrin also and since have had chronic problems with my ears, It's actually getting worse. Not so much ear infections, but the pressure is actually pushing inward. So i feel light headed just funky all day. Kind of like a head cold without the cold. I can't figure out which one is causing (i think wellbutrin) since that's when it began. But it could be the combination. Just wanted to know if anyone else is experiencing this. I am 35 female.
thanks pam

Mydaughter is 8 and in second grade. She has been diagnosed with adhd. We have been taking adderall xr for about a month and a half. While the school day goes well for her, the afternoons and ugly for us. She is very agitated, cries for nothing and irratic for about 1-2 hours. We also have a hard time getting her to sleep. Her doctor prescribed Lunesta 1 mg, but it takes a long time for her to go to sleep. We start around 9:00 or10:00 and it takes a good 1 1/2 hours to get her to go to sleep. She does not sleep thru the night either and has never been a good sleeper. ALong with this add she also has hydrocephalus. While this works great for her attention problem in school, it is very exhausting for me in knowing how to handle her moods, outbursts and the sleep issues. Any advice on either? Thank you

I get intense headaches and neck aches when I take Adderallxr and Adderall (i have tried both). when i stop taking it, after 2-3 days the head aches are gone, and the neck aches greatly diminished. However, I also take Isosorbide - a long acting nitrate like nitro glycerine. I have discovered that the two probably interact. if i stop the isosorbide, the headaches and neckaches are at a much lower level. I have found that relaxation techniquies help lower the neck pain and headaches also. I suspect that Adderallxr makes one more susceptible to anxiety (of which i have a lot right now due to challenges in job).

I also have trouble sleeping. I will try orange juice an hour before I go to bed to see if that helps.

When i get the dose right, Adderallxr is great. I am much more focused, calmer, and get a lot more priority things done. I wish I had known about ADD 40 years ago. I will somehow figure out the right dose and how to diminish the side affects. The benefits are too good for me to quit taking Adderallxr.
