Advair HFA and acne

Advair is horrible. Got acne and started developing stretchmarks,

I am 58 year old female. I developed asthma last summer and the Dr put me on Advair. Recently, I have developed acne and my voice is very hoarse. I have a lot of trouble speaking and being understood. I had no idea Adviar caused this reaction in people. Co-incidentally, I went on the Nutrisystem Diet in July and have not experienced any weight gain.

I am concerned about the hoarsness and am considering not taking the Advair. I also have a strength problem and shortness of breath several times a day. I don't know if it's related to the Advair or just the asthma symptoms.

While Advair seems to be the only thing that will control my symptoms, It does give me quite a few irritating side effects. When I am on it, I develop red blothches on my face...looks like acne. I also get a tingling feeling at the tips of my fingers and increased eye pressure that my eye doctor has to monitor. I also tend to put on weight when I am taking this. I wish there was something else that worked for me....I've tried them all!

i'm male 30, had asthma since i was 2, tried about every inhaler and pill you can think of. anyway march 2006, started taking advair, it helped alot,i was able to play sports again and even outlast alot of people, the only thing was it made weak in the strength department and my balance was off.

i also expreienced what alot of people here are saying, about weight gain, moon face, acid reflux, not wanting meat, acne, hoarsness, sinus infection, belly getting bigger.

i got off it about 2 months ago in june due to a back injury, i believe the advair caused me to get the back injury.

the back is better now, but since being off advair i can't walk up stairs without taking a break. but my skin is alot better and i lost 10-15 pounds just being off of advair.

right now i'm trying to find an alternative, so far vitamins are helping a little bit.

I'm 24 year old female, and I've been using Advair for about 3 weeks now, and have used it for a month at a time previously in the past. I remember that it always seems to help at first, give me more energy, and making my running better (I was a competitive runner in college and developed asthma as an adult), but after about a two week period, the medication actually seems to stop helping, and instead I start getting chest tightness, severe acid reflux, naseau, headaches and muscle fatigue. I've also had incredible sleeplessness, excitability and restlessness, and rather significant weight loss, which at first I attributed to running more (and I'm sure its a combination), but I think the restlessness is to blame for a lot of it.

Additionally, despite rinsing, my voice is hoarse, my mouth always tastes bad, and I have to swallow or drink liquids all the time. My ezxema has gotten much worse, and I've developed acne on the sides of my face, which hasn't happened in years.

I thought maybe I was losing my mind, but this site has made my fears seem quite reasonable.

I have been on Advair almost a month, and actually went this past month without an upper respiratory tract infection. But, I have horrible acne now, so I am coming off of it, after finally figuring out the med is the cause. I also have been having trouble clearing my throat, and severe chest pains. I just don't think this med is worth it anymore. Thank you to everyone for posting your experiences b/c they have really helped!!

I HAVE COPD AND MILD ASTHMA AND HAVE BEEN ON ADVAIR 250/50 FOR ABOUT 4MONTHS I HAVE HAD THE ACNE, WEIGHT GAIN, HEADACHES, VOMITING, STOMACH CRAMPS, MOOD SWINGS, RESTLESSNESS, AND JUST FOUND OUT TODAY THAT I SHOULD HAVE ALREADY BEEN BACK TO THE DR AND WILL BE GOING TODAY FOR ITCHING AND HIVES WHICH I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING DAILY. IF YOU DO EXPERIENCE HIVES YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY.

I have been taking Advair 500/50 and have found that aside from the weight gain, acne and phelgm in throat I also find that I have been getting dizzy and my gums are ultra sensitive. Is anyone else experiencing dizziness or sensitivity in the gums?

In response to Tessa and the lady with the little girl, I too experienced a sore throat over the last month and I can say the acne is starting to fade away (I am happee41 from previuos entry). The sore throat was most noticable during the first week of taking Advair, additionally; it seemed that I got worse with my allergies. My dosage was Advair 250. As stated in my earlier entry, I think I was misdiagnosed. However, I have added natural foods to my diet, i.e. soy, sunflower seeds, vitamin E and fish oil supplements. I'm also not feeling fatigued and I can finsih my workouts now. I am trying the alternative route in the hopes that asthma symptoms do not reappear. It's only been 8 days and so far so good.

1 month on Advair 250/50 and I'm starting to feel hoarse. I wake up every morning with a dry throat, and I still don't feel 100% in regards to my asthma. No acne or other problems so far, so I'll just stay the course and hope for the best.

Im experiencing disgusting ACNE THE LIKES OF WHICH i NEVER HAD BEFORE.... it started when I began taking advair 250.
I am wondering what is the root cause of this bloody and embarrassing effect.

I've been on Advair for less than one month (22 days exactly), but have experienced several side effects noted here, i.e. acne, fluttering hearbeat. I also noticed a slight wieght gain of 4-5 pounds in 2 short weeks. Needless to say, I have taken my last does as of today. I also think I was misdiagnosed with asthma. I suffer from mild allergies and hindsight tells me I had contracted viral bronchtis, which can mimic asthma symptoms. I have since changed my diet to more natural and minimally processed foods and I feel great (outside of the Advair side effects). I rarely get sick, but this last bout of illness has made me realize that you have to be wary of misdiagnosis and doctors pushing new medications of which knowledge of long-term effects is nil. I've changed my primary doctor as well (I wasn't surprised to find a low rating score by current and past patients, which means I should have shopped around first like any good consumer).

Moodiness, I have become short tempered.
Also, terrible acne. Just awful. I'm 35, look like I'm going through puberty again!

chest pains and acne

Advair caused me to have severe joint pain in my knees and hips. It was as though i had severe arthritis. There was also a severe pressure feeling behind my knee caps I had bad headaches, acne, sharp chest pain and was seriously irritable.I realized it was the advair after i had been off of it for several weeks due to losing our health insurance all my symptoms went away and returned three days after starting the advair 250/50 again.

I am 29 and recently developed asthma like symptoms - wheezing and tight chest- 2 months after i quit smoking, and my doc put me on this. I am on my 3rd 250 mg discus of Advair (not including the 2 week sample discus) and have a couple of the side effects as described in other entries - a lot of acne on my forehead and cheeks, sides of my face... very rash like. I haven't had acne since i was 15. Also, none of my pants fit me in the waist, but they do in the thighs and butt - i also FEEL extremely bloated. Finally, i also have aching joints, particulary back, and have started stretching religiously, but still ache a ton. My sense of smell is just recently totally messed up - smells other ppl love i am grossed out by!! 2 weeks ago i started excercising daily and eating NO sweets and no junk, and my acne is not so greasy but just a steady bumpy surface to my facial skin. I too have been on Advair for 6 months and gained about 20 lbs, despite working out at the gym and dieting. I have been on it for approximately two years and hoping to see the Dr. next week to supplement this drug and get off of it! Although it helps my breathing tremendously, I have terrible acne, weight gain, and wondering if it is making my hair somewhat thinner. I am on 100/50. One year ago I was on the 500 dose and experience chronic horseness along with thrush on tongue and throat. Does anyone know of an alternative to this drug for asthma? Thanks!

I ahev been taking advair for 2+ years on and off when I was sick for chronic bronchitis and asthma. Within the last 4 months I have been on either the 500mg or 250 strength... I have gained over 30# in 3 months time and have a huge belly! I have not changed lifestyle to have gained so much weight. I kept joking marriage did it to me as I am a newly wed. Someone told me they quit the advair as they gained so much weight. SO I stopped cold turkey afraid my asthma would get worse. While taking it routinely I was having to use my rescue inhaler daily plus use of the nebulixer when at home. I have not had an attack since i went off the advair!!!! I also had severe leg pains/ aching. When we took a trip my legs and feet had 3+ pitting edema! All the edema has gone done. I have bene advair free for one week now. I was alos getting pimple like sores on my back and I never had acne or skin problems in my life not even as a teen ager.

My 11 yr. old daughter does not have asthma yet was put on advair 250/50 because she wheezes everytime she gets a respiratory infection. She is now recovering from the sinus infection that put her on this medicine. She has been on this medicine for 1 week and a day, her last day. Her side effects include...

1. fatigue
2. heartburn
3. mood swings
4. depression
5. acne and red splotches on her face
6. headaches
7. bloody noses (both nostrils at same time)

All this after only one week. She has taken her last dose.
By the way, 2 days after her doc put her on an antibiotic for the sinus infection, no wheezing. She only wheezes when she is sick.... How does advair prevent that? Does it stop her from contracting viruses, I don't think so. New doctor? I think so!

Started taking Advair this past May. Initially I was on the Advair 500, then was lowered down to the 250 about a month later. The Advair definitely seemed to help prevent asthma attacks. For the first time in years I was able to sleep through the night without having to use any sort of medication (had been using Primatine Mist every night, then was prescribed Albuterol in May). Then in early June I began to notice that I was my voice was constantly hoarse and that I was always having some throat irritation. Got to the point where the hoarseness was so severe that I was unable to speak for several days. Even dropping down to the Advair 250 dosage has failed to prevent the constant hoarseness. Have now stopped taking the Advair. Last used my Advair diskus two weeks ago and will never use it again, based on some of the reports I'm reading on here. Also have been getting strange, red, acne-like bumps on my upper arms for the past month and suspect it may be Advair-related.

I just got off Advair after being on it for 2 years.
Upon my perscription, I was told there are "zero side effects". (That is probably true of every drug upon its initial release.)
I didn't take note of my side effects for the most part - wt. gain, acne, depression - writing them off on my transitioning to college. I also noticed that my hair was thinning. I had almost two years of not being able to control my skin. I tried three different dermatologists, but nothing would clear up my acne, especially on my forehead. I was about to start Accutane, and upon studying its (horrifying) side effects, my curiosity led me to research Advair as well. This is when the pieces of the puzzle came together.
Testimony after testimony described my exact condition.
I immediatedly stopped taking Advair. A week later I had lost 10 pounds due to a decrease in appetite, my hair began to thicken back up, my skin was glowing, and I was distinctly happier in general. I felt and still feel like a new person. I love life more, cry much less, and repeat that I am much happier, and no longer depressed. The first week I had some difficulty breathing, but was so elated to have my skin, hair, figure, and mental state back that I didn't care in the least.
I regret wasting so much time on Advair. I wish only that the drug get the reputation that it deserves.

Even though it works amazingly to control my asthma I have suffered from insomnia, exhaustion, acne, mood swings,and a significant weight gain. I work out like a crazy person and live on lettuce and am still gaining. I was never told by my Dr of these side effects. I am at least relieved to know that I am not alone. I have been off Advair for only a couple days now and already feel a shift for the better in my health.

Read many of the postings and I am experiencing almost the same thing...weight gain of about 15 lbs, the little bumps like acne on my face(not sure what that is) and occasional muscle/joint pain. The Advair really helps me breath much better than I used to but the side effects are awful. If anyone knows of an alternative medication that works with a lesser degree of side effects, please let me know.
