My 12 year old has asthma and has good and bad years. Her asthma seems to be linked with the amount of flu/cold/viral infections she gets in any given year. This past year she has had strep, viral infection, sinusitis, and several viral infections consecutively. She has been hospitalized for masks and has taken 3 course of antibiotics, Prednisone, ventolin puffers, nasonex, and has recently been switched from flovent to advair. Since taking advair, she can't sleep, she has severe headaches every day, her vision is blurred, her asthma doesn't seem to be better, it seems worse, she loses her voice regularly and is up in the night crying because of pain in her throat.
I'm at my wits end as to what to do for her. This has disrupted our lives and she has missed a significant amount of school. She has currently no quality of life to speak of as she is always at home not feeling well.
I'm looking for some help.

I have had a cough for the past 3 weeks that I can't get rid of. At first Dr put me on antibiotics, which seemed to help a bit, but the cough is still lingering. Went back to Dr's yesterday. They gave me Advair. I took it once this morning and once this evening and I feel like I'm having a heart attack. I have the WORST pain in my chest and upper back that I've ever felt. I was fine before I took it so I assume that is my cause. I have thrown out this stuff and will NEVER use it again!

My wife ran a 102 fever in June while traveling.. Took her to emergency room. They said she had pneuomonia, gave her antibiotics and inhaler.
Follow up doctor said she had COPD and prescribed Advair 100.
Returned to home and visited Respiratory dr. He put her on predisone (8 down to 1 5mg tablet over a week) and 4 weeks of Advair 250. After 2 weeks she started running 102 fever, reduced to 99.6 with Ibuprofine. She is tired, has a bad dry chest cough and has had bad diahera. Will take her to Dr monday and have stopped using Advair.

I had a bad case of bronchitis that didn't clear up after the antibiotics. My new doc gave me advair and said I had undiagnosed asthma. I am getting BAD headaches- migraines. My eyes feel like they are going to pop right out of my head from the pressure and pain. I also have blurred vision when the headaches occur. I've only been using it for about 9 days and I'm going to stop after reading the other posts on this site. It seems that compared to other users I'm getting off rather easy.

It's been 2 more months off of Advair. The mouth sores are gone, but the productive cough is not gone. I have gone through 4 different antibiotics to get rid of sinus infections and still the green mucus coughing spells. I went to the hospital and blood count was high white blood cell count. Saw an ENT and he did cat scan and sinus probe. Nothing. He said he cant help me the damage is in the lungs. I wish I had never inhaled Advair.

Reading all the messages on this site has been helpful. I've been on Advair for a couple years and have had leg cramps on-and-off. I never thought about them being related to Advair. Many years ago, I had colon surgery (Koch Pouch). I never had any problems for 15 years. However, during the past two years, I've had one inflammation after another and have been on antibiotics more than I like. I'm going to discontinue Advair and see if it makes a difference. Thanks for all the information you provided here. If going off helps, I'll post again.

I have been Advair free for 8 weeks now.
I feel I am on the right track. My skin has improved greatly.
I am working on all natural remedies now and concentrating on losing the belly!
I'm starting a 6 week diet plan recommended for candiasis, which I'm sure a have this overgrown yeast, having been on steriods (the Advair)and antibiotics at least 3 times this year.
I'm recommending the following:
1) www.wholeapproach.com and look at symptoms of Candida and also their diet plan to kill the yeast.
2) www.earthclinic.com/CURES/candida.html and read about Jan's journey into curing her candida. It's very good.
3) I'm exploring the benefits of hydrogen peroxide therapy using a food grade 35% hydrogen peroxide. You might surf the web about this. I had to order the peroxide but am not going to start the suggested therapy until next week.
I'm hoping to report some good results in about 4-5 weeks; if you don't hear from me I overdid it!

I've been using Advair 250/50 for about 4 years now. I never had any trouble with it until this year. My throat is so irritated all the time. One way to avoid thrush is to rinse your mouth 2 or 3 times after using the Advair. I have always done this, but lately my throat is really irritated. Went to ENT and after scoping my throat he said everything looked fine...put me on antibiotics for a week, but did not help. I believe it's the Advair. There are some good natural remedies out there to help with throat irritation. Look in a health food or whole foods store.

I've been off Advair for almost 6 weeks now. Use Albuterol as needed. Had been on Advair for 2 years. Breathing was wonderful.
Red/purple bruising on arms and tissue thin skin was major problem. Applying Retin A (Trentoin) twice daily has helped to rebuild the collagen. Still bruise, but not nearly as much.
Has anyone had problems with infections? Mainly staff. I have had to go on antibiotics almost constantly the last 2 years. Seems my immune system can't handle anything anymore.
Going to try a detox diet and try to get all these chemicals out of my system.

To everyone who thought they were experiencing heartburn after taking Advair:
I experienced what I thought was heartburn, but as it turns out is was a really bad throat infection that spread throughout my body. I'm on Amoxycillin right now, and it seems to be doing the trick. It started as "heartburn," then a pain in my throat on the right side, and numbness, dizziness and nausea. After starting the Amoxycillin this past Friday, the pain in my throat subsided yesterday morning, and now the heartburn feeling is back, but that's subsiding as well. It's like the infection is retreating from the antibiotics and will hopefully be gone by the end of the week. After almost three months of freaking out, it looks like I've finally got a cure!
I hope this helps all who are experiencing the "heartburn" feeling. Demand antibiotics. You know your body better than anyone.

I really don't know if Advair (or leaving Advair) is causing my symptoms. I was on Advair for 2 years (on and off for allergic asthma) and the only side effect that I had was weight gain. I started to get slight rash on my face that wouldn't go away in Sept. 04 so I stopped taking the Advair sometime around the end of the month. The second week of October I was very stressed for several days and ended up getting a fungal infection of the mouth. The doc gave me antibiotics and it cleared up. I got another mouth fungal infection on November 9 and it hasn't cleared up yet. Could this possibly still be from Advair use? I am very worried and don't know where else to look.

I have been using Advair 500 for 11 days. It was prescribed for asthma, which I have never had before. I was diagnosed with walking pneumonia in April and then concurrent with the pneumonia - asthma. I have been to two asthma/allergy specialists recently. One wanted to keep treating me with antibiotics and I said no. The second specialist prescribed the Advair. I immediately felt better...wheezing was gone inside of a week - completely. I am supposed to use the 500 for a month and then go to the 250. While I haven't gained any weight, I am unable to sleep, feel warm all the time, and am experiencing migraine type headaches, and neck pain. I've read some of the posts here and I am concerned that I've read about people stopping the Advair. Shouldn't one be weaned off the Advair like other steroids such as prednisone??? This is all very new to me and I just haven't felt well in over 2 months...want to get over it and get on with life. Thank you!!!

i was prescribed advair by my allergist a little over 3 months ago. I not only developed an upper respiratory infection that won't go away but my voice has changed dramatically. i believe it is known as dysphonia. I have not responded to the two antibiotics, prednisone and antifungal drug that was prescribed. has anyone found anything that gets rid of these symptoms. my allergist has told me he can't help me anymore and i need a second opinion. he is the one who prescribed all of it in the first place. help.

I'm 18 years old and I've been taking Advair (500) for about 4 years. I've had very persistant asthma my whole life and my Advair seems to save me from having to use my albuterol around 6 times a day. About 9 months ago i lost my voice for over 2 months. After that went away I had a break for about one month then around 6 months ago I developed what seems like a smokers cough yet I don't smoke. I just got a chest x-ray done and they said it was normal. They put me on steroids and antibiotics but it doesn't seem to be helping.
Could it be the Advair? I don't know that I can go without it even if it is. I want to get rid of this congestion in my lungs. I'm sick of coughing up mucus daily. Does anyone have any advice?
