Hi. I have been on Advair for about 2 years. I started at 100 level, had a bad cold in Jan. and went to 250. Got another cold and laryngitis in April and went to 500 level. The laryngitis went on for 7 weeks. I still have a raspy, rough voice, always clearing my throat. By chance, I decided to look up side effects of Advair. My gosh, I can't believe what I've seen here! I've put on 10 pounds since spring, have been going to voice therapy weekly since June. I have pain in my hips so bad it wakes me up every night. I've been eating ibuprophen like candy, along with Tylenol PM every night just so I can get to sleep. So, I've gone back to the 250 level that I had. So far, so good. I'm going to try to get off of this. My brother, also an asthmatic, began running last year. He has increased his lung capacity to the point where he no longer needs his flovent, just albuterol before running. A co-worker told me about a book he has, How to become a Former Asthmatic, that helped him come off steroids by following a series of breathing exercises that also increase lung capacity. Anyway, that's my plan of attack to get off Advair. Unfortunately, like the others, my asthma has never been in better control. I can even be around cats for the first time in my life. Life is full of choices. I choose to live without the side effects of Advair.

I am a singer and i'm concerned about the effect if any
advair will have on my voice. However, I've been coughing for years. I've taken Advair off and on for about the last 5
years. I was officially declared as having Ashma about 5 years ago. When the coughing gets out of hand, Advair seems to do the trick. I'm really pretty anxiouis about taking it consistently(I never have). I will take 2x a day when my
coughing is really bad. It was keeping me up at night,
and working was really difficult. I was truely wore out
every morning and it's impossible way to live--tired most all
the time and coughing your like I'm gonna cough up a lung.
I've never smoked in my life.

My co-worker have noticed that I'm coughing less and have asked me what medication I'm using. However, I don't sleep well at night, I mean it's really difficult for me to get to sleep. I'm very wakeful at night.
It's ether take Advair and no coughing, but it may be hours before I get to sleep. Has anyone else had this problem with not being able to sleep as a side effect of taking Advair?
I'm afraid if I don't stop coughing it will take a toll on my voice.
