Although I have asthma, I was in my physician's office for another purpose when the doctor noticed my cough. After listening to my breathing, she offered me samples of Advair Discus 100/50. "This will take care of that cough," she said.

Sure enough, the cough I'd had for 2 weeks disappeared completely after only the second dose. I thought I'd hit the medicinal jackpot!

Then came Advair day 3. I noticed that my heart rate was elevated constantly, even when I was lying down, and my blood pressure was higher than normal. I figured I was coming down with a cold.

On day 4, I awoke to the experience of having all of the muscles in my body feeling stiff 24/7. This is no exaggeration. And of all things, my lats (the muscles running down your sides starting at the armpit) were completely tensed at all times. It was one of the most unnatural and uncomfortable feelings I've ever had.

By day 5, my entire body was completely rigid. I had to chew gum all day just to release excess tension. I was growing more and more agitated by the minute. I wanted to take care of things that needed to be done (dishes, laundry, etc.) but found myself only able to read or watch TV.

On day 6, the fear began to set in. I was terribly anxious about something, but I had no idea what. Since my brain couldn't figure out why my body was literally in flight-or-flight mode 24 hours a day, it began parceling out all the angst to all of the small aspects of my life. I became unable to do anything because I was afraid of everything.

On day 7, my cough returned, and my mind went crazy. Fearing the worst, I told my husband that I was going completely out of my mind, but I had no idea why. We are 35, and have known each other since we were 14, and I have never seen such a look on his face. I told him we were going to have to get some kind of mental help immediately because I was ceasing to function at all.

On day 8, I'm still coughing, and still going out of my mind. I have to get on the computer to look up psychologists on my insurance company's website. I start the search, but then, a thought occurs to me. I opened a new tab and googled Advair and Anxiety. And there was the answer. I called my husband at work, and told him I was going off the Advair and why. He seemed skeptical, but thought I should definitely give the Advair a trial discontinuation.

Day 9, I wake up 24 hours after my last dose, and my cough is gone. I feel more relaxed than I have in days. Perhaps I am not going crazy after all.

It took about 4 days to go completely back to normal. According to my physician, the reaction I had was to the Salmeterol. I therefore should avoid any products containing any long acting beta-adrenoceptor agonist: Formoterol, Bambuterol, and sustained-release oral Salbutamol. I'm just glad I didn't end up institutionalized.

I am a part-time professional singer and attorney. I developed an odd cough-variant asthma this winter at age 42 -- it had scary breath shortness and wheezing plus lots of phlegm coughed up. I had never before had the shortness/wheezing/asthma, though I have always had allergies and occasional bronchitis following a cold. The asthma/allergy specialists put me on Advair 500 twice a day with each attack, plus an oral prednisone burst/short taper, nebulized (not just rescue inhaler) albuterol (beta 2 agonist), and antibiotics (a different one each time). I also take Claritin, Rhinocort and Astelin for my allergies. I had four attacks of asthma this winter that were treated this way; after the fourth, they put me on Advair 250 maintenance for a month. With each attack, I would get hoarse, have trouble sleeping, and get odd muscle cramps I never had had. The hoarseness was worse each time, but I was able to sing through it at my regular gigs. I attributed the side effects to the prednisone. With my fifth attack, they told me to ramp up the Advair to 500 and do all else the same, but as an experiment to see how this would alter those side effects, I decided to treat it with everything but the prednisone. The hoarseness, sleep trouble, and muscle cramps were all much worse. I found this site, noted the recommendation of several other singers to try Asmanex instead of Advair, and asked the docs about it. They agreed that all these symptoms could be related to the Advair and gave me Asmanex 250 twice/day instead instead of the Advair, plus all the other meds for the attack. The symptoms went away within a week, although it took a little longer for me to get over the asthma attack this time. I am extremely grateful to this site and all the users posting comments. I can sing again, sleep again, and exist without weird muscle cramps during treatment of my asthma. Thank you very much.

two years ago I had the pneumonia vaccine. Less than a year ago, I had a cold. .. and while taking Advil, my cold quickly turned into pneumonia and I had to go through two different antibiotics to get rid of it and this ended up going on for about 2 months to get free from it all. A real mess! By then I came off Advair as I thought it might be related to the reason I got Pneumonia!

A year later, I have a cough --getting over a cold - and my primary care doctor wants to put me back on Advair again. To be honest, I don't want to touch the stuff. I'm very sensitive to drugs. If they give me pain killers at the E.R., I am a "sinker". I know my doctor is trying to do the best, but I'm really hesitant about it! I think my cough will get better on its own..with my inhalers.. atrovent, etc. although it's constant. But I have a suspicion that Advair could have been a part of the reason I got pneumonia. Any ideas on any other help?

I just wanted to comment to all of you asthma sufferers. I grew up with bronchitis and my brother with asthma. We were always getting sick while young, about every 6 weeks. My nephew inherited asthma from my brother, and he had it very bad, was always getting sick, needing oxygen, etc. While in his teens, someone told him to start playing an instrument like the trumpet or trombone which really exercises your lungs. He started taking lessons in school and it didn't take very long at all to notice a remarkable difference. His other siblings would even get sick and he wouldn't! The exercise, being natural, is a far better and healthy prevention, and makes your lungs stronger. I can't believe doctors don't spread this amazingly helpful advice around. I'm VERY sure they must have heard this before. Wouldn't news like that spread like wildfire through the medical community? But they would probably lose some business!!! So I wanted to help pass it around. I hope it helps some of you!

I have been using Advair (250) for many years with no problems. We are remodeling out kitchen which has stirred up a lot of fine dust in the house. That coupled with the smoke caused by the recent forest fires in California I had a severe asthma attack. My doctor increased my Advair to 500. Within a week my voice left me. I have laryngitis of sorts and an accompanying cough that I can not shake. It has been nearly three weeks since it started and two weeks since I quite taking any Advair at all. How long does it take to recover from these symptoms after coming off Advair? I need my voice to function at work.
Secondarily, after reading about cramping being a part of people's symptoms, I have had cramps in my legs feet and toes for several years-mainly at night. Hopefully being off Advair will resolve that as well.

Been on Advair only a few months. MY mouth is on fire and I awake to my tongue almost sticking to the roof of my mouth. I never really had asthma but I started with a cough after a bad case of bronchitis. I started with Albuterol and the advair next.
I'm going to try to stop this because I'm sure that this is why I feel the way I do?
Has anyone else had problems with their mouth. Doesn't look like Thrush but it sure hurts.

I am very skeptical of all of the claims I have read here. I am no advocate of GSK or any other drug company for that matter, but I think people are getting carried away with attributing their symptoms to Advair. The known side-effects are readily available, anything else is purely based on assumption. I agree that Advair may in fact have many more possible adverse effects than they let the public know, but let us be careful about making ourselves little scientific researchers and concluding a causal relationship based upon a single case study (and an informal one at that). Talk to your doctor about trying something with less risk, such as Singulair, Azmacort, Intall, Fluticasone Propionate, etc. Please though, be careful not to be so quick to claim generalizable findings based on your specific case. I myself am going to work with my physician to attempt a gluten-free diet and a less invasive medication therapy. Advair is not habit-forming or addictive, so withdrawals are doubtful at best. Read up on the pharmacology of Advair (salmeterol in particular), and you can come to your own conclusions. Best wishes to all of you fellow asthmatics!

OMG, I was prescribed 100/50 Advair today at the Dr. I have a cough with some "wheezing" that is because of severe allergies. The Dr. and nurses were adamant that this was going to help me. I read all the literature before I went to try it, but was suspicious because there was no side effects section on the package insert. I entered "Advair side effects" in a search engine and this is the first site that came up.

BOY AM I GLAD that I never tried this stuff. I am going to throw it out right now. I won't ever try it, so glad I never did. I want to sleep tonight, and I already have trouble with anxiety, thanks anyway....all of you people can't be wrong!!!

I am currently taking advair and I feel horrible pain in my chest. I am having a hard time breathing and feel as though I am not gettin g enough oxygen to my brain. This is only my third or forth dose of advair. The really bad chest pain is when I cough. But I still feel the achiness without the cough. My muscles in my back hurt as though I have been lifting a ton of weights although I have done NO strenous activity. How long will this take to wear off?

Two weeks ago my Doctor put me back on Advair 500/50, My voice went hoarse immeditialy (still that way), I also started having headachs, unable to sleep, muscle pain, my blood pressure has increased and I have a rapid heart rate. The problem that drives me crazy is I have difficultly swallowing and I feel like someone is strangling me. I also have a bad cough and thick mucus that doesn't seem to end...not to mention mood swings and problems thinking.
I was previously on advair for years, stopped taking it cause I did not feel right. My Doctor remains firm in her option "advair has no side effects" and thinks I make this up...Wish I never started back on it and stopping using it today.

I can't believe all that I am reading. Thank you for your posting! I thought it was all in my head! The doctor prescribed me Advair 500 because I complained of a cough and have had pneumonias in the past. Doctor said it would help prevent the cough getting worst. I took for a few days and experience fast heart beat, chest pain and cramps in my lungs and hands. I also felt mad for no evident reason.Thought I was having a heart attack. I was scared to touch this stuff again and now that I read this, I am throwing it in the garbage!!! My cough as gotten worst since I stopped taking it but I trust there is better medication out there.

I have had a cough for the past 3 weeks that I can't get rid of. At first Dr put me on antibiotics, which seemed to help a bit, but the cough is still lingering. Went back to Dr's yesterday. They gave me Advair. I took it once this morning and once this evening and I feel like I'm having a heart attack. I have the WORST pain in my chest and upper back that I've ever felt. I was fine before I took it so I assume that is my cause. I have thrown out this stuff and will NEVER use it again!

I was a 2:42 marathoner. I used a synthetic varnish containing isocyanates, pentanedione, organic solvents, in one 7-hour session; the company-recommended respirator did not in fact prevent transmission: Severe chemically- induced asthma, plus neuropathy, plus, plus.

I've used Advair 500/50 for six years. There have been many diverse effects from the chemical exposure; I'd not questioned any being Advair side effects. But the raised blood pressure was not initial, and certainly not a priori. Diminished hearing, diminished eyesight, anxiety. Again, not to lump in, but these questions are new for me. But the point I'd like to bring before this group is this: In August I was diagnosed with ehlichiosis , and was prescribed 28 days on doxycycline. They recommend eliminating many possible antagonists to the doxycycline. My respiratory capacity had been continually diminishing. My ongoing physician said this was to be expected and recommended only the next more powerful steroid. Not a good solution. Before all this I was strong; repaired myself. In the absence of constructive answers, wondering if the Advair was weakening me, making me dependent, I quit the Advair as well on beginning the doxycycline. Today is eleven days post-doxycycline. Eight days ago there began with increasing severity, a terrible wracking deep cough producing dark yellow mucus. Painful. No fever. Grevious throat from the wracking, but I question whether this is a cold or infection. It's just in my lungs. Maybe it's as though I've thrown off an epithelial coating. These past two days the quantity of deep yellow mucus is not as ready, but the wracking and coughing is more severe. And my lung capacity, my respiratory capacity, is frighteningly diminished. Until these past two days I'd considered this an infection, especially post-doxy. But it doesn't feel like an infection. And I'm scared. Is this because I quit the Advair abruptly after long regular use? Have any of you had a similar experience. Can you discuss the effects of abruptly discontinuing Advair. Have you stayed off it. What's happened to your respiratory capacity. Have you any professional studies, trials or experience to recommend. Thanks.

I've always had problems with leg cramps but now, since I've started taking Advair, every muscle in my body cramps -- BADLY. So I'm done, I'm going to call the doctor Monday a.m. & tell him I've stopped the medication. I just thought it was a fluke and I was having a bad time (have done that), but since getting on here and seeing that other people have had this problem, I'm sure it's the Advair. Occassionally I've forgotten a dose & the cramps have gotten better. So now I'm putting 2/2 together. As much as Advair has helped my cough, it's put me in so much pain I can't get one hrs. sleep before I have to jump out of bed and try walking a cramp out, during the day my back, arms, hands, chest, stomach muscles are all cramping painfully while I'm trying to work.

I was put on Advair 500/50 about 2 monhs ago. I was in the mild asthma category. I use Albuterol as a rescue inhailer, and I have used Singulair for some time. A spoot showed on my lung. I then had a brochoscopy done, which showed that I had aspirated some vegetable matter. (I also have GERD). I developed a severe cough and could hardly walk, at first unable to raise much sputum, and had pleanty of audible heezing. Finally, I got put on MethylPrednisolne 4mg tablets (6 days). That took care of the asthmatic end. However, I still coughed pleanty, and could hardly move or take care of myself. I started coughing up huge amounts of pus looking sputum and also yellow-green sputum. My throat hurt, my ears hurt, and I was exhausted. I went to the ER, where they did a Chest X-Ray and a blood test. The next day, I went to my pulmonary specialist. I have pneumonia, and thrush, still couging up pleanty of stuff. I am on Nystatin for Thrush and Augmentin for infection, some other stuff for cough. I think that most of our doctors sincerely want to help us. However, this wining and dining of our doctors from the pharmeceutical companies has to stop!!! It is causing A LOT OF PROBLEMS FOR BOTH DOCTORS AND PATIENTS. I am still on the Advair. I would like to get off it.

I'm 35 and I've have had mild asthma since I was about 10 year old. At times I've been able to go weeks without needing to take anything, then stress, envirnoment triggers etc fire it up. I started taking advair 100/50 a couple of years back, and right now my breathing feels just about the worst it ever has. Without the advair I feel an uncomfortable tightness that I've never had before, a whole lot worse that the wheezing. Over the past couple of years I've lacked energy, been a lot more anxious and I've been warned of potential heart issues. I have a very healthy lifestyle and I assumed I was just getting older and more fragile...after reading these posts I'm seeing a possible connection.
Like some other people have said I sometimes feel like something is stuck in my throat / top of my lungs, it almost feels like phlegm but I can't cough it up.
I've stopped the advair for 3 days as of today, so far the tightness is managable, and the rescue inhaler is at hand (although I haven't had to use it yet). I'm hoping I can get back to previous drug free times.

I am 25, white male, and have been on and off assvair for two years. At first it worked well and I thought God himself had touched me with that little purple circle. However, I have all of the following symptoms that have gotten worse in the last year, they include:blurry eyesight, tired all the time, gained 40lbs, always clearing my throat, sometimes hoarse, cough all the time, wheeze all the time, hives and skin irritation, asthama has gotten much worse especially since going from 100 dosage to 250/50. I feel horrible and of course my doctor, or previous doctor, said it had nothing to do with the advair, so apparently I just went from being reasonably healthy to a walking 25 yr old senior citizen ready to make the final cross over to the other side. I hate assvair because at first it gave me hope and now it sucks balls!

I have what's known as cough equivalent asthma--on set as an adult. this is my first attack in about 3 years. I'm very unhappy with the Advair--the heart beating so quickly, the nausea and to top it all off IT'S NOT WORKING and neither is the albuterol. Today is my last day for the Advair. It's not even controlling my cough for minutes let alone hours or days. I'm losing my voice and will lose my part-time job because I don't have a voice. I can't hold a conversation without coughing it's making me dizzy and I'm tired because I can't sleep.

I am a singer and i'm concerned about the effect if any
advair will have on my voice. However, I've been coughing for years. I've taken Advair off and on for about the last 5
years. I was officially declared as having Ashma about 5 years ago. When the coughing gets out of hand, Advair seems to do the trick. I'm really pretty anxiouis about taking it consistently(I never have). I will take 2x a day when my
coughing is really bad. It was keeping me up at night,
and working was really difficult. I was truely wore out
every morning and it's impossible way to live--tired most all
the time and coughing your like I'm gonna cough up a lung.
I've never smoked in my life.

I've been taking Advair 2x a day for about two weeks,
and yes I don't go thru the night coughing. I'm still coughing some but as the medication gets in my system I'm really coughing much, much less. My co-worker have noticed that I'm coughing less and have asked me what medication I'm using. However, I don't sleep well at night, I mean it's really difficult for me to get to sleep. I'm very wakeful at night.
It's ether take Advair and no coughing, but it may be hours before I get to sleep. Has anyone else had this problem with not being able to sleep as a side effect of taking Advair?
I'm afraid if I don't stop coughing it will take a toll on my voice.

I am sure glad that I found this site. I am a 58 year old male, I have been using Advair 500/50 for about 3 years but; I did not know there were side effects with this drug. I have COPD with approximately 15% of lung capacity left. Before starting on the Advair twice a day, I could walk app. 100ft before I got so out of breath. now I am lucky to be able to walk 10 ft. and even then I must rest and catch my breath. I have gained an enormous amount of weight, and at first with a change to my diet I would lose a couple of pounds, but; that was also with my cardiac rehab. The cough is getting much worse and I cough so hard I feel like I am going to pass out. I am nauseated, have no real taste for food anymore. It is hard to swallow even water. I get a sore throat and a lot of mucous and it has become at times very hard for me to speak. I have to speak slowly trying to form my words so they can be understood. I also have a heart condition, and was having real bad palpatations. Why I didn't know, I was hospitalized and was put on Warfain and Solatol which does help. I never would have associated any of these side effects if I had not read them here in this site, thank you for alerting me. I am at a loss as what to do, I am going to contact a lawyer, but; I still do not know if I should stop taking the Advair.

Interesting reading. I have not had the sore throat. I have not had weight gain, but neither have i been able to lose weight. I haven't had joint pain, but a defintie sensitivity to it.

I've been taking advair for a year. The thing i noticed was a sensitivity to existing allergies. So for instance, i've always been allergic to mold but the symptoms have been minor and they have reduced over time. Now i have a constant pulmanary response where i cough up yellow phlegm. I've decided to go back to the flovent inhaler and see if this solves my problems. i don't know if it will but the symptoms started when i started using the advair. I've also suffered from fatigue and my pituitary gland is being overworked. Right now, my theory is that my body is being stressed trying to handle the overreactions to allergens in my environment.
As for joint pain, for me it seems to be a digestive thing, but that doesn't mean the advair is not contributing to a digestive problem, that is then causing my joints to hurt.

I've been sick for many years. One thing i've learned is if your doctor isn't listening to you, then you need to find one who will. In our culture we place drs in a place of high authority and we are taught not to question that authority. It's your body, your health and your life. It is the drs responsibility to know the products they recommend and to listen to their patients. It's the patient's responsibility to question when things don't feel right and to help figure out the solutions. Some times they tell me what is wrong; some times i tell them what is wrong.

I was put on Advair for extreme allergic reaction. I was coughing every night ( and it goot worse and I would cough days) and my lungs would fill up. I was tested for allergies and I came up allergic to EVERYTHING.

Recently I found out that I had roundworms ( intestinal parasites). The life cycle of the roundworm : egg is ingested- hatches in stomach - micro worm goes to heart then travels to lungs. The worm is then coughed up and swallowed- where it goes to the intestine and grows.

Could this be my unexplained "allergic to everythng?". I am still on Advair- but I am experiencing extreme muscle and joint pain. I feel like I am held together by rotton rubber bands.

I just did the search today on ADvair and I came up withthis thread- and I wonder how many other people have have parasites causing their asthma symptoms?

My next feat is egttig off Advair which I am addicted to....

Check out Dr Hulda Clark for parasite flushes. I will do this as soon as I stop nursing my baby....

I started using Advair approx. 2 months ago in an attempt to get rid of a severe cough that I've had for over 25 years. I've tolerated it for this long, however, the cough has gotten worse as I've gotten older.

Although I very carefully rinsed my mouth my mouth out, as advised by my doctor, I developed a sore throat and almost fully lost my voice for almost 1 1/2 months now. The ears, nose and throat doctor has diagnosed me with a bad candida (yeast) infection in my throat and put me on diflucan and nystatin. He felt it was the Advair that caused this infection. After taking these medications for a little over a week I am slowly getting better, however, my cough is still there and possibly a bit worse from the infection and my throat is very raspy. I've also noticed moderate pain in my fingers and hands -- whether this is from the Advair, I am not sure, but it is coincidental to the timeframe I've been on it. However, I have also been on an nebulizer using albuterol so it's hard to tell which medications are causing which side effects.

In response to the person who's 6 year old daughter who was recently put on advair: my son is also 6 years old and was put on advair 3 weeks ago treat mild asthma. He suffers frequent coughing episodes when he is beginning a cold. His coughing has caused him to miss school frequently. Although the advair has kept him cough-free, he is suffering from nervousness, anxiety in school, exhibiting some obsesive behaviors, is moody and preoccupied. I am very concerned because he seems like a total different child. YES I agree with you. This seems more like a child with ADHD than asthma. I am taking him off of this medication NOW. I think even he is confused as to why he is struggling!!

I have been on Advair for almost 2 months. The first month I was on lowest dose and the second month on 500/50. I am prone to severe coughing mainly as a part of a cold or flu. I do cough ALOT with extreme emotions, when I get overheated and when I lie down. I went to the doctor and she stongly suspected Asthma. Even though I do smoke, my history of coughing as a child and my severe GERD is what made her lean towards Asthma. While in the process of getting referrals, x-rays, bloodwork she put me on Advair. With constant follows-ups,(every 2 wks) nothing was working and to make things worse I came down with some kind of flu. On the smallest dose of Advair the only thing that happened was a dry throat. After my flu was almost gone she increased my Advair.Amost immediatly I got the worst sore throat! My throat was on fire,my tastebuds on the back of my toungue were HUGE. My throat was so dry, I thought I was gonna choke on my own tongue. Then, within a day after that I was so hoarse I could hardly talk and the area where my voice box is, hurt and I was about to cough up a lung. At the same time I had a few small white dot's in the back of my mouth.....by the uvula. So I went back to my doctor. She tested me for strep and yeast both were negative! I left the office more puzzled and fustrated than ever. I continued for several days and then it came to me...."Could my asthma medicine be causing my problem?" The very next morning I quit all asthma medicine. It wasn't working anyway! Within 24 hrs I was 75% better! My voice box was still sore and my voice wasn't back all the way but loads better. By day three my voice was about 90% back and I could actually talk on the phone and yell at my five kids! LOLOL I think in my case Advair is not the answer and caused way more problems. I am do to visit the doc soon to see where I go from here. Has anyone had the same experience?

I am seventy years old, and have been on advair 250/50 for about a year. I have a bad cough since starting Advair, thick phlem, thrush in my throat. insomnia, terrible bone pain in both legs, cramps in my feet at any time of the day, chest pain, and just recently a compression fracture. I am taking Fosamax to help build bone, but the insert for Advair says,"may cause bone loss" I'm fighting a losing battle. Am now on 100/50 once a day. Hope to get off of Advair soon!!

It started as a cough... thought I had a cold but just cough continued until I lost my voice. I coughed so hard I thought it was something much more serious since my mother died of lung cancer. I have never smoked but got plenty of second-hand smoke. Doctor said it was allergy/asthma and prescribed Prednisone (7 day) and Advair. Prednisone is now gone but still have trouble with voice breaking up, some cough, and not leg cramps, stomach cramps and dizziness. I am on 250/50 and also prescribed and using Albuterol and Flonase. Thanks for this site and information. I will discontinue Advair and see the reaction. I am now not so worried. -Pamela-

I did not think I was having any problems with Advair until I read an article about side effects. I have many.....leg cramps, muscle aches, fungal infection in mouth, and more. The one I am curious about though I am not sure if it is related to Advair or not. I would really like some info. I quit smoking in March, 2005, after smoking for 39 years. Since I quit, I have noticed (more than before) that I still cough quite a lot. Most is very dry, hacking cough, but occasionally, I bring up some mucous from my lungs, and it is solid. If it was a very large piece of mucous, I would actually choke on it. Most are small but numerous. Any suggestions??
Thanks

My daughter has been on Advair 100 since October 2004 when she first developed asthma. She is 4 1/2 years old. She recently started a cough and our doctor increased her Advair to 500 until the cough goes away. Within 2 days of the increased dosage she has become very agitated, thrashing herself against us and furniture. She screams at the top of her lungs and will not cooperate with us. We have to hold her down and try to soothe her until these "fits" pass or she is exhausted. We took her off the 500 Advair after we related the fits to the increased dosage (these fits came before when her dosage was increased to 500). Within 24 hours of going back to the 100 Advair she has returned to our sweet, loving 4-year old. I'm glad I thought to check out this site and found that excitedness and nervousness are side effects of Advair.

Thank goodness for this site !

I am a 36 male living in Australia and was prescribed Advair(Seretide) 4 weeks ago to treat a asthma induced cough.
About a year ago I was diagnosed with high blood pressure and have scheduled visits to a cardiologist, the next one in a few weeks for an echocardiogram and follow up.

About 2 weeks after starting Advair I started having the following side effects:

Racing heart beart, dizziness & feeling faint, waking up with tingling in my hands at night, inability to sleep at night, anxiety/ nervousness.

Further side effects developed over the last few weeks:
hoarse, need to swallow, extreme anxiety and feelimg panicky.

Initially I put the symptoms down to stress and concern over the impending cardiologist visits.
But the situation worsened to the extent that last week I felt extreme distress at going to work.
I went to my GP who put it down to stress and referred to a pyschologist.
This site has been such a relief - thanks

MY 5 1/2 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER STARTED ON ADVAIR FOR HER WHEEZING. SHE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED WITH ASTHMA, THIS WAS JUST GOING TO HELP HER WITH HER COUGH AND WHEEZING. AFTER 4 DAYS OF THE ADVAIR DISKUS, HER MOOD CHANGED. SHE WAS EASILY UPSET, FRUSTRATED AND SOMETIMES REALLY QUIET.
SHE COULD NOT TELL ME WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS.. SHE DID NOT KNOW.
IT WAS THE ADVAIR. I HAVE SINCE TAKEN HER OFF FOR GOOD.

I have been on Advair 100/50 for over 2-1/2 years and it's the best thing I've ever taken. It increased my lung capacity 33.5% and I do not wake up at night with asthma attacks. I don't have to depend on my Albuterol for rescue all the time either. I took Azmacourt 4 times a day prior and constantly had shortness of breath and asthma issues. I've been very fortunate on Advair! I have not had insomnia, difficulty sleeping, no musle weakness, no heartburn, and no rashes. I have had slight weight gain, and managed to get it off. I have constant allergies and allergic rhinitis so I do get occasional headaches. I can actually take a deep breath and not cough my head off. I can actually run and workout now! I do get dry mouth but that's easy enough to deal overcome. I may be an exception but it's a blessing for me! I take Allegra too and it is the best thing I've taken too. Seldane is better but they took it off the market. So I guess it works for some! Thanks.

I was prescribed advair for chrinic cough with wheezing.

noticed the following in a few days after I started the medicine.

* Not able to concentrate at work.
* lower left abdomen pain
* heartburn. A burning sensation in my stamoch 2 hours after food. Only thing that would calm it down was Yoghurt.
* restless, no proper sleep.
* feeling obese
* dizzy

Very good effect on my coughing
I stopped the medicine and a lot of theabove went away. Stomach burn is still there. Yoghurt still helps a lot.

Our 4 year old son has been on this medication for 9 months. We have gradually taken him off it. Side effects: For the first couple of months, he seemed better. We then began noticing problems: difficulty sleeping, constantly agitated with increasingly aggresive behavior. Crying and saying, "my head hurts." He was coughing continuously, a loose, sloppy cough.

He has been off Advair for 3 weeks now. His peak flow is the same as when on Advair, the coughing has nearly stopped, and he is, once again, a kind and sweet boy.

My doctor gave me a 250 and then the 500 inhaler, not for athsma but just a bad cough and lung congestion. I have had a swollen throat/hoarseness since then (3 weeks ago). It cleared up my conjestion but I wake up at night choking and unable to breathe. Thank god for this website. I will not use this unhaler again.

Thank you for this site! I didn't want to take Advair when it was prescribed for me nearly two weeks ago. Not because I knew of the side-effects, but because with my family's history of cancer and heart disease, I tend to be very cautious with any type of steroid. However, I was having a bad cold combined with asthma (which I'm not normally prone to) and trouble breathing, and for two weeks, it seemed a compromise.

When I first started taking it, I noticed the rapid heartbeat, which has since lessened. However, I've noticed that my vision is now blurry, and has been such for the last few days. My cough, which was improving, is back, and now I feel nearly as short of breath as I did before starting the meds. As a matter of fact, last night, I had to sleep sitting up, my breathing was so bad.

This morning, I've noticed pain in the joints of my fingers, and there has been some weight gain (or at least abdominal swelling).

That's it for me, after reading this site. The Advair goes in the trash, and I go back to treating myself holisticly.

I'm sorry if this is more of a question than a list of side effects, but I am a desperate mother. My 13 year old and her 15 year old sister were both given Advair to start on Monday as a third attempt to treat a severe cough. The 13 year old has been sick ever since, vomiting and headache. It seems to worsen after she takes the Advair, although I didn't realize it until she became sick this morning and missed school for the second day in a row. My other daughter isn't having any problems. After looking up side effects and finding this page, I am sure it's the Advair that's making her so sick, and it scares me!

What do you think? I didn't see any references to anyone vomiting, but I don't know what else it could be.

I have been on Advair for severe COPD for 2 yrs now. In the beginning I was feeling great. I am off prednisone and hardly using my inhaler. After about 2 months I started having severe pain in my bones and muscles. Went to several rhuematologists for diagnosis. Rhuematoid arthiritis,
fibromylgia, Osteopenia and whatever else!I now have depression, memory problems, and a horrible cough, and having a lot of difficulty functioniong. At that time I contacted Glaxo and was told that they had no side effects. Now I am hearing all these side effects that people are having I think this does have to be reported.

I have had the cough from hell since I started Advair about two weeks ago. I mean an intense, violent, uncontrollable cough. Right at the back of my throat and down some. Major phlem production as well. I think it's time to try something else.

hello, i an a 62 yr old man. i was prescribed advair 250/50 two weeks ago(3-17-04) for wheezing problems and shortness of breath. after only a week, i started to experiance bad neck pains. muscle spasms in my neck and shoulders that were real bad!(the worst i have ever felt) i had to take pain medications to be able to just hold up my head. also my legs(calves) were so tight i could hardly walk. and my bad joints got even worse. i have had a cough since starting advair. even though i stopped taking advair after only 6 days, but i still have a cough, and a sore neck, though my neck is not as bad as it was. i was never told that this(advair) was a steroid drug. i will never take another dose of this drug. it has made the last two weeks miserable!
