I have been using Advair (250) for many years with no problems. We are remodeling out kitchen which has stirred up a lot of fine dust in the house. That coupled with the smoke caused by the recent forest fires in California I had a severe asthma attack. My doctor increased my Advair to 500. Within a week my voice left me. I have laryngitis of sorts and an accompanying cough that I can not shake. It has been nearly three weeks since it started and two weeks since I quite taking any Advair at all. How long does it take to recover from these symptoms after coming off Advair? I need my voice to function at work.
Secondarily, after reading about cramping being a part of people's symptoms, I have had cramps in my legs feet and toes for several years-mainly at night. Hopefully being off Advair will resolve that as well.

I have been on advair for about 4 years didn't know till reading all of this that it could be the cause! My doctor urged me to not stop taking it! I have stopped about a week ago now my symptoms are worse than ever! But I hope will subside! I have recently developed the foggy head, changes in my lugs , chest pain, anxiety panic attacks heavy breathing worse asthma attacks I am 31 and also have osteoporosis now do not know if it is because of this and they think I my have copd I also have infections now that last forever can't concentrate etc. and I have 3 kids and a full time job had 2 take off 2 months! Do not know if I will ever be normal again I hope so! Too much pain and cramps as well just cant understand why I have developed these things later and why they are wores now that I have stopped?

I am so glad I found this site as it has confirmed many of the suspicions I've had about advair for quite some time. I've had the hoarseness, dizziness, memory loss, major weight gain, and major cramps and leg pains. I was even diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis because of the non-stop joint pains etc... The doctors too insisted that non of my troubles were due to the advair and I find this completely maddening that they lead patitents to believe that something is safe when it is not! About 9 months ago, totally fed up with the state my health has fallen to, I began alternative medicine-- acupuncture and am starting homeopathy soon-- and the results have been very promising. I am not using rescue inhaler at all and am weaning myself off the advair. I am starting to feel best I have since I was diagnosed with adult on-set asthma. I would encourage anyone to explore these safe alternatives and would also like to know if anyone has found any "safe" replacement for advair which does help control asthma symptoms w/out the HORRIBLE side effects?

I have been on Advair 250/50 off and on for a couple of years. When I take the dose I get a smothering feeling that last for about l5 minutes. I also have cramps in my legs and feet.. Another side effect I think is bruising very easily. If I barely touch something I get big red bruises. Does anyone else have the problem with bruising. Am going to try to get off Advair completely.

I can't believe all that I am reading. Thank you for your posting! I thought it was all in my head! The doctor prescribed me Advair 500 because I complained of a cough and have had pneumonias in the past. Doctor said it would help prevent the cough getting worst. I took for a few days and experience fast heart beat, chest pain and cramps in my lungs and hands. I also felt mad for no evident reason.Thought I was having a heart attack. I was scared to touch this stuff again and now that I read this, I am throwing it in the garbage!!! My cough as gotten worst since I stopped taking it but I trust there is better medication out there.

I have been on Advair for four months with good results concerning my asthma. Although my complaint seems rather insignificant compared to those I have been reading, I do have a side effect that is becoming increasingly difficult to deal with. My food tastes terrible. Most of it tastes horribly bitter. I have lost weight because I cannot tolerate the horrible taste. Many good meals have ended up in the garbage. I mentioned the bad taste to my doctor after being on Advair for one month. He felt it would diminish with time, however it is increasingly worse. I also have had terrible cramps in my feet, which, from the posts, I'm assuming is also related to the Advair. If anyone has had severe taste issues with this drug, I would love to hear from you. I am also wondering if this will improve if I go off the drug.

I am glad to see I am not crazy!! I started on advair a week and a 1/2 ago. My blood pressure went up and after 6 days of taking advair my bp was 140/99. Heart rate increased from 60's-low 70's up to mid 80's. I have always had really good bp before this and a good heart rate. I also had weird sensation in my arms and legs and a tightness in my chest that would come and go. I had a headache pretty much the whole time I was taking advair. I had horrible cramps in my feet and legs. I also had something strange happen to my face. I got a strange pain in my cheek that went up to my eye feeling like there was severe pressure behind it and then after making my eye water it went back down to my cheek for a minute and then disappeared. I was starting to get really creeped out by all these things happening so I bought a bp machine and monitored my bp. 48 hours after stopping advair my bp was excellent (106/66), heart rate back to the 60's, no more weird sensations, headache is gone, no cramps in my legs/feet, and my crappy mood has improved. All these strange symptoms are gone! I will never take that crap again!! It may work for some but it didn't work for me.

I've always had problems with leg cramps but now, since I've started taking Advair, every muscle in my body cramps -- BADLY. So I'm done, I'm going to call the doctor Monday a.m. & tell him I've stopped the medication. I just thought it was a fluke and I was having a bad time (have done that), but since getting on here and seeing that other people have had this problem, I'm sure it's the Advair. Occassionally I've forgotten a dose & the cramps have gotten better. So now I'm putting 2/2 together. As much as Advair has helped my cough, it's put me in so much pain I can't get one hrs. sleep before I have to jump out of bed and try walking a cramp out, during the day my back, arms, hands, chest, stomach muscles are all cramping painfully while I'm trying to work.

I have been experiencing hoarseness. loss of voice as well as severe low back ache, hip ache anxiety and severe cramps in my calves at night. I have been going to back therapy the past month not making the connection to Advair and thinking it was more of my on going back problems. I stopped taking Advair 5 five days ago and many of the side effects either have gone away or have been subsiding noticeably. I thought this was a coincidence until today I began to read this forum and am really convinced at this point that the Advair has been playing a large role in my physical woes. On the downside, my asthma has become worse but I intend to ask my Dr. for a script for Asmanex when he returns to town....

I was put on Advair in Dec 05 for chronic lung inflammation. I do not have asthma. Truth be known nobody seems to know what is wrong with my lungs..... After reading some of the postings, I know I'm not becoming a hyperchrodraic. It seems like every week there is something new wrong with me.
It started with my lower arms and hands falling to sleep, to really bad cramps in my lower arms that cause my hands to cripple, to having absolutely no feeling whatsoever on occasional mornings. Within the last 3 weeks my feet get really bad cramps and my toes also cripple and spread really wide during bad ones. Hurts like mad. (Just so you know, for the feet cramping if you run hot water in the tub and stand in it while you go up and down on the balls of your feet until the cramps go away they don't come back for the rest of the night.) To continue..... Last week I started getting muscle aches in my calves. This week I have had a headache every morning and nothing seems to get rid of it. I feel so stiff and old. I have also had searing pain shooting through my right ear occasionally. I see my doc tomorrow and demanding to be taken off of Advair. I'll let you know how it goes and if the side effects go away...... TTYL, Trie

My side effects are the same as athena86 #19149. I was on it for only ten days, but it was hard to eat food, then I wanted to burb but couldn't then nausa and cramps for two hours and tightness in the chest. A sweet taste always in my mouth. (Is that yeast?) The result is that I can't get much done because after two hours it is time to eat again. I have been trying to space my eating as widely as possible. How do we get rid of this stuff and how can they sell it. Someone said it was the same as "speed."

I began taking Advair about 2 weeks ago. Approximately
1 week after starting Advair, I began to have leg and thigh cramps that awakened me during the night. (worse than I had ever had before in my life and I'm 40 something.) It got progressively worse and spread to my arms and legs. I finally had to stop taking it after an "episode" 6 days ago. My legs, thighs, arms and hands began to cramp and spasm all at once! My husband assisted me into a tub of hot water to help calm my muscles down.
Per Dr.'s instructions, I have not taken it since. The side effects have slowly began to deminish. I continued to have cramps during the night for about 4 days, my muscles were very sore and achy as though I had been working out really hard. Now they are still a little sore and they feel very tired and fatigued. However I am getting better day by day. I have been instructed to go back to using my previous preventive inhaler.
I also gained 6 pounds, but that could have been from the prednisone that I am taking.
I would like to say that the Advair did help to improve my asthma symptoms. I'm dissapointed that I had to discontinue using it.

I posted side effects on Jan.9, 2006 - Guest #15065. I have not taken Advair since that date, so am on my 12th day without. I am sleeping! I have had only a couple of mild arch cramps compared to the charlie horses that brought me to tears. My breathing is okay, even though I live in the mountains and have been in some cold winds. I have not gone on a mountain hike yet, and that will be the test. I will repost after that. Advair is DEFINETELY a drug I can do without.

I originally wrote in my side effects in August 2005, guest #13014.I have been off of Advair since the end of August, and I no longer have cramps in my legs, bone pain, chest pain coughing, or thrush in my throat! I feel so much better and sleep the night through. My doctor did not like that I stopped Advair, but it's my body. I am now on Spiriva HandiHaler and so far the only side effect I have is dry mouth. I can handle that!

I am seventy years old, and have been on advair 250/50 for about a year. I have a bad cough since starting Advair, thick phlem, thrush in my throat. insomnia, terrible bone pain in both legs, cramps in my feet at any time of the day, chest pain, and just recently a compression fracture. I am taking Fosamax to help build bone, but the insert for Advair says,"may cause bone loss" I'm fighting a losing battle. Am now on 100/50 once a day. Hope to get off of Advair soon!!

I recently went into an asthma attack that admitted me into the hospital on Sept 3rd. I was given albuterol treatments which I also use at home and have for 3 + years via nebulizer when needed. They also prescribed ADVAIR on Sept 4th or 5th and released me from the hospital. Once home my breathing started to decline despite using my nebulizer on time. By Monday night my breathing was shallow and my Cramps had severe pain onset. I began walking stiffly. I went to bed that night and my breathing continued to decline. In the morning I could hardly walk because of the pain in my calves. I could however sit and they "seemed " fine but turned in a bit. I took my children to school and at 8am dropped them off to the teacher at the curb check in. (Meaning I did not have to get out) I pulled aside to get out and see a friend and as I stepped out of the car my calves seized again. At the advice of my friend I decided to right away drive around the corner to the Medical Center where I go. I had an appt later that morning for follow up from Hospital, but decided I better not wait.
-- By monkeywalk | Reply | (1) replies | Private Message meBY 8:10 I was in a red zone with my asthma Chest in FULL SEIZE (225 peak flow from over 375 an hour earlier using the peak flow meter I had in my car)
I got out of the car to go into the medical center and IMMEDIATELY Dropped DOWN a Foot and my Feet FLIPPED over my Knees Bowed out and I was walking like a Monkey. I scrambled to get into the medical center where I yelled for assistance and was given breathing treatment with no relief and sent to the Hospital via Ambulance. Breathing 3 breathing treatments in 3 hours no relief of Seizing in Chest. Xrays Clear. .I stayed there until Sept 16th where I have now been released, I am still walking monkey like , I have numbness in my face, a severe headache and I have not slept since Sept 14th at 5 am . I am not tossing and turning, I am wide awake.Today is Thursday Sept 18th. It took at least 3 days of before I was taken off ADVAIR. I had been on ADVAIR for at least 7-8 days 150/50 twice a day. I noticed a difference in my Chest muscle within 12 hours. My legs started to soften and not be so stiff within 1 or 2 days, however my feet drag sideways as I take a step. I have to swing my legs forward for each step. I directly link this to the ADVAIR.
