My husband was given a sample of this for a month-long bout of bronchitis and we are now thinking it has done permanent damage to his vocal chords. He only used it 5 times, got thrush (yeast infection) in his throat and is still hoarse after a week of being off of it. Does anyone know the history of this drug and has the word "class action lawsuit" crossed anyone's mind besides mine? I am amazed at the way pharmaceutical companies run the healthcare business in this country!

I don't want to go off on a rant here, but are people aware that a large portion of the FDA's operating budget is provided by pharmaceutical manufacturers? This isn't our first experience with this type of thing and I'm about to launch a grassroots campaign to educate the public. Maybe they'll stop believing all the marketing hype.

I'm thinking that the pharmaceutical companies ought to heed the Hippocratic oath - FIRST, DO NO HARM. Wouldn't it be a remarkably different world if they would take all the money they're spending on marketing and use it to lower the price of orphan and AIDS drugs? They keep saying that research is expensive - and advertising on every possible television show, radio and magazines is cheap? Hello? Are we going to be sheep or are we going to be citizens and hold these companies responsible for what they're doing. Thanks for letting me vent. Please contact me if you want to do something about this. And no, I'm not an attorney, but I'm a writer and I think I just found out what my first book is going to be about...

I am 35 yrs. old and have been using inhaled steroids(albuterol, asmacort, vanceril, and Avair) for the past 16 years. I had noticed my eye vision deteriorating over the last 11 years. I was diagnost with and eye disease called kerataconis. i suspect a connection to my asthma medication use. I can only see effectivly with aid of special lense glasses, or hard contacts. I have since ceased use of Advair, and all inhalers , hoping to halt further progression, and the need for corneal trans plants. Too bad for me that Advair and the drug companies didnt fully do a better job warning the public 11 years ago when it could have made a difference.

Hello everyone. Firstly I have to say that I'm a hard one to deal with. I don't trust doctors for the most part, I find that they're the legal drug pushers. Out of the blue 2 years ago, I developed Asthma. Without any testing they put me on advair 125. After reading your postings..wow... I thought I was taking crazy pills until now. Lately, due to enjoying the odd cigar... I've found that I've had to increase my usage (I've since stopped the run of cigars)...and as of late I've had a funny aching pain in the center of my chest. it comes, it goes, it comes it goes... it seems like every couple of minutes, but it does eventually stop. by stop I mean it doesn't last continuously for 24 hours, but it has been happening at least every day. i've gone for stress tests, MRI's... and a host of tests, ut yet they say my heart is normal. I've also noticed that some days within 2 minutes of taking my advair it seems like my heart flip flops... again, it usually only lasts for a few minutes but it's scary as hell... the only thing is that it does help me breathe easy... I've also noticed that the past 2 years of using it... I"ve had a ton of foot cramps on the bottom ball of my foot leading into the toes... painful as hell and at 3am it'll shoot me out of bed so I can walk it off and put as much pressure on it as possible in the hopes of fixing the pain. Is this really normal...or rather are these really that normal of side effects for using Advair. If so... that's it...I'm going natural in my search for an asthma cure. What kind of crap are the drug companies trying to put into our bodies.

I am so glad I found this site. I have been on and off advair for two years now. I have a serious yeast infection under my breasts that nothing will clear up. Doctors say inhaled steroids are not systemic-nonsense! That's like saying cigarette smoke doesn't go into your blood stream from your lungs-of course it does. Anything in inhaled into your lungs is systemic. Doctors are idiots who get kickbacks from drug companies. Even the pharmacist I spoke to, who should know better, denied this is caused by Advair. I only take one puff a day, and have very similar side effects to those posted here. Joint pain, hoarseness, tiredness and weight gain that never seem to drop. I would like to stop taking it but am afraid that I won't be able to breathe. I studied anatomy and know that half of what doctors tell you is wrong. Do your own research and be an informed consumer. Look at what happened with Vioxx and Phen fen. The drug companies create medicines that are worse than the condition that's treating it. I am a very angry comsumer. Don't believe what the drug companies tell you either. They hide side effects. Get yourself a good PDR and also the internet is a great tool. Good luck to all of you.

I took one dose of advair because my doctor recommended it and my heart began pounding like a Jack Hammer within 2 hours of using it. I have a pulmonologist who prescribed it for me again and he thinks I should try it and get over the side-effects within 2 days.

After reading this website I think I'm just going to chuck the stuff. Don't you think that those of us who have used this stuff and had adverse reactions get together and file a class action law suit or at least try to warn the public in a major way about the dangers of this drug?

What are the statistics? I also would like to know if Glaxo has handled this drug like some other drug companies have handled anti-depressant drug reactions (ghost written the studies and pushed it through anyway). I don't trust the big drug companies.

For all parents of young asthmatics ... My 8 yr. old son had severe behavioral problems after being on Advair for a few months. Changes were gradual but the end result was exposive. Singular wasnt effective in controlling his asthma and the doctor at Glaxo Welcome recommened Flovent Discus. What a relief!! He was started on the lowest recommended dosage and not only is he behaving like his old self again but his breathing has NEVER BEEN BETTER! Don't just "listen" to your doctor - Do the research, call the drug companies, and listen to your gut instinct.
