I was diagnosed with adult allergic asthma one year ago at 38 years old. I started having problems breathing ONLY AT NIGHT on occasion and palpitations. Had a physical and ekg, totally normal. Went to allergist and they said I have alot of allergies and diagnosed me with the asthma. Funny thing, weeks before I niked 20 miles, hiked 12 miles, canoed 3 miles, played golf in a 3 day span and no problems. Since they told me this and started me on advair I haven't been able to jog more than 2 miles or bike more than 8 to 10.
Its very strange indeed, I have gotten more paranoid feelings when just get a little out of breath, and sometimes cant keep still in a car or sitting down.
I cut back on sugar, sodium and started exercising a little every day, only 15 minutes. But came down with a cold recently and back to square one. I am trying to take the advair only ONCE a day instead of twice and almost feel withdrawal symptoms like shakiness, paranoia, irritability. Does anyone have any idea about this? I am really confused! Thanks... J

I was prescribed Advair a little over 3 months ago to treat my asthma. It was great for the first six days. No asthma symptoms whatsoever, even after jogging, and I felt great! I woke up the seventh day feeling as though my vocal cords were encased in an incredible amount of flem and my voice went from a baritone to a tenor; I'm a guy so this was disconcerting. During the second week I began experiencing nasal drippage, uncontrollable trembling, extreme physical weakness, memory loss, an unnerving lack of mental clarity and trouble maintaining my temper. The third week of using Advair I began struggling with overwelming thoughts of suicide. All of these things are completely out of character for me. I don't take any other medicine, prescribed or not, have always been healthy and am rarely sick so it was a no-brainer as to what was causing me to experience these things. I stopped taking Advair at that time (after the third week) and promptly developed a headache and other withdrawel type feelings in my throat and chest that took about a week to go away. I also promptly developed a cold that I could not get rid of for a month and a half as well as the flu which I hadn't had in years; I also had asthma related difficulties that were worse than before I started Advair but powered thru those episodes using Primatine Mist. In the month following discarding my Advair disk I noticed a gradual improvement in all the before mentioned Advair affected areas and thankfully the most immediate area of improvement was emotional (i.e., no longer suicidal). One of my vocal chords is still painful but at least I no longer sound prepubescent.
I started researching the side effects of Advair after the second week I was on it and found a reference to it possibly causing an overgrowth of Candidas Albicans. After researching that I'm convinced ultimately that is what I experienced.

I began taking Advair 250/50 in Nov. '06, approximately 1 month later started having pretty severe spinning & dizziness. Initially I was diagnosed with mild asthma and Ive always had allergies. The Advair cleared up the wheezing almost immediately and it never occurred to me that maybe the Advair was causing my dizziness. However after using in on and off for the last year and a half, I have experienced anxiety, a few panic attacks (for the 1st time in my 42 years), and this overall feeling of cloudiness. I recently started the Advair again and almost immediately I am now feeling very dizzy again, headaches with this stabbing pain behind my right eye, an overall feeling of instability. To add: last year when this all started I saw a neurologist, and a whole series of tests to check the cause of the dizziness Including a brain MRI, eeg and bear tests, these all came back normal. I am truly beginning to believe that the Advair may be the cause of all of this. Just a note, I also have felt the pain in my arm and neck. Has anyone else experienced these feelings in your head? I have stopped the Advair, to see the difference. I'll stick with Albuterol for now. I am a stay a home mom who has always been really healthy, eats right and exercises regularly. Any feedback would help!

I've only been on Advair for two weeks. I was diagnosed with asthma only about a month ago, but it's so slight. I had a little persistent cough and that's about it. In fact, the ten days after I was diagnosed with asthma and before I started Advair I actually felt better than I had in a long time.
I started Advair and about a dozen times a day my heart starts to race and I feel like my insides are trembling from head to foot. These feelings only last a minute or two, but they're very scary.
Also, I feel like something is caught in my windpipe. I feel really phlegmy which I never did before.
The really odd thing is that I've had a sore hip for many months, and the last two weeks it's gotten so bad that I keep waking up with the pain each night and can't find a comfortable position.
I finally made an appt. with my doctor, even though she didn't want to see me for two months. I decided to look to see what the side effects might be for Advair, and after looking at the first 20 comments (out of 752 of them), I was amazed and horrified. I think everything I have is caused by the Advair. Having asthma to the extent I have it is nothing compared to what I am going through.

I am not cetain Advair is the cause of this but about year or so ago I started experiencing fainting feelings and almost passed a couple of times. The doctoer ran tests and everything seemed normal. One day I was paying attention to the side effects of Advair via an ad on tv and was stunned.
I stopped Advair a couple of months ago and have not had these "weak spells". Now it may be a coincidence but I won't be using it anymore so time will tell. Has anyone else experienced feelings like this?

I have been on Advair 250/50 for about 2 years. About 6 months ago I started experiencing feelings of heat on my back....like hot/cold clammy feeling. Hard to explain. My skin feels cool to the touch even when I feel like I am burning up. I feel more or less normal when I wake up and then progressively get these sensations of heat as the day progresses. The steroid in the Advair makes it hard to keep my weight where it should be. Before I was on Advair, I was on Albuteral inhaler, Atrovent and Azmacort. I notice, too, that immediately after inhaling Advair, it is hard to breathe for about 30 minutes. Hoarse voice comes and goes. I think I will try to go back to my previous meds or maybe ask if I can go on Foradil and another type of inhaled steroid as I have a strong asthma component with my Emphysema.

Been on Advair for 6 months now and have gained 10 pounds. I weighed the same for years prior to Advair.
I even eat less now but still the weight gain around my stomach. Very fatiqued. All I want to do is sleep. Have experienced muscle and joint pain. Have had chest pain which travels down my left arm and tingle feelings in my left hand. Get headaches and back and shoulder pain. Feels like when you have the flu. Been getting heartburn also and the doctor gave me Aciphex for that and it did seem to help the heartburn. I'm so happy to have found this sight. I am going off the Advair and see what happens. I hope they go away soon. I am usually a very active person but now have no interest in much and no desire to get off the couch and do anything. I am usually very tired.

I have had asthma for over 20 years. I am now 25 and have been on Advair for over 2and 1/2 yrs. Advair definitely has helped, I can breath enough to run again, no wheezing or struggling for breath no hospital visits since I started the med....BUT I have also gained over 40 pounds (and still gaining), get chronic migraines, and have definite Cushing's like symptoms. Plus I get thrush in my mouth every couple of months. And don't forget the insomnia, jittery feelings, tremor and rapid heartbeat. All of these symptoms started since I began taking Advair and continue to worsen. And to top it off, my Pulomonlogist insists the Advair cannot be causing all of these problems. I thought I was losing my mind until I found this forum. Advair is no miracle drug and should be taken with extreme caution.

I started advair after an extreme allergic reaction to burning poison ivy. It helped to control my breathing; but I think the doctor kept me on it too long. During the first year I had experienced heart attack like palpitations a few times which I just lived through. I saw a throat specialist, who told me I needed voice lessons to regain the voice I was losing. I asked my Dr if I should still be on it and he said absolutely yes. I guess my state of vulnerability after almost dying kept me from questioning the negative affects the drup was having on me. The depression I was experiencing probably also contributed. I stayed on it for another 8 months and the side affects increased to include: hip and joint pain, acid reflux (I think this may be caused by back pain because it gets better when I do exercises that take the pressure off the back), rounded face and front part of baody, anger, and depressive thoughts. I myself decided to get off advair a month ago after seeing this site and I so happy I did. I have been actually having feelings of well-being again and I sleep well evn with the joint pain. How long does it take for the body to recover from the affects of advair?

I was put on an inhaler called Servent, I guess it is the British equivalent to Advair, contains salmeterol xinafoate.
I have been on it for only two weeks and I have noticed so many of the things you all have. I don't think I have had more than 4 hours sleep a night since I started taking it, and that has been disturbed. Emotionaly I am a wreck, up and down, no control over my feelings, I thought I was going insane. I also have a stinging tongue all the time, can't stop shaking and my voice, which used produce some nice dulcet tones even if I do say so myself, sounds awful now.
Having said all of this, I am so glad I am not alone, at that there is a possible reason for it all.
Did you all just stop yourself or talk to your doctor first?
Thank you all again.

I recently went into an asthma attack that admitted me into the hospital on Sept 3rd. I was given albuterol treatments which I also use at home and have for 3 + years via nebulizer when needed. They also prescribed ADVAIR on Sept 4th or 5th and released me from the hospital. Once home my breathing started to decline despite using my nebulizer on time. By Monday night my breathing was shallow and my Cramps had severe pain onset. I began walking stiffly. I went to bed that night and my breathing continued to decline. In the morning I could hardly walk because of the pain in my calves. I could however sit and they "seemed " fine but turned in a bit. I took my children to school and at 8am dropped them off to the teacher at the curb check in. (Meaning I did not have to get out) I pulled aside to get out and see a friend and as I stepped out of the car my calves seized again. At the advice of my friend I decided to right away drive around the corner to the Medical Center where I go. I had an appt later that morning for follow up from Hospital, but decided I better not wait.
-- By monkeywalk | Reply | (1) replies | Private Message meBY 8:10 I was in a red zone with my asthma Chest in FULL SEIZE (225 peak flow from over 375 an hour earlier using the peak flow meter I had in my car)
I got out of the car to go into the medical center and IMMEDIATELY Dropped DOWN a Foot and my Feet FLIPPED over my Knees Bowed out and I was walking like a Monkey. I scrambled to get into the medical center where I yelled for assistance and was given breathing treatment with no relief and sent to the Hospital via Ambulance. Breathing 3 breathing treatments in 3 hours no relief of Seizing in Chest. Xrays Clear. .I stayed there until Sept 16th where I have now been released, I am still walking monkey like , I have numbness in my face, a severe headache and I have not slept since Sept 14th at 5 am . I am not tossing and turning, I am wide awake.Today is Thursday Sept 18th. It took at least 3 days of before I was taken off ADVAIR. I had been on ADVAIR for at least 7-8 days 150/50 twice a day. I noticed a difference in my Chest muscle within 12 hours. My legs started to soften and not be so stiff within 1 or 2 days, however my feet drag sideways as I take a step. I have to swing my legs forward for each step. I directly link this to the ADVAIR.
