I am an RN. I have complained to my allergist and Practisioner for years that I have terrible hip pain, muscle and joint pain with the Advair. It works great to control the wheezing, but everytime I start back on it, within 2 weeks I am limping and crying with pain in my legs and hips. Everytime I manage to get off for two weeks the pain subsides. I have had xrays of my hips and there is no deterioration. I too have gained considerable weight. We have tried Spriva and it also had adverse reactions. It increased mucus instead of decreasing it. If anyone has a suggestion, I would like to hear what it is.

I have been taking Advair 500 and 250 for three years. During that time I thought I separated my shoulder or did some type of injury. I was x-rayed and given a cortisone shot. The pain was relieved for about 2 months. I have a high tolerance so I decided to live with it. Next, my hips were so painful that I could barely walk. I was x-rayed. The doctor said I had inflamation, but not arthritis. Then my wrists were painful. I thought carpal tunnel syndrom from typing... so I was mindful of my time on the computer. Now, for about half a year I have experienced severe pain in my left elbow. This is so bad I sometimes can not even lift a glass of water. I thought I must have some weird type of migrating arthritis... or just Advairitis!!! So here I am "Googling" my symptoms only to learn that it is possibly from the Advair. Carol

Advair caused me to have severe joint pain in my knees and hips. It was as though i had severe arthritis. There was also a severe pressure feeling behind my knee caps I had bad headaches, acne, sharp chest pain and was seriously irritable.I realized it was the advair after i had been off of it for several weeks due to losing our health insurance all my symptoms went away and returned three days after starting the advair 250/50 again.

I was prescribed 250/50 Advair, twice a day. Within several days it was noticably helping my breathing. Right away the side effects I had were a dry, raspy throat and hoarseness, which I could live with. Then I got continual sores on my mouth and tongue dispite rinsing after the Advair. I was still thinking I could live with that since I was breathing so much better. I had a lot of indigestion and was constipated, which I was still thinking I could probably live with. BUT after about 2 months of taking the Advair I was noticing a lot of joint pain; most noticable in my fingers, thumbs, wrists and hip. That scared me so I started researching the harder to find effects of taking Advair. I finally decided the cure wasn't worth the unknown damage it was inflicting on my body, so I quit taking it. I just stopped - no bad side effects from stopping it abrubtly, and the joint pain decreased pretty fast. I've been off it for about a month now; can't breathe as well but my fingers and wrists and hips don't hurt anymore and the sores in my mouth have gone away as well as the heartburn and constipation. I think it's a pretty scary drug that's prescribed way too frequently and way too fast without enough research.

Hi. I have been on Advair for about 2 years. I started at 100 level, had a bad cold in Jan. and went to 250. Got another cold and laryngitis in April and went to 500 level. The laryngitis went on for 7 weeks. I still have a raspy, rough voice, always clearing my throat. By chance, I decided to look up side effects of Advair. My gosh, I can't believe what I've seen here! I've put on 10 pounds since spring, have been going to voice therapy weekly since June. I have pain in my hips so bad it wakes me up every night. I've been eating ibuprophen like candy, along with Tylenol PM every night just so I can get to sleep. So, I've gone back to the 250 level that I had. So far, so good. I'm going to try to get off of this. My brother, also an asthmatic, began running last year. He has increased his lung capacity to the point where he no longer needs his flovent, just albuterol before running. A co-worker told me about a book he has, How to become a Former Asthmatic, that helped him come off steroids by following a series of breathing exercises that also increase lung capacity. Anyway, that's my plan of attack to get off Advair. Unfortunately, like the others, my asthma has never been in better control. I can even be around cats for the first time in my life. Life is full of choices. I choose to live without the side effects of Advair.

I know that we all post messages here but there is no way for us to talk with each other if you don't leave you email address. Please post your message with your email address in it. We all are suffer with side effect lets talk to see if we can help each with information.
I am not sure how long it takes for side effect to go away. I have been off advair since July 3 and I still have slight joint pain and pain in my hips and lower back. My joints make popping noises sometimes in my hands. I still have sinus pressure between my ears. I don't take anything right now except advil to try to remove the pressure. I am also getting over the thrush and sore throat that I did have. I was on Advair for four weeks and this happened. My doctor told me that my symptoms are not related to Advair but I know that is not true. I have been in my body longer then my doctor has been practicing and I know when my body is operating differently. My email is ******

48 year old male. been on Advair for MANY years. recently diagnosed with Osteopenia, which describes the condition of loss of bone density. I have significant loss of bone density in spine, femurs and hips. I have three compression fractures in T6, T7, T8 vertebra
I had no idea until recently that Bone density problems were a side effect of Advair. Sad.
