I just wanted to comment to all of you asthma sufferers. I grew up with bronchitis and my brother with asthma. We were always getting sick while young, about every 6 weeks. My nephew inherited asthma from my brother, and he had it very bad, was always getting sick, needing oxygen, etc. While in his teens, someone told him to start playing an instrument like the trumpet or trombone which really exercises your lungs. He started taking lessons in school and it didn't take very long at all to notice a remarkable difference. His other siblings would even get sick and he wouldn't! The exercise, being natural, is a far better and healthy prevention, and makes your lungs stronger. I can't believe doctors don't spread this amazingly helpful advice around. I'm VERY sure they must have heard this before. Wouldn't news like that spread like wildfire through the medical community? But they would probably lose some business!!! So I wanted to help pass it around. I hope it helps some of you!

My uncle has COPD and takes Spiriva and Advair. He has had pneumonia since June 08 off and on through Sept. I've been concerned about this and have been reading up on Advair for people with COPD causing pneumonia. My question is what other choices does he have for medication if he stops taking the Advair? Does anyone know that has been through this? He is on oxygen all the time and his dose of Spiriva is 100/50. After reading the posts, I'm convinced his pneumonia is a result of the Advair.

I am a 61 yr. old female former smoker diagnosed with COPD/emphysema. I was put on ADVAIR 500, along with using a nebulizer with albuterol and bromide to "inhale" several times a day.I also was on oxygen. I quit smoking and worked at getting my health back and to the surprise of the doctors went back to playing tennis several times a week. After reading about the side effects of the high dose Advair I had my Dr. reduce the amount to 250. It has been almost a year now that I have been on Advair. I have noticed some of the side effects mentioned here. The leg cramps, and leg spasms have been horrid. I also have had blurry vision. And lately I seem to not be able to sleep even if I am tired.I am going to see if my Dr. will let me drop to the 100 Advair level. Lately I have been intentionally skipping Advair doses to see if I notice any difference in my breathing. I almost forgot- since going on the meds listed above I have had kidney stones, an emergency appendix surgery and now high bilirubin count. I cannot find any info on those problems if result of medication ADVAIR. Even though I smoked for a number of yrs. I was very active and not over weight. The Dr. thinks thats why I am back to playing tennis. Has anyone else had a gastro problems ??Thanks A.

I am currently taking advair and I feel horrible pain in my chest. I am having a hard time breathing and feel as though I am not gettin g enough oxygen to my brain. This is only my third or forth dose of advair. The really bad chest pain is when I cough. But I still feel the achiness without the cough. My muscles in my back hurt as though I have been lifting a ton of weights although I have done NO strenous activity. How long will this take to wear off?

So nice to see that I'm not just imagining the adverse reactions. I've been taking Advair 250/50 for about 3 weeks now after being diagnosed with asthma/chronic bronchitis. I went back to my doctor the following week because I was still having chest pain, back pain, felt as if I still wasn't getting enough oxygen and mentioned that I was having a lot of difficulty with being jittery. He evaluated my breathing with a peak flow meter and since that seemed to be OK, he wanted to do an EKG - which he did and seemed to see something that warranted a referral to a cardiologist. So far the cardiologist has not seen anything out of the ordinary.
I'm thinking more and more that there is nothing wrong with my heart and that this is all being caused by the Advair. Has anyone else been referred to a cardiologist and found out nothing was wrong?

I have been on Advair 250/50 since it was allowed in the USA. I also take Spiriva. I told my pulmonary doctor last October that I would like a lower dosage. Now I am on 100/50. The side effects have not dimished and I am getting scared. My skin has aged and the forearms are like goosepumps. Just diagnosed with cataract in one eye and I was told I have severe osteoporosis. I have COPD, the reason for taking Advair. I now have HIVES. I do not suggest anyone try Advair. It is a killer. Tomorrow I have an appointment with my regular doctor for the hives and I am going to inquire about getting off Advair. I don't know if I need any other medication? I use oxygen at night when I go to bed (concentrator). When I was working I didn't need the oxygen during the day but I know I have a lot of anxiety which leads to depression. I have small canisters of oxygen in case I need it. When I get upset, I can use it but notice I recover on my own.

I have been taking ADVAIR and it has helped tremendously. I have never been a smoker, but would wake up feeling tired and like I had walked 10 miles.I took two years of complainng to docotrs before I got the right answers. My muscles were sore , it was brutal . I had no idea you had to take Advair for two weeks for it to work. I was taking it here and there because I try to aviod taking meds constantly, due to the worry of side effects.
However if it helps me get less chest infections, wake up feeling almost 100% , because I am getting the required oxygen ..I have nothing bad to say , except I do find a slight dry throat.

I have been on Advair for 3 years or more. I started on 100/50, then went to 250/50. And after a while I had a terrible "burning" in my mouth. I had never associated it with the Advair. During a routine visit with my Pulmonary Dr. I mentioned that my mouth, throat and stomach had been burning very bad. He immediately said, "ADVAIR". I asked if he thought that Advair would do that. He replied, "I know it can". He told me to stop using it and he gave me a prescription for Nystatin. The yeast had gone through my mouth, throat and my stomach and intestines were burning too. However, after a few days I had to ask him to let me go back on the Advair because I was having a bad problem with my breathing. I am now on 100/50. I've had all the same problems that everyone else is talking about. I believe two people have mentioned the "foot cramps". Two of my toes will draw together and I have to pull them apart. I also have bad cramps in my legs. I mentioned the problems with my toes drawing together and nobody seems to believe me. I too have a problem with my weight. I keep wishing I could give up the Advair but I have COPD and use oxygen. I use Atrovent solution and Xopenex in my nebulizer in addition to the Advair. I wrote to the Company about all the "symptoms" I was having. They were very nice, listened to all my complaints and they did follow-up with a letter to my Dr. I'm sure they had heard my story before. But I wii have to say they were concerned and tried to be helpful.

Side Effects from Advair: Guest #4309 again Also look at response #7070 written on Sept 11 just below.

I am not a specialist. All I did was look up as much information as I could after the Medical Doctors told me advair couldn't cause these side effects and it doesn't cause an auto-immune problem.

YOU ARE EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS OTHERS MAY NOT UNDERSTAND!!!

Candida is always looking for a chance to grow and spread. It can CHANGE ITS FORM in different ways. It can change itself to resist certain substances you take to eliminate it.

Thyroid:

Thyroid gland is located in lower front of your neck. It makes thyroid hormone, which is secreted into the blood and then carried to every tissue in the body. It is essential for helping each cell in each tissue and organ to work right. Thyroid hormone helps the body use energy, stay warm and keep the brain, heart, muscle and other organs working, as they should. A malfunctioning thyroid and a compromised immune system can make you more sensitive to any common allergens. This combination can also produce numerous other harmful side effects including WEIGHT CONTROL.

Fungus:

When antibodies form to attack the pathogens, the pathogens can often take on a similar appearance or likeness to the various tissues they attach themselves to (THYROID tissue, HEART tissue, LUNG tissue, MUSCLE tissue, etc.) When this happens, the antibodies will attack the pathogens along with the tissues of the organ, lining or whatever they attach themselves to. This can lead to various kinds of allergic reactions and medical complications of all kinds. This fungus (candida) can also produce a waste product called acetaldehyde, which produces ethanol. This minimizes your body to assimilate iron. This decreases the amount of oxygen in your blood. This reduces the chances for oxygen to get into your individual cells. Ethanol wipes out enzymes that are necessary for individual cell energy.

Leaky Gut Syndrome:

Hair-like roots tunnel their way through the small intestinal wall, working their way into the blood stream itself. Partially digested food particles can enter the blood stream. After a certain point your liver will no longer be able to filter out these food particles and TOXINS from re-circulating through your body by means of your blood. When food particles travel through your blood, they become like foreign invaders in your body. Your immune system will respond to this attack in various ways. At this time, your body can begin to experience reoccuring complications simply on the foods you eat, things you drink and even supplements you take.

Use the web and do the same. It's amazing how much info you can find. And once again, if you know of anyone who was prescribed advair and you feel the same way as I do about the product, handle it the best way you know possible. I have yet to figure out how to undo the damage.

Best of luck.
