I have been taking advair for over a year now. I would have not minded a bit the hoarseness, but the trembling, constant irratation, the worsening of my asthma ( yes, due to Advair), the weird palpitations, etc, are not what I expected from Advair. I am not surprised now when I just read it is a product of GlaxoSmithKline, famous for its disastrous Paxil and its subsequent scandals.

For information to the previous posts:
I have been off Advair now for 10 days (last post was on March 2). I switched to Qvar and it is working great. It took a week to get rid of the after affects of Advair - legs cramps, palpitations, nervousness, not sleeping at night.
For the last year and a half I wondered what the leg cramps were about; why I wasn't sleeping soundly at night (I thought it was pre menopause); all these different palpitations at various times; waking up in the morning feeling a "heavy" feeling. I also developed diabetes during this time. I really believe the Serevent in the Advair was doing a number on me.
I wrote to the FDA regarding this. On March 6, 2006 the FDA put out a new warning regarding Advair and Serevent (it's on the internet).
I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND ANOTHER ALTERNATIVE TO TAKING ADVAIR OR SEREVENT. BUT SEE YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STOPPING SO THAT HE CAN PUT YOU ON ANOTHER TYPE OF ASTHMA MED. AND CHECK THE PRESCRIBING INFORMATION!!!

I have been using Seretide (Advair) for around 6 months and like a lot of you thought the drug was wonderful with how it was controlling my Asthma. I am usually a fit and well person but over the last couple of weeks have been feeling so tired and lethargic, even the smallest task wiping me out. I thought nothing of it really, just stresses and strains of modern life. Then I started to get frequent palpitations and every time I fell asleep my heart would miss a beat and I would wake up. This would last a couple of hours and obviously over a matter of weeks I was getting more and more exhausted. I talked to my Doctor and she said that Seretide could cause abnormal heart rythyms, and along with the frequent oral thrush and dry mouth I have decided to give up on Seretide, hope it hasn't done any long term damage and resolve to using my salbutamol more often. It was great to find this site and discover that these side effects are not uncommon amongst others.

The user who said he had heart palpitaions and while trying to fall asleep, or after falling asleep, he had a sound and feeling that sounded and felt like a "PING" in his brain (it felt as though a nerve or vessel had exploded at its end). has described what i have been trying to tell doctors for the past three years. I was using Flovent and Servent at the time. At work I had what must have been an anxiety attack (which I've never had before) and after setting in my chair for nearly an hour (took some asprin and trying not to move because this just increased the heart rate) my palpitations soon were down. After ER visit (nothing found), that night and for several night, I had the same PING and palpitations. Got off Flovent and Servent. Recently had to try Advair--same thing. Can't take the stuff. You're the only other person who has described it so accurately. I haven't been able to find anyone else who has had that PING. Finally I can tell my doctors that I'm not crazy---IT HAPPENS. Thanks

My son who will be 11 in 4 days has been on Advair 250 for his asthma since he was 6. He is always complaining that he doesn't feel well but since he has so many different symptoms that he is usuallly ignored. Everything from sore stomachs, sore arms, legs, back and headaches all the time. Also he has a few sores over his body and has had a few of them removed to see what they were but everything came back negative. The main thing we notice about him is his anger and how upset he gets over little things. My son is also on ventolin several times a week and singulair everyday.

"Anxiety attack" - first time EVER, approx. 1 1/2 weeks after starting Advair. I was just riding in the car and all of a sudden felt like I was going to pass out/die, then had numb face and hands and some palpitations and higher breathing rate. I had been also having a lot of nausea (even waking up in the middle of the night feeling nauseous). Got off of it and all problems went away. Allergist didn't believe Advair could cause this, put GP said he could see it as a possibility.

Started advair after an extreme allergic reaction to burning poison ivy. It helped me to breathe more easily; but I think the doctor kept me on it too long. During the first year I had experienced heart attack like palpitations at night which I just lived through, and I saw a throat specialist who told me that voice lessons would help my throat pain and loss of voice (i.e., the problems were caused by my using my voice too much without training). At the end of the year I asked my allergist if I should continue to take advair and he said absolutely yes. After 8 more months on it the side affects incresed to include: hip and joint pain, acid reflux (I think this may be caused or made worse by back pain because it does get better after I do exercises that take pressure off the back), infection in sinus are that increased to a golfball size, rounded face and body front, anger, and depressive, negative thoughts. A month ago I decided myself to get off advair after reading this site and can say that already I have been having pleasant thoughts of well-being again and I sleep well even with joint pain. How long does it take for the body to recover from advair?

During the first year I had experienced heart attack like palpitations a few times which I just lived through. I saw a throat specialist, who told me I needed voice lessons to regain the voice I was losing. I asked my Dr if I should still be on it and he said absolutely yes. I guess my state of vulnerability after almost dying kept me from questioning the negative affects the drup was having on me. The depression I was experiencing probably also contributed. I stayed on it for another 8 months and the side affects increased to include: hip and joint pain, acid reflux (I think this may be caused by back pain because it gets better when I do exercises that take the pressure off the back), rounded face and front part of baody, anger, and depressive thoughts. I myself decided to get off advair a month ago after seeing this site and I so happy I did. I have been actually having feelings of well-being again and I sleep well evn with the joint pain. Took Advair for 2 weeks for a mild allergy induced asthma condition which I developed after a long bout with bronchitis. My breathing was slightly more comfortable but every day my throat was becoming increasingly sore and my voice was very hoarse. One evening my throat was so sore that I didn't take the dose. The doctor gave me a lower dose which I took for a week but I stopped it after I couldn't tolerate the sore throat( I rinsed my mouth like it instructed). Anyway, since my breathing was better he recommended that I stop the Advair. Well it's been 3 months now and I am suffering from intra costal nerve vibrations, muscular weakness, palpitationsand feelings of malaise. The muscle tremors are most noticeable when I lie down.I feel very down most of the time for no apparent reason. I have even had a holter monitor test for the palpitations but the test was negative. Trying to get myself back to normal with vitamins, diet, exercize etc. Can't believe that it is taking so long for the residuals of the drug to leave my system.

I am a 28 y.o. that began on 250/50 in february. Hadn't had asthma problems since I was 17-then had an an upper respiratory infection in january-went to the doctor because chest tightness wouldn't go away& was immediately placed on
Advair. Went to an allergist who sent me to a cardiologist because my heart rate in the office was 176! I always had a fast heart rate, but worried I had some congenital defect. After multiple tests, an electrophysiologist told me I should limit my albuterol use but said nothing about the advair. I went back to the allergist last month and my breathing was worse so they increased me to 350/50 twice a day. I had horrible palpitations and was very jittery the first few days, but I figured it might get better-and it did. But I have nausea now about every other day, only gained about 5 pounds, but the bloating has made me go up a dress size on bottom. Then for the last two weeks I have been geeting horrible cramps in my calves and feet & I started to wonder if it could be my advair because I have never experienced anything like this before. Also, I have been very moody, depressed and irrational, which I blamed on my "health problems" (my asthma is still not really under control) but now I wonder if this is a side effect as well. I'm so glad I discovered this site, because I was going to "tough it out"---not any more! I am talking to my doctor right away !!

I was diagnosed with adult allergic asthma one year ago at 38 years old. I started having problems breathing ONLY AT NIGHT on occasion and palpitations. Had a physical and ekg, totally normal. Went to allergist and they said I have alot of allergies and diagnosed me with the asthma. Funny thing, weeks before I niked 20 miles, hiked 12 miles, canoed 3 miles, played golf in a 3 day span and no problems. Since they told me this and started me on advair I haven't been able to jog more than 2 miles or bike more than 8 to 10.
Its very strange indeed, I have gotten more paranoid feelings when just get a little out of breath, and sometimes cant keep still in a car or sitting down.
I cut back on sugar, sodium and started exercising a little every day, only 15 minutes. But came down with a cold recently and back to square one. I am trying to take the advair only ONCE a day instead of twice and almost feel withdrawal symptoms like shakiness, paranoia, irritability. Does anyone have any idea about this? I am really confused! Thanks... J
