Advair HFA and rash

My son (9) was on advair off and on for a while for severe asthma. I noticed depression, anxiety, fatigue and fibromyalgia type pains all over his body. I had him checked for lupus and other diseases and all negative. He also developed a severe rash between his legs causing much pain and discomfort as he had to walk like a bull-legged horse-riding cowboy. Showering often never helped. I assume he has candidis yeast infection(systemic). He was finally put on Prozac and I took him off Advair against my doctors advice. i took him off slowly and your body may need to make it's own steriods and not go into shock. He takes as much albuterol as needed to get him better and then i give him prednisone for 3 days when things become an emergency. tTe prednisone leads my son to anger and suicide but it goes away after he finishes his course, but it saves his life. He is now 13 and much happier and his face and body has thinned out by half. I will never give my son Advair again.

I was on advair for almost two years, It worked wonderful for my breathing. I been battling chest pain, hip pain, skin rashes, short term memory loss/complex problem solving, severe calf pain when sleeping, and always feeling lazy. I been to three doctors about my problems and have ask if advair is causing my problems. They all said there is no way it is. I spend thousands of dollars trying to figure out what is wrong with me and the doctors and my wife think I making everything up, that it is in my head. Last month I thought I'll try to quit using advair. My chest pain has be occurring alot less, like once a week instead of 8 hours a day, my rash is gone, I still have light hip pain and haven't had any calf pain while sleeping yet. I just hope nothing is long term. My breathing is kind of bad now because I'm not taking anything but its better then ever the effects. Has anyone notice their cholesterol being higher on advair?

I started taking advair six months ago. I now have a rash that won'tgo away. It consist of large red bumps, most ly on my arms and legs, if I get a cut or scratch it doesn't heal properly I never had skin problems before I started taking Advair. I can't find it listed in any of the Advair side effects.

I started taking advair in September of 2006 after being diagnosed with allergy related asthma. I took it for 3 months. Then stopped for a few months over the winter and restarted in spring because of more serious symptoms of asthma. I have had severe stomach upset, acid reflex, rashes, and weight gain. I also feel dizzy a lot. I am very health consious and work out all of the time. I never gain weight so it seems obvious to me advair is the culprit. I am going to try getting allergy shots and see if I can stay off the advair. In home air filters do seem to help with the asthma

Unbelievable Rash on my back, scalp, etc. that my dermatologist indicated was exzema. After 7 months of constant itching, I have finally found this site and I am hoping that if I discontinue the advair, my rash will once and for all diminish.

Numbness, chronic weakness, chronic pain after 2 months of advair. I'm 47, never have gained weight. In one month gained 10 lbs! I feel horrible and sick all the time. Weird rashes-I never get rashes. I went to the doctor one month ago, she told me almost no chance that these were symptoms of this drug. I have been exhausted, and confused. My right thumb is always completely numb. I have terrible breast pain as well. Finally, I went to an accupuncturist that told me flat out that this drug causes permanent numbness in people and she firmly told me to get off it now, before it is too late. I hope it is not too late for me.

I am a healthy 43 year old woman, recently diagnosed with bronchitis, I had a persistant cough on and off for about a month, my doctor prescribed antibiotics and gave me advair discus, since then I have a burning sensation, like heartburn continuasly and my tongue feels funny, I have also experienced a rash like itching, i have only used it for about a week, it is also given me palpitations I will stop, I never had problems breathing and now I do, whwn will this sensation go away?

I have only been on Advair for 2.5 weeks and am getting off today. I am having heart racing, anxiety, and the feeling of shortness of breath (even though the peak flow monitor shows my breathing is fine). In addition I feel like I am coming out of my skin with a miserable feeling in my head. I know this is the Advair because this is a side effect I have with decongestants too. My mother and sister have been taking this for years and now I am wondering about their weight gain and my mother's cataracts. I also have some of the other symptoms that others have mentioned but not sure they are related. I have the frequent urination at night also, I think some of us are more prone to have that side effect with certain drugs. The people that mentioned the rash or itchness, it is not just a side effect but a reaction and the insert says to call your doctor with that symptom. Remember it is a steriod and you cannot just stop this medication without informing your doctor and maybe weaning off of it.

On Advair for 3 weeks for bronchitis/wheezing. Right away started having itching for an hour or so 2-3x a day. It has continued and expanded to many areas and is a temporary rash in some areas.
Benadryl stops it. Don't know if related, but heart rate accelerates from 80 to 160 in a few minutes of climbing stairs to do laundry for example and I've had chest pains.

I am a 37 year old female who took Advair for 2 1/2 years. When I first started Advair I called everyone I knew with Asthma and told them it was a miracle drug that they should ask doctors about.

My first negative symptoms were severe leg and foot cramps and numbness in legs. I did not associate them with Advair for a long time. These side effects were never listed in the drug info sheets I read. I then began to feel tired all of the time. And, I developed an awful rash all over my body, especially on the arms and legs (behind knees). I saw many doctors who could not tell me why I was sick. Finally, one doctor suggested stopping all meds, one at a time. We found at that I was allergic to Advair, the thing I thought was saving me. I was switched to Asmanex which is great--for now.

I am reporting these side effects of Advair to affirm those who are suffering and who may be getting crazy looks from doctors, like I did. They did not believe that I was in the kind of pain I was in. They did not make the association of Advair with rashes, though more and more users seem to be reporting this.

At the same time that I have had bad reactions, I have to say that my 9 year old is on Advair and it has been a GREAT drug for her. So far, I have seen no side effects, but we'll keep watching. I still think its a great drug for certain populations, but people need to wary of its possible negative impacts.

I have been on Advair for about 3 years - not using it all the time, and have recently developed eczema. I believe it is from the Advair, and fortunately believe I can quit it without too much trouble. Has anyone else experienced eczema or a rash from Advair? Seeing acupuncturist to help.

I am 29 and recently developed asthma like symptoms - wheezing and tight chest- 2 months after i quit smoking, and my doc put me on this. I am on my 3rd 250 mg discus of Advair (not including the 2 week sample discus) and have a couple of the side effects as described in other entries - a lot of acne on my forehead and cheeks, sides of my face... very rash like. I haven't had acne since i was 15. Also, none of my pants fit me in the waist, but they do in the thighs and butt - i also FEEL extremely bloated. Finally, i also have aching joints, particulary back, and have started stretching religiously, but still ache a ton. My sense of smell is just recently totally messed up - smells other ppl love i am grossed out by!! 2 weeks ago i started excercising daily and eating NO sweets and no junk, and my acne is not so greasy but just a steady bumpy surface to my facial skin. I have been on Advair for almost 2 months. The first month I was on lowest dose and the second month on 500/50. I am prone to severe coughing mainly as a part of a cold or flu. I do cough ALOT with extreme emotions, when I get overheated and when I lie down. I went to the doctor and she stongly suspected Asthma. Even though I do smoke, my history of coughing as a child and my severe GERD is what made her lean towards Asthma. While in the process of getting referrals, x-rays, bloodwork she put me on Advair. With constant follows-ups,(every 2 wks) nothing was working and to make things worse I came down with some kind of flu. On the smallest dose of Advair the only thing that happened was a dry throat. After my flu was almost gone she increased my Advair.Amost immediatly I got the worst sore throat! My throat was on fire,my tastebuds on the back of my toungue were HUGE. My throat was so dry, I thought I was gonna choke on my own tongue. Then, within a day after that I was so hoarse I could hardly talk and the area where my voice box is, hurt and I was about to cough up a lung. At the same time I had a few small white dot's in the back of my mouth.....by the uvula. So I went back to my doctor. She tested me for strep and yeast both were negative! I left the office more puzzled and fustrated than ever. I continued for several days and then it came to me...."Could my asthma medicine be causing my problem?" The very next morning I quit all asthma medicine. It wasn't working anyway! Within 24 hrs I was 75% better! My voice box was still sore and my voice wasn't back all the way but loads better. By day three my voice was about 90% back and I could actually talk on the phone and yell at my five kids! LOLOL I think in my case Advair is not the answer and caused way more problems. I am do to visit the doc soon to see where I go from here. Has anyone had the same experience?

I have been on Advair 100/50 for over 2-1/2 years and it's the best thing I've ever taken. It increased my lung capacity 33.5% and I do not wake up at night with asthma attacks. I don't have to depend on my Albuterol for rescue all the time either. I took Azmacourt 4 times a day prior and constantly had shortness of breath and asthma issues. I've been very fortunate on Advair! I have not had insomnia, difficulty sleeping, no musle weakness, no heartburn, and no rashes. I have had slight weight gain, and managed to get it off. I have constant allergies and allergic rhinitis so I do get occasional headaches. I can actually take a deep breath and not cough my head off. I can actually run and workout now! I do get dry mouth but that's easy enough to deal overcome. I may be an exception but it's a blessing for me! I take Allegra too and it is the best thing I've taken too. Seldane is better but they took it off the market. So I guess it works for some! Thanks.

How many of you have a strange feeling every time you swallow? And if so, do you think it could be because of a fungal growth that is not visible in the throat but growth in the stomach and behind the throat? This has caused thyroid problems, joint pain, muscle pain, hormone problems, body temperature problems, etc. Yet Doctors and allergists can not find a problem. IT IS A FUNGAL PROBLEM. THIS MEDICATION SHOULD NOT HAVE EVER BEEN APPROVED. It seem that even after taking an anti-fungal med., this still may not correct the problem. It destroyed my system so bad that malnutrition set in. No matter what I eat, it's not helping. I can't tolerate dairy, it gives me a rash. I don't have much acids in my stomach so food don't break down as well (time for food to ferment and destroy)
If anyone know someone who was either prescribed this drug or is thinking about taking this drug and you feel the same as I do, PLEASE DO NOT LET THEM TAKE IT. My father was just prescribed this so called miracle drug and I WILL DO EVERYTHING I CAN TO MAKE SURE HE DOES NOT TAKE IT.

My daughter has been on advair for two years. Her asthma is under wonderful control. However, she has had a rash that itches constantly. It started on her face and has spread to her whole body. Has anyone else had this problem?

I recently posted severe bloating in my stomach which I was very worried it was something else, but suspected Advair. Well I received all of the results back from blood tests and my pelvic ultrasound and they were all fine. I have discontinued using Advair and my stomach has gone down A LOT, it is nice and flat again although (of course) I am having trouble breathing again. My face is clearing up too, it gave me horrible rashes and breakouts and the dark circles under my eyes are gone too.
I did research on some natural alternatives to help asthma and some simple changes in diet and supplements can help as well as breathing exercises and yoga. I am going to try that for now and keep my albuterol handy for emergencies. I have had it with traditional medicine and inconsiderate doctors who are just too busy to really care about the root of the problem, they just give you a quick fix that can hurt you long term. this medicine has actually made my asthma WORSE since I stopped taking it.
A book I recommend is "Reversing Asthma" by Richard N. Firshein, D.O. he is an osteopathic doctor.
